Borna Sosa and Sheraldo Becker were winging it once again this season, delivering cross after cross, but who else was providing plenty of service from out wide? bundesliga.com ranks the top five crossers in 2022/23…

1) Borna Sosa (VfB Stuttgart, 123 crosses)

Sosa’s crossing quality is no secret, and the Croatian went into triple figures for deliveries in 2022/23, even though he made just 25 appearances (22 starts). With so many crosses – and an excellent delivery at that – it is no surprise that he set up the most goals for Stuttgart, with seven assists, four of which a direct result of his pinpoint balls from out wide

2) Sheraldo Becker (Union Berlin, 119 crosses)

Becker’s blistering pace helped him into the pockets, and his crosses did the rest. With seven assists, he set up more goals for UEFA Champions League qualifiers Union than any other player, while his 11 goals made him the capital club’s top scorer. Four of his crosses from open play led to a goal, while he was one of only two players to send the ball into the danger area over 100 times.

3) Angelino (Hoffenheim, 95 crosses)

By far Hoffenheim’s top goal provider with nine assists, Angelino’s crosses were also a frequent source of danger. The Spaniard - loaned to TSG from Bundesliga rivals RB Leipzig - set up 46 shots on goal for his teammates, with three of his crosses directly leading to a goal.

4) Marius Bülter (Schalke, 84 crosses)

Schalke’s top scorer with 11 goals, Bülter was also a threat in creating opportunities for the relegated Royal Blues. If only he could have cloned himself to get onto the end of some of his 84 crosses, it may well have been a different story for the Gelsenkirchen club, but in the end, only one of his crosses was converted.

5) Christian Günter (Freiburg, 83 crosses)

Günter’s 83 crosses and inch-perfect passes resulted in a 63 shots on goal this season - a league-high proportion. Three of the Freiburg captain’s four assists came from out wide, as he swung Christian Streich’s men to within a whisker of a place in the Champions League.
