TOPPS Erling Haaland card sold for record sum
A limited edition Erling Haaland TOPPS collectible has set a new record for a footballer card after selling for $124,230 and proving the red-hot Borussia Dortmund striker can even break new ground off the pitch.
The 20-year-old's prolific goals record since his January 2020 arrival from Red Bull Salzburg means Haaland has smashed record after record, and the Norway international's TOPPS card - part of the Bundesliga Chrome Collection - has now been snapped up for a premium fee.
It is the number 1 Orange Refractor card from his maiden season in Germany - one of just 25 made - and also bears the signature of the Dortmund forward. Other limited edition cards are available with 50 Gold Refractor cards and a unique SuperFractor card worldwide per player.
The card is also so valuable as this is the first time Haaland has been part of TOPPS' Bundesliga Chrome Collection, a series of cards which has proven highly popular in the USA.

Collectors prize the first cards of players highly in the hope they will develop into global football superstars like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, therefore making the card still more valuable.
Such limited edition cards are hard to come by given packs include a random selection of player cards. It is possible a fan gets a SuperFractor card, and is not even aware of their good fortune. It is even possible that - given there is only one of its kind on the planet - it never even gets bought.
The Haaland no. 1 Orange Refractor card is worth still more as it is in mint condition. The Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) has given the card its top rating of 10, denoting a pristine collectable.
