American teenager Gio Reyna has been named among Borussia Dortmund’s senior squad for their winter training camp in Marbella, Spain.

Dortmund travel to Andalusia from 4-12 January, where Reyna will have the chance to impress Lucien Favre in both training and across friendly matches against Belgian side Standard Liege (7 January), Dutch outfit Feyenoord and domestic rivals Mainz (both 11 January).

It is the latest recognition for the 17-year-old son of former USA, Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg midfielder Claudio Reyna, who has been in fine for for Die Schwarzgelben's U19 side this season.

Reyna, who moved to the Signal Iduna Park from New York City FC’s youth academy last summer, has scored four goals and provided seven assists in 11 U19 Bundesliga appearances this term. He has also scored four another four in Europe, as well as laying on an  assist from four group games as Dortmund’s youngsters qualified for the knockout stages of the UEFA Youth League.

It is not the first time Reyna has been given a taste of first-team football at Dortmund, having featured in the club’s pre-season tour of his native US last summer. There, he provided an assist for Paco Alcacer in BVB’s 3-2 win over European champions Liverpool to announce himself as a major prospect among the ranks of the eight-time German champions.

Earlier this season, Reyna was also included in Dortmund’s 31-man squad for the UEFA Champions League and was an unused substitute as last-year's Bundesliga runners-up swept aside Fortuna Düsseldorf with a handsome 5-0 win on Matchday 14.

The US youth international is edging closer to making his senior Dortmund bow. The midfielder, who only turned 17 last month, recently captained USA U17s at the FIFA U17 World Cup in Brazil.

Dortmund are back in Bundesliga action on 18 January when they travel to Augsburg, where Reyna would be in line to make his senior competitive Dortmund debut should he feature.
