VfB Stuttgart vs. Augsburg: DFB Cup quarter-final probable teams, match stats & LIVE blog!
VfB Stuttgart host Bundesliga rivals Augsburg in the DFB Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday (kick-off: 8.45pm CET).
Latest
Stuttgart made it this far last season, before going out to eventual winners Bayer Leverkusen. Although the 2023/24 Bundesliga runners-up recently saw their UEFA Champions League campaign ended by Paris Saint-Germain, they are going strong domestically once again. Despite successive defeats to Mainz (2-0) and Borussia Mönchengladbach, Sebastian Hoeneß's side are only a point outside the top four in fifth. A handful of first-team regulars were cycled out for the home loss to Gladbach, with left-back Maximilian Mittelstädt, attacking midfielder Chris Führich and striker Deniz Undav all set to be recalled. Defender Jeff Chabot and captain Atakan Karazor should also start after serving one-match league bans, but former Augsburg striker Ermedin Demirović may have to settle for a place on the bench.
Augsburg travel to the MHP Arena riding high on the back of a five-game unbeaten start to 2025 that includes four wins. Teenager Mert Kömür epitomised the confidence levels currently flowing through the squad with a stunning late equaliser in Saturday's draw with St. Pauli as Jess Thorup's charges stretched their buffer on the relegation zone to 12 points. In fact, they're now just five points outside the top six, with 14 rounds of fixtures still to play. Kömür could be rewarded with a starting berth in Stuttgart, while Keven Schlotterbeck is expected to return in defence as Augsburg - beaten quarter-finalists in 2018/19 - bid to reach the last four of German football's domestic cup for the second time in their history.
Watch: Stuttgart beat Augsburg in the Bundesliga earlier this season
