John Iredale

Age: 24 (born 1 August 1999)
Club:
Wehen Wiesbaden
Position:
Centre-forward
Country:
Australia (four youth caps)

Key stats

Iredale battled a capsular injury at the start of 2023/24 but signed off for the calendar year with his second goal of the campaign. He also has an assist to show for his first 12 appearances of the campaign, putting him on course to at least match his seven-goal hand in Wiesbaden's promotion-winning season of 2022/23.

A former Australia youth international and Sydney FC product, Iredale was previously on the books of Paderborn, albeit without playing for the first team. The 6'1" forward also represented the Wolfsburg reserves, scoring 14 times in 21 fourth-tier games, as well as the U19s and 21s of Dutch outfit Heerenveen.

Plays a bit like: Mario Gomez

A real handful in the opposition penalty area and a confident finisher, Iredale is a similar type of central striker to Mario Gomez, who hit over 300 goals for club and country before retiring in June 2020 with three Bundesliga titles to his name.

Did you know?

Iredale has been called up by Australia head coach Graham Arnold before. He took part in a 2018 training camp in Turkey, whilst still on the books of Heerenveen, but is yet to make a senior international matchday squad.

What they're saying

"John Iredale is someone I had in camp, right at the very start of my reign. He's one that I've admired for a long time because he's got that strength and that skill, and he's starting to do well in Bundesliga 2." - Arnold on Iredale's nomination for the 2023 Asian Cup

"John has unbelievable power. He'd already smashed the crossbar when he powered through to score the equaliser." - Wehen head coach Markus Kauczinski on Iredale's equaliser against St. Pauli on Matchday 17 of 2023/24
