Full-time: Real Madrid 4-1 RB Leipzig

Die Roten Bullen suffer a second away defeat in this season's instalment of the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Los Blancos. The hosts came out of the dressing room in the second half with renewed vigour, quickly doubling their lead within seven minutes of the restart. Yan Diomande then came on as a substitute, with his introduction precipitating a flurry of late goals as the Ivorian managed a goal and an assist. Substitute Tidiam Gomis may have fired home a consolation goal for Martín Demichelis' men, but it was not enough to instigate a meaningful comeback.
Full-time
90'

Stoppage time

After two more Real changes, which saw Endrick and Carlos Espí enter the fray, the fourth official has indicated a minimum of three additional minutes here.
88'

Substitution

Diomande screamer makes it four!

The goals are flying in late on here, and now it's Diomande's turn to get in on the act against his former club. Díaz delivers a superb cross from the right side of the box over towards the left, where the Ivorian meets it perfectly on the volley. From around 16 yards out, the ball rockets into the top‑left corner, leaving Vandevoort with no chance.

Gomis hauls one back for Leipzig!

Madrid's three-goal advantage did not last long. Baumgartner turns on the turbo in the middle of the park, beating an out-of-position Huijsen before threading a pass into the box for Gomis to chase. The young forward latches onto it, and drills his finish hard and low into the bottom left corner.

Mbappé makes it three!

That's 3-0 and surely the three points for Real Madrid here. A switch of play from right to left finds Diomande inside the box, who tees up Mbappé on the edge of the area. The Frenchman simply picks his head up, and curls his finish into the far corner to further extend his side's advantage.

82'

Off his line

Huijsen looks to release Díaz with a long ball over the top, but Vandevoordt races out of his box to head it out into touch.
79'

Further alterations

After being included in a matchday squad for the first time in four months, Baumgartner returns to the field for Leipzig for the closing stages here, replacing Nkunku. Goalscorer Güler also leaves the pitch for Madrid, to be replaced by Díaz.
75'

Finkgräfe has a go

After only just coming on, the left-back assumes free-kick duties from Raum. His initial delivery doesn't beat the first man, but the ball falls straight back to him and he elects to shoot, driving a powerful shot goalwards that stings the palms of Courtois.
73'

Another double swap

Martín Demichelis makes two like-for-like swaps with the introductions of Gomis and Finkgräfe for Nusa and Raum.
72'

First action

Diomande immediately looks to go at his former side. The 19-year-old fashions space for a cross on the left and drills one in, but sees it deflected behind for a corner.

Madrid changes

José Mourinho now makes changes of his own, introducing Cucurella and former Leipzig star Diomande for Carreras and Vinícius.
70'

Reitz's name taken

The substitute goes into the book for a late tackle on Camavinga.
68'

First booking

Carreras picks up the first yellow card of the evening for a late challenge on Andrija Maksimović.
67'

Camavinga from distance

The French midfielder finds himself unpressurised around 35 yards from goal and elects to go it alone. His effort is on target, but straight at Vandevoordt.
64'

First changes

Martín Demichelis makes his first substitutions of the evening, introducing Reitz and Maksimović for El Aynaoui and Gruda.
61'

Short corner routine

Güler tees up Silva on the left, who whips a first-time cross in towards Rüdiger. The German central defender throws himself at the ball to try and make contact with it at the edge of the six-yard box, but he cannot quite get a touch on it and Lukeba manages to clear.
57'

Raum delivers

Leipzig's captain curls a teasing delivery into the Madrid box from a right-sided free-kick. Rômulo gets up and glances a header goalwards, but his effort is always rising.
55'

Side netting

Real have their tails up here. Bellingham, Vinícius, and Mbappé combine well high up on the left flank for the hosts before the latter takes aim towards the near post. The Frenchman can only find the near post with his attempt, though.

Güler doubles Real's lead!

After upping the tempo since the restart, Real have their reward! High up on the left, Bellingham floats a cross from the byline towards Mbappé at the far post. The Frenchman rises highest, heading back across goal where Güler steals in front of his marker to poke it home for close range. 2-0 to Madrid!
52'

Safe hands

Once again, Valverde makes an overlapping run on the right and receives the ball from Güler. His first-time cross is too flat, however, and makes for a comfortable catch for Vandevoordt.
48'

Early test

The hosts have began the second half brightly. Güler slips Valverde into the Leipzig box, with the latter smashing an effort back across goal. Vandevoordt is on hand to make the save, however, diving to his right and tipping the ball round the post.
46'

Back under way!

Madrid get the ball back rolling for the second half here. At the break, neither manager has elected to make any substitutions, so both teams remain unchanged.
Kick-off!

Half-time: Real Madrid 1-0 RB Leipzig

At the interval, it's Martín Demichelis' side who trail following Bernardo Silva's late opener. Leipzig had done excellently to nullify Madrid's threat for large parts of the first half, and even had big chances of their own through Rômulo and Nkunku. Nevertheless, there is work to be done in the second half for the German outfit if they're to take anything from this one.
Half-time

Silva fires Real in front!

Valverde overlaps once more down the right flank. He is found by Mbappé before picking out Güler with a low cross into the box, who fires straight at Vandevoordt. However, the Belgian goalkeeper cannot hold his powerful, low effort, and the ball gets caught underneath his feet, allowing Silva to pounce on the rebound and smash home into an open net.

Bernardo Silva
41'

Carved open

What a chance for Nkunku! Raum plays the Frenchman clean through on goal, but Courtois makes himself big and wins out in the one-on-one against the Leipzig forward. That was the best chance either side have had to breaking the deadlock so far here.
39'

Off target

Valverde bursts forward up from defence and reaches the Leipzig box with the ball at his feet. He tees up Bellingham to his left, who aims an effort towards the top right corner, but fires it just high and wide of the mark.

In from Raum

Valverde fouls Nusa around midway inside the Real half. Raum steps up to deliver the free-kick, but his cross is headed clear by a Madrid defender.

Nusa lets fly

Leipzig's No.7 glides past Güler and Valverde on the left before unleashing a shot from inside the Madrid penalty area. It's powerfully struck, but hits Rüdiger square in the chest. Leipzig recover the ball, however, and this time Nusa delivers a cross in towards Rômulo, whose header poses no real threat for Courtois.
30'

Chances opening up

Now it's Real's turn. Vinícius Júnior powers up the left flank before cutting in and letting fly, forcing Vandevoordt to produce a save of equal quality to that of his countryman between the Madrid sticks.
29'

Rômulo forces the save

Leipzig's biggest chance of the game so far! After a sweeping counter-attack, the ball falls for Rômulo, who strikes it on the turn, firing a half-volley towards the bottom right corner, which Courtois does well to tip round the post and behind for a corner.
26'

Offside

Mbappé slips Bernardo Silva in behind the Leipzig backline and into the box, but Lukeba does well to recover and wins possession back before the Real man can take a shot. Had the Portuguese midfielder been able to produce something, however, it wouldn't have counted as the assistant referee had their flag raised.
23'

Superb challenge

Valverde plays Bernardo Silva to the byline on the right, but El Aynaoui rushes back to make a perfectly-timed sliding tackle and snuffs out the danger.

End to end

Baku overlaps on the right flank and manages to squeeze a shot away towards Courtois' near post, which the Belgian custodian deals with comfortably. Real counterattack immediately, with Bellingham driving his side up the pitch before freeing Mbappé to his right, whose subsequent low effort back across goal flies wide of the left post.
18'

Güler again

This time, Mbappé tries to wriggle through the centre of the Leipzig defence. The Frenchman is dispossessed, but Güler recovers the loose ball and drives an inviting cross in front of the face of Vandevoordt's goal. However, the Real No.15's cross finds no takers in the middle.
16'

Big chance

Mbappé sends Güler to the byline down the right flank. From there, the Turkish international picks out Bernardo Silva on the edge of the six-yard box, who tries to steer the ball goalwards with a backheel, but the Portuguese midfielder does not get the contact on it that he would have wanted and Leipzig clear.

Superb skill

Nusa brings the ball down quite brilliantly following a switch of play from Gruda. He immediately looks to play forward, getting the better of Valverde down the left before attempting to cut the ball back to Seiwald from the byline. However, a mix-up leads the ball to go out of play and behind for a goal-kick.

Light duties

Inside the opening 10 minutes here, neither goalkeeper has been called into action to make a save. Most of the play has taken place between both boxes so far.
6'

In behind

Raum finds Rômulo with an inch-perfect first-time ball over the top. The Brazilian bears down on goal but, before he can get a shot away, Rüdiger manages to recover and shepherd the Leipzig forward off the ball.
5'

No takers

Nkunku combines high up on the right flank with Rômulo before whipping a cross in behind the Madrid backline and into the box. There, he cannot find a teammate, though Raum is on hand to retrieve the loose ball.
3'

Positive start

Leipzig have looked energetic since getting us under way here, and have looked to press the record winners of this competition high up the pitch in the early phases.
1'

And we're off!

Leipzig get the ball rolling here in the Spanish capital.
Kick-off!

Kick-off fast approaching...

The familiar UEFA Champions League anthem rings out around the Bernabéu.

Warm-ups in full flow

Both sets of players are going through their paces with less than half an hour left until kick-off.

Back in the squad

After spending the last four months on the sidelines through injury, Christoph Baumgartner (r.) is named on the bench once again this evening for Leipzig.

More on that Madrid side

José Mourinho also makes wholesale changes to his Real starting XI which he fielded for the weekend's 4-1 victory over Sevilla. Rüdiger, Carreras, Camavinga, Bernardo Silva (l.) and Vinícius all come back into the team, displacing Cucurella, Tchouaméni, Endrick, as well as former Leipzig stars Konaté and Diomande (r.), all of whom start the game as substitutes.

More on that Leipzig side

Compared to the 6-1 defeat away to Bayern Munich at the weekend, Martín Demichelis makes three changes to his starting line-up, introducing Baku, Seiwald, and Rômulo (pictured) for Klostermann, Banzuzi and Reitz. The trio that started against Bayern are all on the bench this evening.

Leipzig subs

Nyland, Koné, Estève, Banzuzi, Bakayoko, Baumgartner, Klostermann, Reitz, Gomis, Maksimović, Finkgräfe, Henrichs

Real Madrid subs

Lunin, Militão, Endrick, Alexander-Arnold, Tchouaméni, Konaté, Cucurella, Espí, Díaz, Dumfries, Diomande, Pitarch

Konaté talks reunion

"It's a special match for me because I'll be playing against my old club," said Ibrahima Konaté, who made 95 competitive appearances for Leipzig, before joining Liverpool in July 2021 and Real this past summer. "I'm happy to see my old team-mates."

Martín Demichelis on facing Real

"Facing the best institutions, coaches, and players is one of the most beautiful things football offers. Tomorrow, we have the opportunity, in this great venue that is the Bernabéu, to play against a phenomenal team with outstanding individuals. That will require the utmost concentration to put on a great performance."

José Mourinho on facing Leipzig

"Leipzig? A great team. They beat PSV last week. We've won three matches in a short period, and we played very well in the last one. It was a very complete performance, and we need to keep going."

David Raum on facing Real

"It's difficult to find weaknesses in Real Madrid's game. They're not just world-class going forward, they're also world-class defensively. The only way to win here is as a team. We all need to pull together."

Demichelis revenge?

Leipzig coach Martín Demichelis was knocked out three times from the Champions League by Real Madrid as a player, twice for Bayern Munich, but won his only encounter against them as a coach so far, a 2-1 win for Mallorca in Spain's La Liga last season.

Nice to see you, Yan!

Real Madrid's summer signing from RB Leipzig, Yan Diomande, has one goal and one assist in his first eight appearances for Los Blancos. As well as Rüdiger, Jude Bellingham is a familiar figure to Bundesliga followers after his superb breakthrough spell at Borussia Dortmund between 2020 and 2023.

Real's remarkable trip to Rome

Real Madrid made it two wins out of two in this season's Champions League in dramatic style, with three goals in the last seven minutes securing a 4-3 comeback win at Roma. Ex-Germany international defender Antonio Rüdiger, formerly of VfB Stuttgart, scored the decisive seventh goal.

Leipzig land a win

Having begun their return to the Champions League with a 4-1 loss at Como, Leipzig took a key 1-0 win at home to PSV Eindhoven thanks to Brajan Gruda's goal last week.
