Full-time: Karslruhe 1-1 Preußen Münster

After a fast-paced final phase, Münster secured a 1-1 draw against KSC through Frenkert's stoppage-time goal. Karlsruhe had taken the lead through Zivzivadze in the first half and increasingly controlled the game in the second, but Preußen showed fighting spirit and equalised in stoppage time.

The equaliser!

Preußen manage to push forward once more, and see a shot parried for a corner. Lorenz delivers a sharp cross into the box, and the ball ricochets around the penalty area. A Karlsruher player deflects the ball towards goal and Weiß makes a great save, then Frenkert tries a first-time shot, but it's blocked. On the rebound, he hammers the ball with his right foot into the roof of the net. After a two-minute VAR check for a potential foul in the penalty area, the goal stands.

A goal for first place

If KSC scores once more, they would virtually take over the top spot in the table. Karlsruhe were last in first place after the second matchday of the 2021/22 season. They haven't been in this position so late in a season since 2006/07, when KSC was promoted to the Bundesliga as Bundesliga 2 winners.
84'

Quick!

Karlsruhe play it well going forward, but the through-ball towards the penalty area is slightly over-hit. Weiß reacts strongly, comes out of his box and clears the situation. That was close!
81'

Preußen fading

Münster can no longer get out of their own half, as KSC are constantly in possession and repeatedly forcing set-pieces, even though these are generally not bringing much dangerous.
78'

Good free-kick position

Wanitzek delivers a dangerous ball from the right corner of the penalty area to right in front of the Preußen goal. Beifus gets his head to it, but puts it about two metres wide of the target.
76'

The goalscorer departs

Zivzivadze leaves the pitch to applause, with Hunziker replacing him on the left side of attack.
75'

Another booking

Frenkert also receives a yellow card from Kampka after a tactical foul.
72'

Schleusener!

A corner from the left is played short by Wanitzek to Herold, who whips the ball into the box after a one-two with the Karlsruhe captain. Schleusener is positioned at the far post and strikes with his right foot. The ball hits the side netting. Best chance of the second half!
70'

Thwarted

After a long spell, Karlsruhe finally get forward again. Conté tries to latch onto a pass, but Friðjónsson clatters into him. The resulting free-kick poses no real danger.
67'

Double substitution

Preußen also bring on two new players in attack. Can the visitors strike back?
65'

Evenly matched

The match is completely balanced. The difference: Karlsruhe doesn't have to push.

Karlsruhe ring the changes

KSC brings on fresh attacking players. Perhaps this will inject some new energy into the match.
60'

Yellow card

Ter Horst had already been given a verbal warning by the referee, and after he holds Wanitzek back, he is shown a yellow card.
59'

Preußen

Now the visitors manage to combine well going forward. The ball reaches Hendrix, who takes a shot from outside the penalty area - but it flies well over. In any case, referee Kampka had blown for a foul just beforehand.
57'

Little movement

Typical for the early stages of the second half: Karlsruhe's keeper Weiß holds the ball for a few seconds before passing it to a teammate. After a few passes, the ball goes out of play.
54'

Karlsruhe

KSC have established themselves in the opposition half. After a throw-in on the left side, a cross rolls into the goal area - goal kick for Preußen.
52'

Münster edging possession

The picture from the first half has essentially changed very little: the visitors have the ball, but cannot penetrate into dangerous areas. As a result, chances remain scarce on both sides.
50'

Corner for Preußen

This time Hendrix tries a rather low cross from the left side. The ball ricochets through the penalty area but can't find a taker. There was more potential in that one!
48'

Feeling each other out

Possession is constantly changing now, with both teams conceding the ball cheaply.
46'

Visitors straight away

Münster look to play forward quickly, but the chip to Grodowski is too long.
46'

We're back underway!

Preußen kick off the second half, with no changes from either coach.

Half-time: Karlsruhe 1-0 Preußen Münster

Karlsruher SC took the lead with some clinical finishing, Zivzivadze slotting a precise shot in at the near post. Preußen bravely fought back and even had more shots on target (3-1), but KSC defended well and remained stable. Both teams sought opportunities in a physical match, but only KSC managed to find a gap.
45'

Good corner

From the right, Hendrix whips in a dangerous corner into the six-yard box - but Schenk is on hand to pluck the ball out of the air.
42'

Münster keep pushing

Despite having fallen behind, Münster continue to push boldly forward, but can't reach the danger zone. Now KSC have the ball and are calming the game down.
41'

Clinical KSC

Karlsruhe's first shot on target found the back of the net!
37'

Karlsruhe take the lead!

KSC attack down the right and Burnić strongly holds the ball up well in the penalty area before playing it back out. This yields a cross from the right that initially goes past everyone, but it finds Wanitzek on the left side of the box and he passes it forward to Zivzivadze. The Georgian fires a powerful left-footed shot in at the near post - 1-0 to the home side!

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals> xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals> goals).
After a quarter of an hour, the visitors have the better xG value. They are also ahead in terms of shots, leading by four to one.

There's also one change for Münster - Joel Grodowski comes in for Andras Nemeth at centre-forward.

First start of the season for Pfeiffer

There is one change to the KSC starting line-up from the 2-1 win away at Hannover, as Luca Pfeiffer replaces Fabian Schleusener. After six appearances as a substitute, Pfeiffer is in the starting eleven for the first time this season in the second tier.

Christian Eichner on Münster

"Our team has developed to the point where we like to have the ball. We want to be ready to strike in every phase of the match. It would be a very, very valuable three points for us."

Sascha Hildmann on Karlsruhe

"Karlsruhe will certainly play offensively, they have top players in the league with Zivzivadze and Schleusener. We have made defensive progress in recent matches and we will need this stability."

Preußen successful only once

Münster's only victory against KSC dates back to 20 April 2013: the Eagles won 2-1 at home in the 3rd division, .

A first in Bundesliga 2

This is the first time these two clubs have faced each other in the second division. Their last encounters were in the 3. Liga in 2018/19, where KSC won both matches convincingly (5-0 at home, 4-1 away).

Two clubs rich in tradition

Karlsruhe and Münster were founding members of the Bundesliga in 1963. Back then, KSC won 4-2 at home in the first Bundesliga game between the sides. The away match ended in a 0-0 draw.
