Conclusion

Kaiserslautern has every reason to celebrate. In a fiery Southwest derby, the Red Devils deservedly won 3-1 and temporarily move up to 2nd place in the table. Karlsruhe offered too little for long periods, with Wanitzek's free-kick goal in the 88th minute coming too late.

Chance for Mause

Jannik Mause starts for only the second time this season in the Bundesliga 2. Previously, the 26-year-old striker had only been in the starting eleven on matchday 3 during the 1-0 victory in Münster.

Ritter is back

Captain Marlon Ritter is in the starting lineup for the first time since matchday 8 in the 2. Bundesliga. Since then, he has only featured three times as a substitute (he missed two matches due to adductor problems).

One change for Karlsruhe

Coach Christian Eichner makes one change to his starting lineup compared to the last match (eliminated in the DFB-Pokal at home against FC Augsburg on penalties): Bambase Conte plays for Dzenis Burnic (suspended due to yellow cards).

Three changes for Kaiserslautern

Manager Markus Anfang makes three changes to his starting lineup compared to the last match (3-0 victory in 2. Bundesliga against Schalke): Touré, Ritter and Mause come in for Kaloc (suspended due to yellow cards), Ache (calf injury) and Hanslik (ill).

This is how Karlsruhe lines up

Weiß - Jung, Franke, Beifus, Herold - Jensen, Rapp, Wanitzek (c) - Conté - Zivzivadze, Schleusener

The starting eleven for Kaiserslautern

Krahl - Elvedi, Sirch, Touré - Ronstadt, Aremu, Tomiak, Ritter (c), Kleinhansl - Mause, Yokota

What Christian Eichner says

"A derby always comes at the right time! I'm looking forward to a fantastic atmosphere that awaits us, and I want to finish together with my team what we didn't manage to accomplish on Wednesday."

Markus Anfang's thoughts

"We have repeatedly shown recently that we can keep clean sheets. We are on the right track there. And we want to continue that. But Karlsruhe have a lot of quality, and we need to stand up to that and defend well against it."

Karlsruhe eliminated after cup battle

After a true cup thriller, KSC were knocked out of the DFB Cup against Augsburg. Karlsruhe took a 2-1 lead in stoppage time, but conceded an equaliser in the 120+3 minute. They went on to lose 5-4 in the penalty shootout.

Former Red Devil

Karlsruhe substitute goalkeeper Robin Himmelmann transferred from FCK in the summer of 2024. He made three appearances for Lautern in the Bundesliga 2.

Lautern's historic success

On 25 May 1996, Kaiserslautern and Karlsruhe faced each other in the DFB Cup final. Martin Wagner scored the golden goal, and after Andreas Brehme received a second yellow card, a ten-man Red Devils side held on to secure the victory, with current managing director Thomas Hengen also playing the full 90 minutes. After the cup win, Hengen transferred to KSC making 60 Bundesliga appearances and scoring one goal.

Strong recent form for KSC

Karlsruhe have taken seven points from a possible nine in their last three encounters with Lautern.

Away curse broken

In the last encounter on 24 February 2024, KSC won 4-0 away. It was the first away victory for the Baden side against Kaiserslautern in over 31 years, and also Karlsruhe's biggest ever away win at FCK.

High-class history

42 of the 65 competitive matches between Kaiserslautern and Karlsruhe have taken place in the Bundesliga. However, the last shared top-flight season between these two founding members of the Bundesliga was quite some time ago in 1996/97.
