Full-time: Hamburg 2-2 Darmstadt
Despite numerous gilt-edged chances in the closing stages, it remains 2-2. A fair result from a peculiar match that saw constant back-and-forth action and a series of goals that came seemingly out of nowhere.

Selke misses a sitter!
It's all happening. The recently substituted Stange dribbles past Darmstadt's defence, and his lay-off towards the six-yard box is perfect, but Selke fails to put the ball over the line. Unbelievable.

Heuer Fernandes prevents Darmstadt's lucky punch
Heuer Fernandes saves Hamburg's bacon. First, he makes an outstanding save from Nürnberger's free kick, but then he also proves vigilant when Vilhelmsson tries to pounce on the rebound.
88'
Vilhelmsson!
Less than two minutes after Selke's chance, Vilhelmsson has a great opportunity at the other end. But Heuer-Fernandes is alert, getting to the ball a step quicker than the striker.
86'
Selke!
And suddenly Hamburg are back in it. Of course, Dompé is involved. Selke's header is powerful, but Schuhen reacts brilliantly and parries the ball that would have found the left corner.
85'
Darmstadt want more
The visitors have established themselves in the attacking third once again, but Nürnberger's free-kick cross from the left sails through the penalty area without anyone getting a touch.
On course for a share of the points?

Yellow card for Poręba
Tactical foul on Marseiler, who had initiated a counter-attack for the away side.
78'
Next double substitution
The aforementioned corner comes to nothing, but shortly afterwards there's a substitution. Marseiler and Thiede come on as new players for the Lilies.
77'
Heuer-Fernandes hands out early Christmas presents
Heuer Fernandes hasn't always looked secure today. From a miscued clearance, the ball goes out of play; the Hamburg keeper essentially gifted the visitors a corner.
76'
Crossbar! Elfadli misses by centimetres
The match swings back in Hamburg's favour. Muheim's cross is outstanding, and Elfadli nods the ball from the penalty spot onto the crossbar.
74'
Baldé ignites the turbo
Impressive move by Baldé, who sprints down the entire right flank. But in the end, the cross to Selke is just a touch too high.
73'
Pherai immediately in the centre
Pherai makes his mark with a solo run, but the visitors' last line of defence stands firm. No way through for the substitute.
72'
Bold substitutions on both sides
Both managers bring on fresh personnel for their attacking lines, clearly not content with a point here.
71'
Vukotić!
Förster delivers a free-kick from the right half-space into the penalty area. Vukotić uses his aerial prowess to fire off a header, but it goes about a metre over the bar. Good chance for the visitors!
70'
Exciting final phase ahead
What possible final twists does this unpredictable match have in store? Currently, Darmstadt are in the ascendancy, with Hamburg looking slightly rattled. But in this match, that doesn't necessarily mean anything...
67'
True ball-winner
Superb defensive action from Elfadli, who ends Förster's solo run just outside the penalty area with a fair tackle.
65'
Double substitution for HSV
Polzin reacts to the equaliser and brings on fresh attacking personnel in Selke and Baldé.
64'
Still a crazy game
It remains a match of twists and turns. HSV were closer to scoring a third goal, but the visitors proved that they too can strike with clinical precision.
63'
Goooal! Corredor finally gets his goal!
Just before the break, the winger narrowly missed, but now he finds the net to make it 2-2. The visitors build up play on the left. López crosses, the goalscorer controls the ball brilliantly with his chest and then finishes coolly into the right corner.
61'
Richter!
Almost another spectacular goal for the home side. This time Richter tries from distance, but his curling effort flies just wide of the top-left corner.
Will this dream goal make the difference in the end?

Hosts defend strongly
Elfadli clears a cross from Lidberg for a corner. Darmstadt keep pressing afterwards, but can't get a shot off.
54'
Double chance for Hamburg
The home side work towards a third goal. After a solo run, Mikelbrencis shoots from about 16 metres out. Schuhen dives and saves the shot aimed at the right side of the goal. The ball then comes to Richter, whose first-time effort loops over the crossbar.
51'
Dompé!
Hamburg's best player tries his luck. After a one-two with Karabec, he takes aim from the right half-space. The swerving shot from about 20 metres goes just over the cross-bar.
50'
Darmstadt still active
Darmstadt are in control at the start of the second half. After the first corner of the term, Müller tries a shot from outside the box, but his attempt goes well over the bar.
47'
Can Hamburg maintain their efficiency in the second half?
How will the match continue after a wild first half? Can HSV remain as efficient? Two of their three shots on target found the back of the net, while Darmstadt squandered several good opportunities.

Back under way
The second has begun with no changes for either side.

Dompé the dynamo
The provider of the assist for the 1-0 impresses, just as he did last week against KSC, with an outstanding performance. Although the visitors are putting pressure on the winger, he's hard to containable, popping up all over the pitch.

Wondergoal! Karabec!
What a cracker! HSV strike back - and how! Elfadli takes a quick free-kick, the square pass finding Karabec, who measures up from about 23 metres and curls it perfectly into the top left corner. Wow!

Lively game at the Volkspark
While the match isn't exactly a festival of chances, neither team is wasting much time with midfield skirmishes. The current score is a fair reflection, and the match is an entertaining affair!
39'
It's back and forth
Hamburg respond. Jatta presses strongly, but his pass into space doesn't work out. Instead, the counter-attack runs through Lidberg, Darmstadt's strongest player, and in the end, Schonlau blocks Corredor's shot with his chest.
36'
Darmstadt rewarded for their efforts
The equaliser from the visitors, who continue to dominate possession, is definitely not undeserved. Also because the counter-pressing from Kohfeldt's team continues to work very well.

33'
Goooal! The equaliser!
Förster gets to take the set-piece again, it's played short once more, and in the end Corredor delivers a perfect cross from the left into the penalty area. There, the two-metre-tall Vukotić rises highest and nods it perfectly into the right corner.
31'
Förster "too quick"
Curious first booking of the match. Förster receives a yellow card for taking the free kick too quickly.
29'
The home side keeps counter-attacking
Hamburg's offensive transition play is excellent. Karabec finds the advanced Mikelbrencis on the right flank. In the end, no danger comes from it, but still, another good move.
27'
Long balls to the striking duo a viable tactic?
Vukotić finds Lidberg with a high ball from his own half. The strong chest control lands at Hornby's feet, but once again the home side's defence stands firm.
25'
HSV alert
The visitors are finding it increasingly difficult to get into dangerous areas. Nürnberger has plenty of space on the left, but the pass into the penalty area is intercepted by Hadžikadunić. Well spotted.
22'
Muheim from distance
It's becoming dangerous again. Dompé applies pressure, but the visitors just manage to clear for a corner. Muheim gets the second ball from the corner, but his long-range shot goes well over the bar.

How will SVD react to the setback?
The Lilies don't seem to be thrown off their game plan. They continue to boss possession, and when HSV have the ball, they press aggressively. However, this approach is affording the home side space, which they have already exploited once.
12'
Deadlock breaker Königsdörffer
The striker's seventh goal of the season marks the fifth time he has scored to make it 1-0. Impressive statistics.
11'
First chance converted
Under Polzin, Hamburg continue where they left off against KSC. The Hanseatic side are ice-cold in front of goal.
10'
Goooal! Hamburg take the lead!!
Darmstadt lose the ball up front, and things move very quickly. Jean-Luc Dompé drives the ball down the left, threading it through perfectly. Königsdörffer does brilliantly, controlling the ball well before smashing it into the left corner.
8'
Lidberg's thunderbolt hits the post!
A strong action from the striker, who breaks through on the right and smashes the ball against the left-hand post.
6'
Nürnberger puts pressure on Heuer-Fernandes
Nürnberger delivers a corner from the right directly towards Heuer-Fernandes, who just manages to clear the ball for another corner. This one is also not without danger, but in the end, the visitors are penalised for an offensive foul.
4'
Strong solo run, weak pass
Jatta does well here. He beats several Darmstadt players, but the through-ball to Königsdörffer lacks precision.
2'
Beautiful volley from Hornby
First attempt from the visitors. Hornby receives a long ball and takes it perfectly with a first-time volley in the left corner of the penalty area. But it doesn't trouble Heuer Fernandes, who secures the ball confidently.

Polzin with no notes after win over Karlsruhe
Hamburg's coach Polzin makes no changes to his starting line-up following the 3-1 away victory against Karlsruhe.
Darmstadt starting XI
Schuhen - López, Riedel, Vukotić, Nürnberger - Kleefisch, Müller - Förster, Corredor - Hornby, Lidberg
Hamburg starting XI
Heuer Fernandes - Mikelbrencis, Hadžikadunić, Schonlau, Muheim - Elfadli - Karabec, Richter - Jatta, Königsdörffer, Dompé
Merlin Polzin on Darmstadt
"We observed our opponents during their cup match in Bremen on Tuesday and have prepared well for all tactical scenarios. However, we want to play to our own strengths once again. The difference from the Karlsruhe match will be that this weekend the entire stadium - except for the away section - will be behind us and supporting us. I'm really looking forward to that!"
Polzin remains as manager for now
Stefan Kuntz has confirmed that former assistant coach Merlin Polzin will remain as head coach of HSV at least until the winter break. "This is a result of the good work in recent days and weeks," said the chief executive.
Florian Kohfeldt on Hamburg
"We are focusing on a very challenging second division match against a very tough opponent. We are well prepared for the game, but we are still wary of an opponent with a lot of individual quality. Overall, I'm looking forward to an exciting match."

Hamburg born and raised
Darmstadt man Fabian Nürnberger is a Hamburg native who played for HSV in his youth career.
Former Lilies goalkeeper
Before his move to HSV in 2019, Daniel Heuer Fernandes played three seasons for Darmstadt, making seven Bundesliga appearances and 62 Bundesliga 2 appearances for the Lilies.
HSV out to break duck
Darmstadt have gone unbeaten in their last seven away matches at the Volkspark (five wins, two draws). In the Bundesliga 2, the Lilies have never lost away to HSV (three wins, two draws).
The Lilies love the Volkspark
Of the 20 competitive matches against HSV (eight in the Bundesliga, ten in the Bundesliga 2 and two in the DFB Cup), Darmstadt have won five. All five of these victories were celebrated away from home.
Home comforts? Hardly
In the last 16 competitive matches between Darmstadt and HSV, the home side has never won! The last home victory in this fixture dates all the way back to 1981, when Hamburg defeated Darmstadt 6-1 in the Bundesliga (goalscorers including Felix Magath and Horst Hrubesch). They then went on to become German champions at the end of that 1981/82 season under Ernst Happel.
