Full time: Fortuna Düsseldorf 2-5 Magdeburg
Magdeburg stepped up their game significantly in the second half and blew the scoreline out to 5-2. Düsseldorf were considerably weakened by the red card and couldn't carry their strong performance from the first half through to the final whistle. Towards the end of the game, a number of supporters left the stands following reports that a car had been driven into a Christmas market in Magdeburg.

Nearly a fourth!
This time Kaars is served by Atik and chips the ball over the on-rushing Kastenmaier. The ball rolls just centimetres wide of the right post!

Magdeburg turn the game on its head!
As Texeira sends Kaars through the gap, Fortuna's offside trap fails, with Fridriksson trailing. The Dutchman finds himself one-on-one with Kastenmeier and slots it into the far corner.

Another equaliser! Atik!
The leveller comes somewhat out of nowhere. El Hankouri crosses from the half-space, and Kaars lays it off beautifully first time to Atik. The winger gets a free shot and strikes it cleanly into the left corner.

Similar picture
After the restart, the game remains unchanged. Magdeburg are hardly present in attack and are mainly passing the ball around their own ranks. Düsseldorf occasionally create chances, but nothing has been converted so far.

Hoffmann sees yellow
The defender complains too loudly and is cautioned.
59'
Free-kick in a dangerous position
As Fridriksson breaks through on the right, he is held back by Heber tugging his shirt. He falls in the area, but the foul was committed outside, so it's only a free-kick. Heber receives a yellow card and the set piece comes to nothing.
55'
Rossmann again!
The 21-year-old is keen today! After a one-two with Haag, he finds himself almost alone in front of Reimann again, this time from a bit further out... but the Magdeburg keeper is alert and saves at his near post.
54'
Big chance!
Van Brederode leaves two Magdeburg players for dead and then curls the ball just wide of the post. Reimann was well beaten.
50'
Kastenmeier uses his head!
Atik curls the ball from the left to the front of goal, where Krempicki runs in and tries to flick it over Kastenmeier. The keeper manages to get his head to it and makes another strong - if slightly unorthodox - save.

Right down to business
Fortuna carve out the first chance of the second half, with Haag firing from distance and Reimann saving at the second attempt.

Half-time: Fortuna 2-1 Magdeburg
Düsseldorf head into the break with a deserved, having converted two of their four on-target shots into goals. Magdeburg appear to lack ideas in their offensive play and will need to step it up in the second half to take any points from this match.

Rossmann grabbing the opportunity
After bagging his first goal of the season as a substitute in Darmstadt on Matchday 1, Tim Rossmann puts Fortuna in the lead for the first time with his second goal of the season. He's making excellent use of his return to the starting XI.

Game turned around!
A mistake in the build-up play proves costly. Rossmann wins the ball and plays it to Sobottka, who advances a few metres and then passes back to Rossmann. The left winger stays cool in front of Reimann and calmly slots it into the near corner. 2-1!

Keeping up the pressure
Now the home team have become the more threatening side. Once again, it's Rossmann who heads the ball after a cross from Fridriksson. Reimann gets down quickly and clears it for a corner.

No cross and no shot
Rossmann leads a counter-attack on the left and drives towards goal. From a tight angle, he can't quite decide what to do and puts the ball over the crossbar.

Immediate response!
Lightning-fast equaliser! After some slow build-up play, the action suddenly picks up pace through Oberdorf, who accelerates down the right flank and finds the incoming Jóhannesson in the middle. He nods a mid-height header into the far corner. 1-1!
11'
Magdeburg take the lead!
Kaars scores after just ten minutes! Keeper Reimann pushes up high and quickly plays the ball through to Gnaka. The midfielder lays it off for Texeira, who plays it to Kaars. The Dutch forward sticks out a boot and puts the visitors in front!

First attempt...
...and it was not without danger! Krempicki has plenty of space centrally at the edge of the penalty area and takes a shot. Kastenmeier manages to save it but drops the ball, allowing Texeira to get the rebound - but the Fortuna keeper saves that one too, continuing his good form from last week's match against Schalke.
7'
Quiet start
In terms of possession, the first few minutes belonged to the visitors - but now Düsseldorf are also increasingly keeping the ball.
4'
Through balls
For the second time already, Fortuna look for Kownacki up front - and for the second time, the pass is a bit too long and can be intercepted by the visiting defence.

The goalscorers
Last season, Magdeburg lost 2-3 in Düsseldorf on Matchday 34. Magdeburg's goalscorers on that occasion were Connor Krempicki and Bryan Teixeira, who are now getting another chance in the starting XI.
Double change
Magdeburg make two changes after the 1-1 draw against Paderborn. Connor Krempicki and Bryan Teixeira start in place of Loric and Burcu (both not in the squad). The former last started in late October, while for Teixeira, this is only his second start of the season, with his previous one coming in the goalless draw against Elversberg all the way back on Matchday 1.
Rossmann replaces Iyoha
Tim Rossmann gets another chance in the starting XI, replacing Emmanuel Iyoha, who is missing from the Fortuna squad for the first time this season. This is the only change following the 1-1 draw against Schalke.
Magdeburg starting XI
Reimann - Hugonet, Mathisen, Heber - Gnaka, Hercher, El Hankouri, Krempicki - Atik, Kaars, Teixeira
This is how Fortuna lines up
Kastenmeier - Oberdorf, Hoffmann, Siebert - Fridriksson, Sobottka, Haag, Rossmann - Jóhannesson, Myron van Brederode, Kownacki
Daniel Thioune on facing Magdeburg
"Psychologically, it feels good to win a football match first of all, because nothing replaces victories. We desperately want to win football matches because it feels incredibly good. This will be a challenge for us against the best away team in the league. You can see that Christian Titz has been given the opportunity to work for many, many years and has developed the team well."
Christian Titz on facing Fortuna
"We are aware of the difficulty of the task. We know that in Düsseldorf we are facing a team that is very efficient. They are a defensively stable and disciplined side. This has been their hallmark since the beginning of the season. They have a mix of quick counter-attacking play and clean build-up play."
Debutant
Daniel Heber made his Bundesliga 2 debut in the 3-2 defeat in Düsseldorf in January 2023.
Good run
Indeed, Düsseldorf have won all of their last five competitive matches against Magdeburg, whose last victory came on the road in the Regionalliga in March 2008.
Only one winner?
Düsseldorf have narrowly won all four Bundesliga 2 encounters against Magdeburg (2-1, then 3-2 three times in a row).
