Full-time: Paderborn 1-2 Karlsruhe
Paderborn dominated the match but it's Karlsruhe who take all three points. Despite clear superiority and numerous chances, the hosts failed to capitalise. The visitors clinically took their few opportunities through Jung and Zivzivadze, while Paderborn's consolation goal from the penalty spot by Obermair was too little.

A leveller? It's ruled out!
Bäuerle crosses from the left half-space after a throw-in. Brackelmann flicks it on with the back of his head at the near post. Platte comes in at the back post and puts it away, but the flag immediately goes up. Platte was just beyond the last man.

Must be it!
Zivzivadze secures the ball in the centre circle against two Paderborn players and manages to turn. Schleusener is running to his right and receives a perfect through ball. With long strides, he's heading towards the goal with only Schubert to beat. The keeper waits, makes himself big and saves with his foot. Huge chance to wrap this game up.

Chance to counter
Engelns is relatively alone on his way forward. The Karlsruhe players are organised again and surround Engelns three to one, winning back possession of the ball.
77'
Well over!
Wanitzek gets another chance to finish this for Karlsruhe, but his effort nearly flies out of the stadium.
73'
Nicely played!
Grimaldi receives the ball centrally in front of the penalty area. He's facing away from the goal, feints as if he's turning over his left shoulder, but quickly changes direction and leaves two Karlsruhe players standing. He then threads the ball through to Bilbija's run, who tries to cross, but the ball is blocked.

Platte misses
Ansah crosses to the far post. Platte has made a run there and tries to dive for the ball, but it flies just past him and out for a goal kick.

First action
Wanitzek has the ball on the left edge of the penalty area. Herold overlaps him and receives the ball. The full-back chips the ball to the far post, where Zivzivadze is lurking for the header, but Scheller is alert and manages to clear with his head before the Karlsruhe striker can get to it.

Paderborn up the pressure
The home side are on the attack again. Another cross from the right flank sails into the penalty area, where Zehnter sneaks in behind the defenders and gets his head to the ball. Weiß throws his fists up and makes a good reaction save.

Crossbar!
Zehnter is ready at the corner flag. He whips in a cross towards the six-yard box. Brackelmann rises highest and gets to the ball with the back of his head. The header takes a deflection and smashes against the crossbar. So close!

Deflected!
Curda sets himself up 20 metres from goal and takes a shot. The low drive is dangerously deflected on the six-yard box and Weiß has to fully stretch and parry it behind for a corner!

Half-time: Paderborn 1-2 Karlsruhe
Despite the hosts' dominance, Karlsruhe hold a 2-1 lead. The visitors clinically capitalised on their few chances, with Jung and Zivzivadze benefitting from Paderborn's disorganisation and individual errors. The home side, on the other hand, have so far struggled with taking chances and squandered several. It was only Obermair who brought them back into the game with a confidently converted penalty.

Zivzivadze completes the dozen
For Zivzivadze, it's his 12th goal of the season, putting him back alone at the top of the Bundesliga 2 scoring charts (Schalke's Moussa Sylla has scored 11 times). Zivzivadze has now scored as many goals as he did in the entire previous campaign.

GOOOAL!
And Karlsruhe score out of nowhere again! Just after Herold clears a shot from Scheller off the line, Weiß quickly sends the ball long towards Zivzivadze. Schubert comes out of his box, takes a touch but plays it too far ahead. Zivzivadze is quickly onto it, snatches the ball and easily slots it into the empty net!

Another corner

Surprising lead?
Karlsruhe need almost twice as long as Paderborn to regain possession of the ball. The home side are enjoying significantly more of the play and are clearly the better team. However, the only goal of the match was scored by the visitors.

Out of nowhere!
The visitors keep it simple and make their move count. Schleusener is sent down the right flank and has far too much space. He delivers the cross into the penalty area. Zivzivadze is waiting there but fails to make proper contact with the ball. It pops up nicely though for Jung running in and he slots it into the empty net.
15'
Close!
Brackelmann crosses from the half-space into the penalty area. Platte gets his head to the ball and misses the goal by mere centimetres.

Nice play
Castaneda is played free in front of the penalty area. The midfielder chips the ball into Bilbija's path. He controls it in the box and takes a shot. The angle was a bit tight and the ball goes well wide, but the home side are getting closer.
9'
Too imprecise
Now Karlsruhe have possession. A one-two between Jung and Burnić on the right side. Zivzivadze makes a run in the penalty area, Burnić tries to play him in, but the pass ends up with Weiß.
6'
No way through yet
Paderborn pass the ball back and forth in search of a gap. The visitors' two banks of four are shifting very well. Zehnter eventually loses patience on the left and tries a cross from the half-space, but it sails into touch.
3'
Sizing each other up
Paderborn are seeing more possession at the start, with Karlsruhe sitting back in wait for counter-attacking opportunities. Neither team are being drawn out of their shell yet.

Lukas Kwasniok on facing Karlsruhe
"When we play against Karlsruhe, your heart beats a bit faster. These are always very special 90 minutes and will remain so. To have 31 points at the end of the first half of the season would be outstanding. If we don't manage it and stay at 28, I would be disappointed. I don't want to be presumptuous, but our form over the past few months suggests more than 'just' the 28 points."
Christian Eichner on facing Paderborn
"If we want to keep up with the teams at the top, we need to keep improving. The victory last Friday did us good, the mood was more relaxed. Anyone who follows Bundesliga 2 won't be surprised that Paderborn are at least back in this larger group that has formed at the moment."
Familiar face
Lukas Kwasniok was a youth player at Karlsruhe and also coached various youth teams at the club. In December 2016, he was the interim coach of the first team in Bundesliga 2 for two matches (0-0 draws against Braunschweig and in Dresden). As a manager, he has never lost against his former club.
Long time ago
Karlsruhe last won against the hosts in November 2020 (1-0 at home), while in their last away victory in Paderborn (2-0 in November 2017 in the 3rd division), Fabian Schleusener was among the goalscorers.
Karlsruhe the lucky charm?
In Bundesliga 2, Paderborn has celebrated more victories against Karlsruhe (12) than against any other team.
Good record
Paderborn are unbeaten in seven matches against Karlsruhe.
