Full-time: Nuremberg 1-0 Darmstadt
Both teams showed strong defensive performances, making it difficult for top strikers like Tzimas for FCN and Hornby on the other side. Nuremberg had more chances, particularly in the second half, and thus earned the narrow victory. Ironically, it was Drexler - a defensive player and the only substitute for Nuremberg up to that point - who secured the win.

Reichert saves Lakenmacher's header
A chance for the Lilies, but Lakenmacher's header lacks power - no problem for the Nuremberg keeper.
90'
Three minutes added
Darmstadt have about 180 seconds left to find a response.
89'
Förster has a crack
Darmstadt are throwing everything forward. Förster's long-range effort flies wide of the left post.
88'
Fresh FCN personnel
Flick is brought on to help see out the victory.
87'
Deserved goal
The lead is not undeserved. The fact that, of all people, the only Nuremberg substitute so far scores - and then it's a defensive player - makes it all the more interesting.
85'
Drexler breaks the deadlock!
Nuremberg rewards themselves for their courageous performance. Justvan crosses from the left into the penalty area, where several players miss it, but the advanced Drexler is lurking at the far post and pushes the ball over the line.
84'
Tzimas!
The best chance of the match! An outstanding cross from Emreli finds Tzimas, who gets a foot to it but is denied by an incredible save from Schuhen.
83'
Papela from distance
Both teams want the win. Papela's attempt from about 30 yards lands about well wide of the left post.
81'
Lubach for the third time
Nuremberg counter-attack through Lubach. Schuhen throws his arms up, as the sharp attempt from the busy winger would have found the target.
81'
Darmstadt combine
Both defensive lines are doing a really strong job today. The Lilies are actually combining well, but Knoche and Co. close down the spaces. Superb defensive play from the home side.
78'
There was more in it
Justvan drives across half the pitch and lays it off to Tzimas. But the Greek's immediate return pass is overhit. With better timing, Justvan would likely have found himself one-on-one with Schuhen.
76'
Klose brings on Drexler
Drexler comes on for Jeltsch. Now FCN coach Klose has also made a substitution.
75'
Papela!
Darmstadt's best chance of the match! After a corner, Papela is left criminally unmarked, but his header grazes the right angle of the goalpost. It would have been his first goal for the Lillies.
74'
Klose trusts the starting eleven
Nuremberg, by the way, have not made any substitutions yet.
73'
Two new attacking players
Double substitution for Darmstadt. Marseiler and Lakenmacher are brought on to bolster the attack.
71'
Tight match in Nuremberg
Will there be a breakthrough? Or will it actually remain the first 0-0 draw in a competitive match between these teams? Just under 20 minutes left.
69'
Struggling to keep the ball
Yilmaz is getting stronger. His solo run down the left flank ends at Lopez. But Nuremberg's counter-pressing is strong - they win the ball back several times, yet there's always a Darmstadt defender's leg in the way. Crazy scene.
66'
Emreli always involved
Nuremberg are making it too complicated. Yilmaz, Tzimas and Emreli are slightly getting in each other's way and in the end, the latter manages to get a shot off, which is deflected and rolls past the left post.
63'
Strong Knoche
Knoche is impressing today in his role as defensive leader. Even the powerful Hornby is struggling against the defensive rock.

Tzimas full of eagerness
Tzimas is struggling today, but the top scorer continues to work diligently. A misunderstanding with his attacking colleagues causes frustration for the Greek.
57'
Knoche blocks Hornby's attempt
It's back and forth now. Brilliant ball from Müller into Hornby's path. He cuts inside and fires a powerful shot, but Knoche blocks it strongly.
56'
Two Nuremberg players go down
Now there's excitement in Darmstadt's penalty area twice in quick succession. First Yilmaz goes down, then Justvan. Siebert briefly communicates with the VAR, but play continues.
53'
Emreli!
The pace is picking up and Emreli has the best chance of the match so far. He powers through on the right byline and then tries a shot from a tight angle, but Schuhen makes himself big and saves brilliantly!
51'
Darmstadt combine too
Now Darmstadt also let the ball flow nicely. Buenos' low cross from the left is not without danger, but Hornby and Vilhelmsson miss it.
49'
Lovely combination play
Nuremberg combine beautifully through the Darmstadt half. Emreli takes a shot from the edge of the penalty area, but Schuhen makes a confident save.
48'
Teams perform better in the second half
A small encouragement for the second half: Both teams have scored more goals after the break than in the first 45 minutes this season.

Half-time: Nuremberg 0-0 Darmstadt
It's goalless at the break. Hornby almost put the visitors ahead out of nowhere, while earlier, the impressive Lubach had narrowly failed twice. Not much else has happened so far, though the Lilies have already had to substitute two injured players.

Hornby!
Nuremberg almost score an own goal. Knoche loses possession of the ball at the edge of their own penalty area, Hornby intercepts and nearly buries the rebound. The ball grazes the left post.
45'
Corredor again
Once again, Killian Corredor is the initiator of the attacking efforts. In the end, Oscar Vilhelmsson squanders possession.

Tough challenge
Förster comes in with pace and brings down Lubach. The yellow card is deserved.
40'
First yellow card
Jeltsch is late in his challenge on Corredor, and in doing so, he prevents a potential counter-attack for the visitors. This combination earns him the first booking of the match.
39'
Tzimas and Justvan combine
Slowly, the ten-goal scorer is finding his way into the match. He spots Justvan, who's lurking on the left side of the penalty area, but perhaps takes a fraction too long. The shot is blocked.
38'
Tzimas hardly in the game
Yilmaz tries to bring the top striker into the game. But the Greek loses the ball while dribbling at the byline. Goal-kick for the Lillies.
36'
Yilmaz tries his luck
While the flow of the game is hardly established, Nürnberg sneaks back into the match. After a different corner tactic, Yilmaz gets a shot from about 18 yards out. However, the ball slips off his boot and goes well wide to the left.
34'
Two injuries, two substitutions
Bueno comes on as Darmstadt's second new player of the half, following two injuries.
33'
Busy winger
Corredor is having a good game on the left flank. He keeps cutting inside from there and bringing energy to the visitors' attacking play.

He can't continue either! Darmstadt will be forced to make their second substitution due to injury.

Nürnberger in pain
Another interruption. Darmstadt's left-back Nürnberger seems to have hurt his hip and is receiving further treatment off the pitch.
29'
Fiercely contested
Emreli and Vukotić collide in a midfield duel. Both stay down briefly, but then get back up. Play resumes with a drop ball.
27'
Lubach again!
Castrop's replacement is Nuremberg's most noticeable attacking player. He drives up the left flank and then aims for the top right corner with a curled effort from about 20 yards out. The ball flies just wide.
24'
Modest pace in the opening phase
The two teams have faced each other 42 times in competitive matches, and it has never ended goalless. This gives hope that the pace of the match will pick up soon.

Justvan!
Nuremberg now shift the play more into the visitors' half. Emreli strongly asserts himself on the right side and then delivers a pinpoint cross to the far post. Former Darmstadt player Justvan comes rushing in and heads the ball onto the side netting. Best chance of the match so far!
17'
Papela comes on as a substitute
And so it happens. Papela replaces the central midfielder, who seemed to be having problems with his thigh.
16'
First substitution on the horizon
Kleefisch is taking a lot of knocks in the opening minutes. This time he was caught awkwardly in a midfield challenge. Although he can stand up after a brief pause, it doesn't seem like he can continue. Papela is already warming up.
14'
Home side slightly more active
The disallowed offside goal seems to have woken up the home side. Nuremberg are now pressing a bit more and have earned the first corner of the match. However, it comes to nothing.
12'
Darmstadt dominate
Nuremberg have been far too passive so far.
10'
Disallowed!
Darmstadt celebrate, but only for a brief moment. Horny puts the ball in the net, but there was an offside in the build-up. It was close, but VAR confirms the decision of the referee team led by Daniel Schiebert.

Förster misses
Darmstadt remain the more active team. After a long period of passing play, Corredor lays it off for Förster. His shot from the edge of the penalty area flies well over the bar.
5'
Nuremberg cautious
Nuremberg seem to be willing to let the visitors have the ball for now. Against Paderborn, Darmstadt had some offensive problems when in possession. Has that match provided some insight?
2'
Heavy traffic in the six-yard box
The set-piece is delivered into the penalty area. Kleefisch can't make proper contact with his head. In the ensuing scramble, three Lilies players briefly end up on the ground. After a brief moment, they're all back in action.
1'
Attacking start
Darmstadt start well. Corredor is sent down the left flank and is then held near the corner of the penalty area. Free kick for the Lillies.

Nuremberg: Young and strong at set-pieces
Some interesting facts about the hosts: The already-youngest team in the league has become even younger today with the inclusion of Yilmaz (19 years old) and Lubach (20). The starting eleven has an average age of 24. Also noteworthy: Klose's men could be particularly dangerous from set-pieces today. They are the second most dangerous team from free kicks (45 percent more dangerous than the league average), while Darmstadt is the most vulnerable team when defending in this category.
One change for Darmstadt
Manager Kohfeldt makes one alteration. Compared to the somewhat disappointing 1-0 loss against Paderborn, especially going forwards, Vilhelmsson replaces Marseiler in the starting eleven.
More on that Nuremberg team
Compared to the 3-1 defeat at Schalke, the FCN coach has reshuffled in three positions. He has to do without Castrop, with Lubach coming in instead. Emreli and Yilmaz start in place of Soares and Flick (both on the bench).
Darmstadt starting XI
Schuhen - Lopez, Riedel, Vukotić, Nürnberger - Klefisch, Müller - Förster, Corredor - Hornby, Vilhelmsson
Nuremberg starting XI
Reichert - Jeltsch, Knoche, Karafiát - Villadsen, Jander, Mahir Emreli, Yilmaz - Justvan, Lubach - Tzimas
Miroslav Klose on Darmstadt
"Darmstadt were very good in the reverse fixture, creating many one-on-one situations. That's exactly what I expect tomorrow as well. We will need to be brave to get our game on the pitch with the right attitude. I have never met Florian Kohfeldt personally, but he was once linked as an expert during my coaching course. I'm looking forward to meeting him."
Florian Kohfeldt on Nuremberg
"Miro Klose is one of the most outstanding players who ever played for Werder. I absolutely loved watching him play football - especially for the national team. He is one of the greatest personalities we have in German football. I'm looking forward to meeting him. I'm looking forward to a duel under floodlights with one of Germany's most traditional clubs. I like the Friday evening matches - and I think the team does too."
Niemczycki loaned to Israel
SV Darmstadt 98 loans goalkeeper Karol Niemczycki to FC Ashdod in the Israeli Premier League for the second half of the season.
Ševčík loan terminated
FCN and Sparta Prague have terminated the loan deal for Michal Ševčík. However, the attacking midfielder is not returning to his parent club, but is instead being loaned directly to Sparta's league rivals FK Mlada Boleslav.
Hofmann loaned to 3rd division
Nuremberg have loaned right-back Jannik Hofmann to VfB Stuttgart. The 22-year-old is set to play for their second team in the 3rd division.
The Bremen connection
Florian Kohfeldt has faced Nuremberg twice before; both matches in charge of Werder Bremen in the 2018/19 Bundesliga season ended in 1-1 draws. While Miroslav Klose played for Werder's first team in the Champions League from 2004 to 2007, Kohfeldt was active in Bremen's third team during the same period and simultaneously began his coaching career in Werder's youth setup in 2006.
Good memories for the Lilies
Darmstadt have won three of their last four away matches in Nuremberg and lost only one of their last ten away games there too (three wins, six draws). The exception to that was a 3-1 home victory for Nuremberg on 9 April 2022.
Goals guaranteed?
None of the 42 competitive matches between these two clubs (including 25 in the Bundesliga 2) have ended goalless.
