Full-time: Braunschweig 1-2 Cologne
Cologne acted like a top team in the second half, doing only what was necessary and keeping a clean sheet. Braunschweig showed great commitment, but the Lower Saxony side lacked precision in the final third. Ultimately, a deserved victory for the Billy Goats, who will spend the night at the top of the table.

Never again is always! 21st 'Remembrance Day in German Football'
80 years ago, on 27 January 1945, the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp was liberated. German football has been commemorating this event for more than 20 years, remembering the people persecuted, deported and murdered by the Nazis on matchdays around 27 January.
A look at the benches
Braunschweig's new signings Mohamed Dräger (arrived from Basel) and Julian Baas (Sparta Rotterdam) have walked right into the squad, but are initially on the bench. For Cologne, Denis Huseinbašić and Luca Waldschmidt are back in the squad, but top-scorer Tim Lemperle is missing.
Tigges is back!
For Tigges, this is his first start in 2024/25, after eleven substitute appearances. He last started on Matchday 34 of the previous season, scoring Cologne's final Bundesliga goal in the 1-4 defeat at Heidenheim.
One change
There's a change for Cologne following their 1-0 victory against SV Elversberg: target man Tigges starts in place of pacey dribbler Maina.
Two changes
Compared to the 1-1 draw in Magdeburg, there are two changes for Eintracht: Ivanov and Polter start in place of Jaeckel and Szabó, who both take a seat on the bench.
Cologne's starting XI
Schwäbe - Schmied, Hübers, Heintz - Gazibegović, Martel, Ljubicic, Paqarada - Kainz - Tigges, Downs
Eintracht's starting XI
Hoffmann - Ivanov, Bičakčić, Ehlers - Rittmüller, Tempelmann, Köhler, Gómez, Di Michele Sanchez - Philippe, Polter
What Daniel Scherning says
"We see an opportunity to win our first match of this calendar year at home in our stadium. There's no question that we need a consistently top-level performance for the full 90+ minutes to make sure we take all three points here."
New backup for the Billygoats
Cologne have strengthened their goalkeeping squad. Anthony Racioppi from Hull City joins as their number two. The 26-year-old keeper will play for Cologne on loan until the end of the season, with the club also securing a purchase option for the summer.
Wäschenbach moves to Karlsruhe
Meiko Wäschenbach has left Cologne and transferred to Karlsruhe. The 21-year-old signed a contract with the second-division club on Thursday afternoon.
Gerhard Struber on Braunschweig
"Braunschweig has repeatedly demonstrated how good they can be. We need to push ourselves to the limit to secure the three important points."
Schmid transfers from Cologne to Aue
Striker Maximilian Schmid leaves Cologne during the winter break and joins third-tier club FC Erzgebirge Aue.
New winger for the Lions
Eintracht Braunschweig have signed Mohamed Dräger. The 28-year-old wide man was most recently under contract with FC Basel, and has now signed a deal with the Lions until 30 June 2026. Dräger will wear the number 2 shirt.
Urbig leaves Cologne
The Billygoats have sold goalkeeper Jonas Urbig to Bayern Munich. The talented keeper made eleven competitive appearances for Cologne in the first half of the season before losing his starting position to Marvin Schwäbe.
