Full time: Preußen Münster 1-2 Hamburg

Despite HSV's early dominance, the home side took a surprise lead through Frenkert. Hamburg remained unfazed and pushed for the equaliser. Just before half-time, Selke converted a perfect cross from Hefti with a header to make it 1-1. He struck in stoppage time of the second half too, converting from the penalty spot to snatch all three points.

Hamburg on top...

information
xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals> xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals> goals).
... which is reflected in the xG value. Selke's header played a major part in that. It was the best chance of the game by a mile.

A new face in the squad

Münster must once again do without their top scorer Mees. For Hamburg, new signing Soumahoro is not yet included, but the other one is: Alexander Rössing-Lelesiit, an 18-year-old Norwegian winger.

Early birthday present

Jean-Luc Dompe is on the bench today, while youngster Otto Stange gets his first start for the senior team (previously five substitute appearances), two days before his 18th birthday.

Swiss wing duo

Muheim returns after serving a one-match suspension, while his compatriot Hefti remains in the team and moves to the right. Mikelbrencis makes way.

Selke plays

HSV's top scorer Selke has only missed one match after his cheekbone injury and returns to the starting line-up today, replacing Königsdörffer.

Four changes for HSV

Merlin Polzin makes four changes, the most HSV have made in a single match this season. Among others, captain Schonlau returns to the starting eleven for the first time in the second half of the season, replacing the suspended Elfadli.

Schenk and Kirkeskov fit

There are two changes for Münster after the 2-1 loss at Kaiserslautern. First-choice goalkeeper Johannes Schenk and captain Mikkel Kirkeskov are fit again, replacing Morten Behrens and Simon Scherder.

HSV starting line-up

Fernandes - Muheim, Hadžikadunić, Schonlau, Hefti - Meffert - Karabec, Richter - Sahiti, Stange, Selke

Münster starting line-up

Schenk - Kirkeskov, Paetow, Koulis - ter Horst, Hendrix, Frenkert - Kinsombi, Kyerewaa - Amenyido, Pick

Sascha Hildmann on facing Hamburg

"Tomorrow, Hamburg are coming, which is a special challenge. A club that wants to be promoted, bringing an incredible amount of quality. [Jean-Luc] Dompé, [Davie] Selke, [Ransford] Königsdörffer - these are big names. We will need to be at our best, but we want to succeed at home."
camera-photo

Merlin Polzin on facing Münster

"This will be a challenging task, which is due to the way they play. After switching to a defensive back five, they have made it very difficult for many opponents, defending their goal very well and also having good counter-attacking players. However, we know what to expect and are very positive. And we're looking forward to the Preußenstadion, because it's a really cool story when you know what role this place has played in the history of HSV. We're looking forward to this match and to this stadium, and we definitely want to give the HSV fans a victory to take home."

Familiar Face

David Kinsombi was under contract with HSV from 2019 to 2022, playing more matches (78) and scoring more goals (11) for them than for any other club in Bundesliga 2. He has scored three times in six second-tier matches against his former club.

Last competitive victory

Münster's only competitive victory against HSV was a 3-1 home win in May 1951 in the group stage of the championship finals. Adi Preißler scored to make it 1-0 for the Eagles.

Memories of Uwe Seeler

The draw on the first Bundesliga matchday in history was also Münster's last positive result success against HSV. Since then, there have been three clear HSV victories in three competitive matches: 4-1 earlier this season, 4-0 in the DFB Cup in 1974 in Münster (including a brace by Willi Reimann) and 5-0 in the second Bundesliga game of 1963/64 (hat-trick by Uwe Seeler).

Historic

Münster and HSV are playing in the same league for the first time in 61 years. The last time that happened was in the 1963/64 season, the inaugural Bundesliga season, when they met on the first matchday at the Preußenstadion, drawing 1-1 with goals from Falk Dörr and Gert 'Charly' Dörfel.
