Starting XI debut for Förster
Darmstadt also make only one change compared to last week, with Philipp Förster, formerly active in KSC's youth setup, making his starting XI debut in a Lilies' shirt and resigning Luca Marseiler to the bench.
Franke returns
Marcel Franke had to sit out the 4-4 draw in Cologne due to injury, but now the regular centre-back is fit again and returns to the starting lineup in place of Christoph Kobald. This is the only change for the Baden side after their turbulent draw in Cologne.
Darmstadt starting XI:
Schuhen - López, Riedel, Vukotić, Bueno - Klefisch, Müller - Förster, Corredor - Lidberg, Hornby
Karlsruher starting XI:
Weiß - Jung, Franke, Beifus, Günther - Rapp, Jensen - Burnić, Wanitzek - Zivzivadze, Schleusener
Reunion
Philipp Förster, who recently signed for Darmstadt, was born in Bretten - a good 20 kilometres from Karlsruhe where he played for KSC as a youth player.
Favourite opponent
Fabian Schleusener has scored five times in nine games against Darmstadt in the Bundesliga 2 - more than against any other team. He has also scored once in each of the last three matches against the Lilies.
Lilies on top
The last two times these sides faced one another was in the 2022/23 season, with Darmstadt victorious 2-1 in both BL2 games.
Eichner on Darmstadt:
"It will be an evenly matched game. They are a team that knows at all times what it takes to win matches. We need alertness and attitude."
Kohfeldt on Karlsruhe:
"Karlsruher SC has been going through a phase of great stability in recent years. They now want to take the next step. A lot of things are going well for KSC. Above all, they do the simple things right. Karlsruhe has good structure in defence. They know when to press and when to drop back. In addition, KSC has a lot of quality in their squad."
