Full-time: Hoffenheim 1-1 Freiburg

The game ends 1-1, with neither team able to dominate for the full 90 minutes. Freiburg took the lead through Ginter, but only managed to hold the advantage for a few minutes before Bischof's impressive and well-deserved equaliser. Neither team really took any risks after that, so the draw was fair.

Racing onto a long pass from Baumann, Bruun Larsen controls the ball perfectly but his ambitions are foiled by the on-rushing Atubolu. So close!

Scoring chances in short supply

Nothing is happening in front of goal. Vincenzo Grifo, who used to play for Hoffenheim, has been involved in nine of Freiburg's 16 goals this season (three goals, six assists). Perhaps the Italian can do something to change the situation.

Goals on the cards

Meanwhile the fans can confidently expect goals in this clash, as there have been on average five per match in Hoffenheim's six home matches thus far this season. ON top of that, the hosts have conceded at least one goal in their last 26 home games, which puts them just five matches short of equalling Stuttgart's unenviable record (31 games from April 2021 to February 2023).

Hoffenheim's Freiburg hoodoo

SC Freiburg have good reason to hope for at least a point today - their last defeat to Hoffenheim dates back three years almost to the day.

Baumann overtakes Sepp Maier

Oliver Baumann will play his 474th Bundesliga game today, overtaking Sepp Maier in the process. The 34-year-old Hoffenheim and Germany keeper is ranked 19th in the all-time ranking (sixth among goalkeepers).

More on those teams

Ilzer makes two changes to the side that lost 3-0 to Wolfsburg in the DFB Cup in mid-week, with Nsoki starting in central defence in place of Akpoguma while Bruun Larsen replaces Moerstedt in attack. Meanwhile Schuster makes just one change to the team that beat Gladbach 3-1 in their last Bundesliga outing: Patrick Osterhage (back after a two-match suspension) starts in place of Vincenzo Grifo, who is missing from the starting line-up for the first time this Bundesliga season.

Christian Ilzer on facing Freiburg

"They won against Gladbach (last weekend). Perhaps their (midweek) cup defeat in Bielefeld will give them some extra motivation. We've sat down to work out what kind of side we can expect to come up against. We want to ensure that our team is as well prepared as possible."
camera-photo

Julian Schuster on facing Hoffenheim

"Their home win against Leipzig (last month) was, of course, enormous. Although they have since lost three times in three different competitions, you shouldn't be fooled by the results. We know that we were good in the last few games in Hoffenheim. It's important to take things like that with us after (our recent DFB Cup loss)."
camera-photo

Christian Ilzer on Hoffenheim's recent dip

"We played three away games in six days and hardly had time to train," said the new boss of the 3-0 Europa League loss in Braga, the 2-0 Bundesliga loss in Mainz and the 3-0 DFB Cup elimination at the hands of Wolfsburg. "The team is unsettled and doesn't have the balance you need. Nevertheless, these games have provided us with valuable insights. We have to process them very quickly in order to bring that home-game spirit back onto the pitch on Sunday and get back to winning ways. That will boost our confidence again."
