Full-time Stuttgart 1-1 Hoffenheim

What late drama here. A very resilient Hoffenheim looked like they'd managed to hold onto their first half lead. Stach was a monster at the back and they didn't look to be beaten but Stuttgart just kept on pushing. They were rewarded with a penalty after Akpoguma handled the ball and Demirović equalised right at the death! Another late equaliser for The Swabians and that's now 22 consecutive Bundesliga games in which Stuttgart have scored.

Half-time Stuttgart 0-1 Hoffenheim

An electric start to the half saw chances cleared off the line by each side. The game then grew flat for a longer period in the middle of the half, though the challenges remained very hard. Stuttgart dominated possession but Hoffenheim were too compact and difficult to break down. A mistake from Mittelstädt at the very end of the half allowed Gendrey to find himself in a one-on-one situation and to finish coolly for the visitors.

Hoeneß's thoughts on Hoffenheim

"There’s power coming our way and we have to be well prepared for that. Obviously, we want to come out of this block between the international breaks with a good result. That means we want to turn in a good performance, we want to get on top of Hoffenheim at home and we want to put in a lot of effort to do that. I won’t allow or accept that we neglect the Bundesliga in any form. The Bundesliga was the biggest of all last season and remains the biggest of all for me. And ultimately, the Bundesliga will determine whether we’ve had a good season or we look back on the season with satisfaction or not."

Matarazzo's thoughts on Stuttgart

"It's always an exciting fixture. Stuttgart are in very good form, playing very good football. It's tough to play in Stuttgart. We need to have focus in all phases of the game, whether in attack or defence. We need to support each other. We want to play to our strengths in attack. That worked very well in the first 30 minutes against Kyiv. It all needs to work on Sunday."

Watch: Super Stuttgart back on the up

There have been a couple of ups and downs this season, but the hosts have shown glimpses of the form that took them to the runners-up spot.

Contrasting form

Stuttgart are unbeaten in their last four Bundesliga matches, while Hoffenheim are the only side in the Bundesliga to lose all of their last four.

Both coaches face former sides

Hoffenheim were the first Bundesliga side that Stuttgart coach Sebastian Hoeneß was in charge of, while Pellegrino Matarazzo spent over two years in charge of Stuttgart.

Leweling gets Germany call

Meanwhile it was a Stuttgarter - right-sided attacker Jamie Leweling - who fielded Nagelsmann's call after Bayern Munich's Jamal Musiala (hip injury) was forced out of the Germany squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations clashes with Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Netherlands. It is the versatile 23-year-old's maiden call-up to the Nationalelf.

Baumann, Nübel get Germany call-up

Stuttgart's Alexander Nübel and Hoffenheim's Oliver Baumann were both in the running to replace the injured Marc-Andre ter Stegen in the Germany goal over the coming international break, and indeed both got the call from Nationaltrainer Julian Nagelsmann on Thursday. However, Baumann appears to be slightly ahead of his younger counterpart in the pecking order.
