ADDED TIME

Four minutes have been signalled.

NOT GAME ON!

The visitors nip that in the bud immediately and the Schalke academy graduate refuses to celebrate. Again the hosts misplace a pass in midfield, Mehlem slots in Goller and he drives it past Fraisl.

GAME ON??

Schalke are back in it through the substitute. Pieringer wins a challenger on the edge of the box and is able to cut in on his right and bends it into the far corner.

SANE RETURNS

After over six months out injured.
83'

NO DANGER FROM KEMPE

The set-piece specialist lofts a free-kick straight into the arms of Fraisl, who immediately releases the ball to get Schalke going again.
78'

WELL WIDE

Ouwejan's low cross is cleared but only as far as Zalazar, but he drives his effort well wide.
78'

ANOTHER STRIKER

Schalke are going for it and send on striker Pieringer for centre-back Itakura.

SCHALKE SEEING THE BALL

But not doing too much with it thus far.

RAINING IN GELSENKIRCHEN

It's starting to get heavier as Schalke's situation worsens. They're getting leapfrogged by Darmstadt if it stays as it is.
70'

THIAW OFFSIDE

Ball is in the Darmstadt net after a free-kick is headed against the post and Thiaw taps in the rebound, but the defender had strayed beyond the last defender.
68'

TERODDE

The big man isn't giving up and fires off an effort from the edge of the box. Tipped over the bar by Schuhen.

TOP SCORERS

Darmstadt now have 30 goals this season and are the outright top scorers in Bundesliga 2. Tietz (r.) has 10 of those.
63'

TIETZ ADDS THE THIRD!

A fourth brace of the season for the Darmstadt striker and it's clinical finish. Schalke lose the ball high up the pitch and the visitors break away with four players. Kempe plays the through ball to Tietz running beyond the last defender and he slots it past a stranded Fraisl.

DOUBLE CHANGE

Schalke react with fresh legs in midfield and up front with Darko Churlinov and Rodrigo Zalazar.
59'

AND THERE IT IS

It's Darmstadt who make the first move and it's not a defensive one as they send on Schalke youth product Benjamin Goller.

HOUR APPROACHING

This is the time coaches normally look to start making changes....
55'

STILL NOTHING FROM TERODDE

The Schalke striker has now gone over four hours in all competitions without a goal.

UPROAR

The home side are calling for action but Isherwood's slide on Terodde took all of the ball and then the man. Referee Sather saw nothing wrong with that and tells the Schalke bench to calm down.
49'

ALMOST A THIRD

Honsak nearly has a fortunate second of this game as a clearance bounces off him and into the grateful arms of Fraisl.
46'

WE'RE BACK

A brief false start as two Darmstadt players crossed the halfway line before the ball moved, but we're back under way for the second 45 minutes now. No changes for either side at the break.

ADVANTAGE DARMSTADT

The Lilies are yet to win this season after trailing, but they've turned things around after 45 minutes in Gelsenkirchen, reacting to that early own goal with two strikes of their own.

TERODDE AGAIN...

Good flexibility from the big man as he gets his leg up high to turn a cross towards goal, but there's no power behind it and it lands in the arms of Schuhen.
40'

THIAW AGAIN!

The centre-back is once again in the Darmstadt box and at the heart of things, but Isherwood gets in a leg just before Thiaw can pull the trigger on a bouncing ball.
37'

KEMPE INTO THE WALL

Both his goals this season have been from set pieces, but Darmstadt's dead-ball specialist only puts this effort into the wall.
36'

PFEIFFER DRIVES

Luca Pfeiffer drives forwards through the middle and is only stopped by a foul by Aydin, who sees yellow for it. Free-kick a yard to the left of the D.
33'

STRING OF CORNERS

Darmstadt are camped in the Schalke penalty area as they earn corner after corner. The hosts finally clear their lines at the third attempt.

TERODDE!

The wait for that 154th Bundesliga 2 goal goes on as he skips past a challenge after a quick throw deep in the Darmstadt half. He tries to go for the far corner but doesn't quite get the bend on it.

DARMSTADT FLYING HIGH

The Lilies are up to fourth and ahead of Schalke as it stands.

DARMSTADT TURN IT AROUND!

Jubilation in the away end at the Veltins-Arena. Latza with a poor pass in his own half and Darmstadt are in with Gjasula's pass to Honsak, who rides three challenges before poking past Fraisl for his first goal of the season.

THIAW AGAIN

Same protagonists, this time a corner from the right, this time Thiaw heads wide.
20'

CLOSE FOR THIAW

Ouwejan with another dangerous delivery from a set piece, targeting Thiaw at the far post with a free-kick from the left, but the defender is just beaten to the ball.
18'

TIETZ ON HIS TRAVELS

Tietz now has nine goals for the campaign, of which six have come away from home. That's as many as Terodde has and is only fewer than Sven Michel (eight).
11'

WE'RE LEVEL!

First attack we've seen from Darmstadt and they're back in it. Holland with the long ball, Manu heads it on into the path of Tietz. He cuts in onto his right coolly puts it past Fraisl. A lengthy VAR check to make sure the striker was onside before the goal is confirmed.

SCHALKE LEAD!

Not as flowing as the previous move but Schalke won't care. The corner comes in from the left and Darmstadt's top scorer Luca Pfeiffer can't sort his body quick enough as the ball bounces off him and past a despairing Schuhen.

TERODDE BLOCKED!

Down the left this time by the hosts and with pace. It comes into Terodde coming across the front post, but a defender gets a leg in there to block.
6'

AYDIN WIDE

Schalke starting on the front foot and pressing Darmstadt back. They earn a corner on the right, which is played short and then back to the edge of the D for Aydin to run onto, but he puts his effort wide.

Schalke as ever at home in their Royal Blue shirts with white shorts. Darmstadt are in their away kit of orange shirt and blue shorts.

POSITIVE FOR SCHALKE

These sides have met 16 times in all competitions down the years, with Schalke dominating with 10 wins to only four for Darmstadt. The last time they came across each other in the second division was 30 years ago as the Royal Blues celebrated promotion in front of 72,000 at the Parkstadion in June 1991 with a 1-0 victory. The record in Bundesliga 2 is a bit tighter with just four S04 wins to three for the Lilies in eight fixtures. A combined 31 goals does mean an average of almost four per game, though, having seen a 6-0 victory for Schalke in 1984 and a 4-3 triumph for Darmstadt in 1989 – their only success in Gelsenkirchen in any competition .

GRAMMOZIS’S FIRST LOVE

Schalke boss Dimitrios Grammozis’s first job as a senior coach was with Darmstadt, overseeing 45 Bundesliga 2 games between February 2019 and June 2020. He earned a good 72 points from those games, guiding the Lilies to 10th in 2018/19 and fifth in 2019/20.

WATCH: ALL 11 TERODDE GOALS THIS SEASON

It was all the way back on Matchday 9 that Simon Terodde equalled Dieter Schatzschneider’s record of 153 goals in Bundesliga 2, but he’s failed to add to that total since, having gone three games and seven shots without putting away what would be the record-setting 154th.

THE FORM SIDE

Darmstadt’s 10 points from the four matchdays in October was the joint most in Bundesliga 2. They also scored 12 and conceded just two as they went from 12th up to sixth place, which is their best position so far this season. They face a tough run of games up to the winter break, though, including against all of the current top four.

WATCH: ALL SET IN THE SCHALKE CHANGING ROOM

DARMSTADT TEAM NEWS

As for the Lilies, Torsten Lieberknecht makes just one personnel change as Klaus Gjasula returns after three games out. He’s in for Emir Karic, which means Fabian Holland drops back to the left of defence.

SCHALKE TEAM NEWS

Dimitrios Grammozis is yet to name the same XI in consecutive games and today makes two changes from last Friday’s late defeat at Heidenheim as Mehmet Aydin replaces Reinhold Ranftl at right wing-back and Dominik Drexler comes in for Rodrigo Zalazar in attacking midfield. The good news in Gelsenkirchen is that Salif Sane is back in the squad for the first time in almost six months.
