GLATZEL!

Another big chance for HSV and Glatzel. Another header, this time with far more power at the back post, but Pavlenka is equal to it and pushes to safety. But the ball keeps coming back...

IN THE NET!

Heuer Fernandes is playing in the Bremen half now and plays a brilliant diagonal ball through to Kittel going in behind. He volleys across, it takes a touch and Wintzheimer tucks it away, but the flag had gone up. Correctly so.

SOME OF THE BEST

HSV GET ONE BACK!

That's silenced the away fans and set us up for a huge finish to this thrilling Nordderby. HSV get into the box down the right and Kinsombi fizzes the ball across goal. Glatzel gets in ahead of his marker and turns the ball in off the post. Game on with 10 to go!

DUCKSCH AGAIN!

A two-goal advantage for the visitors and league leaders-to-be. Jatta loses the ball in his own half and Jung crosses from the left. Rapp is picked out in the area but can't get a shot away, so lays it back to Ducksch on the edge of the D and he picks out the bottom corner out of the reach of Heuer Fernandes.

GRANDSTAND FINISH TO COME?

Hamburg have scored 13 times in the final quarter of an hour this season. That's the most in the division. But Werder have also scored 12 themselves.

HEYER!

The hosts suddenly turn that possession into danger as Heyer gets a shot away from inside the box, which Pavlenka can only parry. Lucky for him it misses the lurking red shorts.

HSV IMMEDIATELY LEVEL!

Barely a minute gone and the hosts have struck back. Glatzel turns on the edge of the box and shoots. It takes a slight touch through to Meffert lurking on the last man. He takes a touch and finishes, but is left hanging as VAR check for a possible offside before the goal is finally awarded.

AS IT STANDS

Bremen are going top - a point ahead of Darmstadt and Pauli - if the result stays this way. Hamburg would slip to fourth, level on points with Schalke in fifth. But they'd be four points behind Werder and three off Pauli - it has the potential to be a horrible afternoon for HSV supporters if they don't turn this around.

DENIED AGAIN!

So easily could be three for Bremen if not for the HSV goalkeeper. Ducksch is in again, this time running from deep. He's too fast to be caught and has time to pick his spot. He opts for the lob but Heuer Fernandes reads him like a book, staying up and catching.
30'

HEUER FERNANDES DENIES!

Should be 2-0 for Bremen as the hosts lose the ball deep in their own half and Ducksch is in behind on the left. He squares for Bittencourt arriving, who gets there ahead of Schonlau, but a brilliant reaction stop from Heuer Fernandes, up high to his right, prevents a certain second.

OLE’S AT THE WHEEL

Werner certainly is proving his potential and the 33-year-old has had an enormous impact since taking the helm at the start of December. Werder had won just once in six games and sat 10th when Ole took the wheel. He’s reset their course in some style since, winning seven on the spin until last weekend’s draw with Ingolstadt as Bremen soared into first going into MD24. Victory today would also see Bremen win five away games in a row for the first time in professional football.

FORMER COLLEAGUES

Walter and Werner previously worked together at Holstein Kiel, where Werner eventually took up his first senior coaching gig by succeeding Walter. The latter spoke fondly of their time together in the build-up: “We always had a very good exchange. I value him as a person and as a football coach. At the moment, he is proving his potential.”

“BIGGEST GAME IN THE REGION”

Werder boss Ole Werner has also been speaking ahead of the derby and said this week: “The excitement has been there from day one. I’m really looking forward to it. Werder vs. HSV is the biggest game in the region, between two big cities & two clubs with a lot of history. We’re hoping to take all three points back to Bremen.”

“THIS DUEL HAS A GREAT HISTORY”

With so much history and so much to play for, HSV boss Tim Walter has cut an excited figure ahead of the derby. “Both have great tradition and therefore this duel has a great history,” he told media. “But we want to get away from that. We try to continue our way. We are looking forward to this game and are focused.”

ALL TO PLAY FOR

This is not just any Nordderby. Host Hamburg sit fourth on 41 points, while visitors Werder - who started the weekend top - are a point better off in third. So not only are local bragging rights up for grabs but a win for either side would also take them to the summit. Werder went top for the first time this season last matchday. HSV haven't led the Bundesliga 2 table since Matchday 22 of last year.

WATCH: HSV WON THE REVERSE 2-0

For all of Werder’s overall dominance, it was HSV that won the season’s previous meeting 2-0 thanks to goals from Robert Glatzel and Moritz Heyer.

THE DERBY OF THE NORTH

This will be the 144th Norderby in a storied history between these two sides. The first time it was played out on the national stage was back in the Bundesliga's inaugural season in 1963/64 when Arnold ‘Pico’ Schütz (pictured left with Uwe Seeler) hit a hat-trick in a 4-2 Werder win. It’s the Bremen side that edge the derby with 57 wins to Hamburg’s 46, while there have been 40 draws.

WERDER TEAM NEWS

Ole Werner has been very consistent in team selection as well since he took over eight games ago. He opts for just one change from the draw with Ingolstadt as Leonardo Bittencourt returns from suspension. Nicolai Rapp is the man to make way.

HSV TEAM NEWS

Tim Walter names the same starting XI for the third straight game after the 2-0 win against Heidenheim and last week’s 1-1 draw at Sandhausen. There’s also a minor milestone for Ludovit Reis as the midfielder makes his 50th Bundesliga 2 appearance (23 for HSV and 27 for Osnabrück)
