LAUTERN HAVE DONE IT!

It was a veritable game of two halves this evening. Düsseldorf dominated the first period and deservedly went in front through a brilliant goal from Karbownik, but Kaiserslautern looked a completely different team after half-time, attacking with purpose and aggression. Kraus equalised from a corner before Klement's stoppage-time penalty earned the visitors all three points!

KLEMENT WINS IT SURELY!

LUTHE TO THE RESCUE!

A deep free-kick from the right isn't properly cleared and the ball falls kindly for Klaus, whose well-struck volley from 16 yards out is acrobatically tipped over by Luth.

HENDRIX TAKING MATTERS INTO HIS OWN HANDS

Both teams are looking for a late winner here and Hendrix seems determined to make sure he's the one to get it. Receiving the ball just outside the area he dribbles forward at pace and gets a shot away, but it's blocked before it gets anywhere near the goal.!

BOYD DOWN

The Lautern talisman is in some discomfort after seemingly twisting his ankle in a challenge. He limps off the pitch and is replaced by Lobinger.

KLEMENT HAS A GO

A direct free-kick, about 40 yards out. It's an ambitious effort and Klement strikes it well but the accuracy is lacking.

ATTACKING CHANGE

Can Klement provide the spark to unlock the Fortuna defence once again?

NEVER WRITE OFF LAUTERN

If this result holds, it will be the eighth time this season that they have earned at least a point after conceding the first goal of the game.

KOWNACKI GOES CLOSE

A cross from the left finds Kownacki, whose header seems destined for the bottom corner until Luthe produces another big stop.
61'

MUCH IMPROVED

The visitors have had five shots already in this half, compare to just one before the break. Fortuna have only managed one attempt at goal since the restart.
59'

SUPERB FROM OPOKU

A cross from the right is lofted into the box to Opoku, who executes a brilliant volley on the turn that Luthe does well to save - with Boyd just unable to get to the rebound. It wouldn't have counted as the flag goes up for offside, but it was another find attacking move from Lautern in this half.

BIG SAVE FROM KASTENMEIER!

Ritter receives the ball on the edge of the box and his deflected shot bobbles up, forcing the Fortuna goalkeeper to make a fine reflex save.

THE EQUALISER!

DESERVED LEAD

Fortuna have been the better team throughout, pressing their visitors high up the pitch, looking to score at every opportunity and also defending aggressively. The 1-0 lead still gives Kaiserslautern some hope going into the second half, but they'll need to improve considerably if they are to take anything from this game.

SOBOTTKA MUST SCORE!

Luthe makes a mistake when trying to play the ball out from the back, selling a teammate short and allowing Sobottka to nip in and nab the ball from him. The midfielder charges into the box and only has Luthe to beat, but slides the ball wide of the post!

FAIR REFLECTION

information
xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
Düsseldorf have been the better team and created more chances. Plenty of room for improvement for the visitors in terms of their attacking play.

FIRST GLIMPSE

It's taken 37 minutes but finally Lautern have given the Fortuna defenders something to think about. Redondo jinks into the box, drawing a couple of opponents towards him, but he can't get the ball away to a teammate before he's corwded out.

HOPE FOR LAUTERN

The visitors have fallen behind four times in away games already this season - and they haven't lost any of them.

UNPREDICTABLE

Karbownik is the 13th different Düsseldorf player to find the net this season - no other team in the division has as many different goalscorers this term.

MORE OF THE SAME

Fortuna are still bossing the ball and keeping it in Lautern's half for the most part. The visitors are looking very compact though and it will take something special - like that effort from Karbownik - to breach them again.

BOYD IN THE POCKET - SO FAR

Lautern's 14-time USA international hasn't had much service so far, but when he has he's generally been unceremoniously dumped off the ball by Oberdorf. Boyd does have eight goals this season though, so he's always a danger.

LAUTERN STRUGGLING

The Red Devils - dressed all in blue today, confusingly - haven't really got into the game yet and haven't managed to cause their hosts any headaches. Schad's miscontrol of a routine ball on the left just now symbolic of their nerves at the moment.

BRILLIANT OPENER!

A free-kick from the right is swung into the box and finds Klarer, whose header is well saved by Luthe. From the resulting corner, Klarer's centre-back partner Oberdorf has an even better chance to score from a flick-on, but can only direct his header into Luthe's arms with the goal at his mercy!

Fortuna coach Daniel Thioune has also been doing the rounds in front of the media. "We're up against a strong team away from home who bring a lot of support," he said. "They've played a really good Hinrunde as a promoted team. But it's our home game and our performances have been really good."

SCHUSTER: "WE HAVE A TASK AHEAD"

Visiting boss Dirk Schuster was speaking yesterday ahead of this final game of the Hinrunde, saying: “I'm happy about the 26 points. But we still have a task ahead of us and want to win in Düsseldorf so that we can end with a good first half of the season."

Fortuna had won three on the spin until slipping up in midweek, losing 2-0 at Hannover - the side that sit fourth as a result and have a target on their back that both tonight's teams are taking aim at.

LAST TIME OUT: LAUTERN BEAT KARLSRUHE

Lautern beat Karlsruhe 2-0 in midweek, stretching their unbeaten run to four matches (W3, D1). Terrence Boyd hit his eighth league goal of the campaign in that victory, with Kenny Prince Redondo also on target late on.

WHO WILL TAKE FOURTH?

Tonight's opponents start the evening level on points, with the hosts sixth - one place above their visitors thanks to a superior goal difference. A draw would see both shift up two spots, while they can each take fourth with a victory.
