WARMING UP!

Torino loanee Magnus Warming goes within inches of a third goal. He curts inside, and bends just wide of the far post.
79'

GLATZEL AGAIN!

A deflected cross from the right finds the feet of Glatzel near the penalty spot. He connects first time, but can't keep the shot down. He normally buries those!
78'

RETURN OF THE BAK

Bakery Jatta makes his return from injury, Walter going all-out attack in the closing stages. Risk vs. reward - we'll have to see...
76'

OVER!

Glatzel's first real sight of goal, but his header from Benes's corner whistles over.
74'

LILLIES IN FULL BLOOM

Darmstadt continue to play with real confidence on the ball. They really don't look like throwing this one away.
68'

NO PENALTY

Glatzel races into the box, before going down under a robust shoulder barge. However, the flag had already gone up for offside against the HSV striker. It's just not his day...
64'

RED CARD!

And now Hamburg are down to 10 men! Opoku gets in a tangle as he attempts to break clear, the HSV man taking exception to Holland - already on the deck - tugging at his shorts. He kicks out at the Darmstadt defender, and can have no complaints. You cannot get away with that in football.
59'

RED CARD!

Darmstadt are reduced to 10 men as Gjasula collects his second yellow card after catching the ankle of Glatzel. HSV onslaught incoming...
57'

DENIED!

Hamburg's best chance yet as Glatzel finds Königsdörffer in the box. The ball ends up at the feet of Kittel, but Schuhen blocks his close-range shot from a tight angle. Brilliant goalkeeping!
54'

NOT FAR AWAY!

Darmstadt counter with Manu. He cuts into the box off the left-hand side and stands up Vuskovic, but his evrntual shot is wide of the far post. Right idea.
50'

CHANCE!

Heyer cannot live with Tietz, who rises highest in the box to force a strong save out of Heuer Fernandes.

DOMPE DEBUT

Can HSV's new signing spark a comeback? Rohr makes way as the second half kicks off.

DARMSTADT IN CHARGE

The Lilies are good value for their half-time lead. They've been far better than HSV and, as things stand, are heading top of the table, overnight at least.
44'

BIG CHANCE!

Darmstadt carve open HSV once more on the counter as the ball's worked over to Manu on the edge of the area. He cushions it back for a shot that's charged down and falls kindly for Tietz, who doesn't catch it cleanly and can only shoot tamely a Heuer Fernandes. A bit more power and precision, and that would have been a goal. Let-off for Hamburg.
42'

HEYER, WIDE AND NOT SO HANDSOME

Hamburg work it really well. They have men in the middle, but Heyer's delivery from the corner of the Darmstadt area is neither cross nor shot, and sails harmlessly over. Chance wasted.
38'

DENIED!

A ball drops for Rohr in the Darmstadt box, but Pfeiffer gets int the way to deny a clear goal-scoring opporunity. Brilliant from the ex-HSV youngster.
32'

MANU!

Darmstadt go straight up the other end with Manu. He takes aim from distance, forcing Heuer Fernandes into evasive action. HSV are all over the shop defensively.
31'

CLOSE!

Sonny Kittel is not far away with a free-kick from 20 yards. His effort has Schuhen worried, but sails just over.

PROBING

Another right-wing cross into the area causes problems for Hamburg. Tietz is lurking, but Heyer is able to guide it back to Heuer Fernandes.
21'

CHANCE!

Mehlem with an inviting ball into the six-yard box. Tietz is first to it, but Heuer Fernandes makes the stop. Darmstadt look capable of scoring whenever they go forward.
16'

SNIFF OF GOAL

Glatzel collects in the Darmstadt area and holds off his man, before firing goalwards. It's a difficult angle, though, and an easy save for Schuhen in the end.

The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).

DARMSTADT DOUBLE UP!

Incredible! Darmstadt hit HSV on the counter, but Manu's cross is overcooked and, in the eyes of the Hamburg defenders, harmless. The ball's picked up by an opposition player and squared to Tobias Kempe, who arrows in a low shot from the edge of the area. There's a ruck of shirts in front of goal, including Tietz, who stoops to divert the flightpath and take it past Heuer Fernandes. A lengthy VAR check follows, but Schonlau is playing the Darmstadt striker onside.

EARLY QUESTION ANSWERED

Darmstadt go on the attack with a ball from deep out wide to Holland. He lashes a volleyed pass into the danger zone, but HSV are able to clear.

TEAMS OUT

Hamburg are in white with blue and black trim. Darmstadt take to the field in their two-tone blue number.

HUGE CROWD

The decibel levels are through the roof at the Volksparkstadion. It's really no wonder so many observers think HSV belong in the Bundesliga.

JEAN-LUC WHO?

Hamburg have a fresh face on the bench in Jean-Luc Dompe, who completed his move to the club just yesterday. The French winger makes the switch from Belgium's Zulte Waregem, where he made 73 appearances, producing eight goals and 21 assists. "I'm really happy to be at HSV and to play for this great club, especially as the people in charge and the coach have made it very clear to me that they really want me," Dompe told the club's website. "I'm just happy and will give my best from day one. I want to be on the pitch as soon as possible."

H2H RECORD

The pair have met eight times in BL2: Darmstadt have two wins to Hamburg's three. Darmstadt's last victory in the fixture came with a 2-1 triumph in Hamburg on Matchday 28 of the 2020/21 season.

WATCH: THE GLATZEL SHOW

Darmstadt lost 5-0 at home to HSV last season in a game in which Robert Glatzel netted a hat-trick inside the opening 13 minutes.

MORE ON THOSE TEAMS

HSV are unchanged from the team that won in Bielefeld. As for Darmstadt, Christoph Zimmermann did not make the trip because he and his wife became parents for the second time yesterday. Patric Pfeiffer comes into the defence in his stead.

LIEBERKNECHT'S VIEW

"HSV don't feel like a Bundesliga 2 team. They belong in the Bundesliga, and I think they'll do it this season. We're looking forward to it, and it's a privilege for us to go and play in Hamburg. HSV like to keep the ball and use their pace on the flanks, but they've had problems defending counters of late. We need to play with intensity and be switched on."

TIM WALTER'S VIEW

"In the last two games we have done a lot of things very well, but there's still room for improvement. We can be even more consistent, and better in the transition. Darmstadt will be a tough nut to crack, but we're looking forward to the challenge and, as ever, are out to win."

NEUER FERNANDES

HSV have only conceded once in four league games, with Daniel Heuer Fernandes repelling 94 per cent of shots on his goal (16 of 17).

WATCH: BIELEFELD 0-2 HAMBURG

Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer was on target as HSV made it three wins from four last time out.

WELCOME!

Hamburg and Darmstadt - promotion rivals separated by just a point in third and fourth last season - and locked on nine points four matches into 2022/23. You don't want to miss this one...
