That's it ! HSV are up to provisional second in the standings following a hard-fought win against Karlsruher, who drop to ninth place. Reis's first-half magic trick is a worthy winner of a contest in which both sides had their chances.

GLATZEL SITTER MISSED

Glatzel, me oh my. Jatta squares from the right, putting the ball on a plate for his teammate. The forward lets it run across his body and shanks wide from point-blank range. That was game, set and match right there.

KITTEL REPLACED

Plenty of home applause for Kittel as he makes way for Benes with 15 minutes to go.

GLATZEL OFF TARGET

Glatzel is almost in twice. The forward had strayed inches offside before blasting over while he came closer to netting from a legal position moments later.

VISITORS ON THE UP

Christian Eichner's men are having a moment here. Wanitzek draws a fine stop from Heuer Fernandes in the Hamburg goal. The HSV shot stopper has been in solid form tonight.
55'

KARLSRUHER BREAK

Karlsruher counter through Gondorf, who feeds Wanitzek. The visitors' No.10 has time to shape and shoot, however, his effort is deflected wide. The subsequent corner comes to nothing.

JATTA SIGHTER

Jatta breaks through on the right and enters the area before cutting inside and firing at goals from an angle. Gersbeck parries the ball over the top.

HAMBURG OMEN

REIS GOAL KEY

The ref signals the end of a very entertaining first half. Both sides had several good chances in the opening 45 minutes, but Reis taking matters into his own hands has led to Hamburg leading.

HAMBURG LEAD !

What is this? Reis picks up possession wide on the right. Surely this will end up as a cross. Reis has a look and drifts across, then a little more. He eventually comes so far that he may as well shoot, which he does, and the ball flies into the corner. Mesmeric!

EAGLE-EYED DOMPE

A free kick into the Karlsruher area and it looks like there might be a handful of HSV players offside. Dompe isn't bothered by that as he keeps his concentration following a run from in behind. He controls and then sees his shot blocked wide.
36'

ONE MORE CHANCE

Schleusener races into the area, gets ahead of his marker, slides for the pass and prods inches wide. Karlsruher could, and probably should be leading here.

ALL SQUARE

This has been a very entertaining battle thus far, with both sides spurning chances to hit the front. Impossible to predict which way this one will go.
31'

HUGE CHANCE !

What a chance! Jatta races onto the a through pass and suddenly sees Marius Gersbeck is way off his line. The Hamburg man tries to push the ball wide to open up a shot at the empty goal but he just can't quite get it right and his effort eventually flies wide.

The ball is rolling in Hamburg ....
Kick-off!

ALL SET FOR THE OFF

The teams are lining up and we're all set to go here in what is set to be a spectacular encounter in Germany's second tier.

ON A ROLL

With 10 points from a possible 18, Karlsruhe have made their best start to a Bundesliga 2 campaign for eight years. Christian Eichner's side have scored 11 and conceded just two goals in their last three games alone, and have won as many times in that period as they did in their previous 20 league assignments.

WHO IS WILLIAM MIKELBRENCIS?

William Mikelbrencis joined Hamburg from Metz on deadline day. The France U18 right-back has signed a four-year deal. "William caught our eye last season, when he made a splash in Ligue 1. He'll need some time to settle in, but we expect him to play a part this season - not just in the future," explained HSV board member Jonas Bold.

HOME WOBBLES

"We have been more successful away from home so far, but we want to replicate that at home," said HSV coach Tim Walter, whose team have won one and lost two at the Volksparkstadion this term. "We want to be wide awake from the start, full of confidence and full of energy, and we want to play the football we stand for."

WATCH: NUREMBERG 0-2 HAMBURG

Tim Walter's Hamburg bounced back from defeat to Darmstadt with a win in Nuremberg, Mario Vuskovic's first-half volley and a late Robert Glatzel goal proved the difference in a keenly fought encounter.

WELCOME!

Hamburg resume their promotion push at home to Karlsruhe. The Red Shorts have won four and lost two so far this season, but could end the weekend in first place if results go their way. Karlsruhe are only two points behind HSV in a very competitive second tier. Stay tuned!
