Madness in Karlsruhe. The Georgian turns the game around with his third goal. Again the striker is played in low from the wing. Zivzivadze controls the ball with his back to goal, turns and finishes into the far corner.

Crosses a rarity
Klose's team has not had a single headed shot at goal yet and has only put in three crosses so far (compared to 11 Karlsruhe crosses already). The home side are now piling on the pressure - without creating clear-cut chances

Picks scores 5th goal
For new signing Florian Pick it was his 5th Bundesliga 2 goal (in his 78th match); in the last Bundesliga season the 28-year old had not scored a single goal for 1. FC Heidenheim.
32'
Nuremberg increases lead
Nuremberg punish Karlsruhe's ineffectiveness again. Pick carries the ball down the left, passes and bursts into the penalty area. The ex-Heidenheim player gets the ball back and finishes with a toe poke through a defender's legs into the goal.
28'
Second big chance for Schleusener
Nuremberg's keeper Reichert plays a hospital pass in the buildup which Flick cannot control. Schleusener gets to the ball and shoots - but the ball is cleared off the line.

Period of calm
After the opening goal, the pace of the match has calmed down for now.

Okunuki ends goalless run
Kanji Okunuki scores for the first time in the calendar year 2024; the Japanese had last scored one of his only three goals this season 2023/24 on 11 November 2023 (in the 3-1 win in Paderborn). For Okunaki, a run of 17 goalless Bundesliga 2 games came to an end.

Klose's men lead
If you don't take your chances up front, you get punished at the back. Okunuki scores during Karlsruhe's period of pressure. After Soares wins the ball, Schleimer cleverly plays the ball through towards the penalty area. The Japanese player rounds the goalkeeper and slots the ball into the empty net.
16'
Chance!
Burnic makes his way down the right to the goal line and puts in a low cross to the centre, Schleusener smashes it against the crossbar from six yards.
14'
First shot
That was brilliantly played. Zivzivadze makes a run into space and is sent through with a chipped ball from the left over the Nuremberg defensive line. The striker brings the ball down superbly and shoots from the left inside the box. The ball whistles just over.
11'
First approach
KSC win the ball back through counter-pressing and subsequently pass the ball around towards the penalty area through several players - but fail to get a shot away. The spectators are still waiting for the first shot on goal.

Dangerous free kick
Pick wins a free kick on the left wing. Danilo Soares takes it and Knoche gets a dangerous shot away. But it would have been a close offside.

Experience as an asset?
After five minutes there haven't been any goal attempts, so here's a statistic: Karlsruhe's starting line-up has clearly the upper hand over Nuremberg's when it comes to the number of Bundesliga 2 games (1130 vs. 502) and Bundesliga 2 goals scored (119 vs. 26).

Starting line-up: Karlsruher SC
A surprise, a returnee
Fabian Schleusener is in Karlsruhe's starting XI for the first time in the 2024 calendar year. The last time he started was at the beginning of December 2023 in a 2-2 home draw against Hansa Rostock. Leon Jensen missed the last four games of the 2023/24 season due to surgery on his eardrum; now the 27-year-old Karlsruhe midfielder is back.
New quartet for Klose
New manager Miroslav Klose starts four new signings in his first Bundesliga 2 match: Robin Knoche (Union Berlin), Danilo Soares (VfL Bochum), Florian Pick (1. FC Heidenheim) and Caspar Jander (MSV Duisburg) are in the starting eleven.
KSC replaces three departures
KSC have only one new signing in the starting XI today and three changes to the last match of the 2023/24 season overall (3:0 win at Elversberg); Lasse Günther (on loan from FC Augsburg), Leon Jensen and Fabian Schleusener are playing instead of the departed Philip Heise (Dynamo Dresden), Paul Nebel (1. FSV Mainz 05) and Igor Matanovic (Eintracht Frankfurt).

What Christian Eichner says
"It's time for Saturday 1:00 pm! We want to fight for points again! The team will make a good impression and we will see a team that is still worth cheering for."
Karlsruhe's fortress
The home side will look to continue their impressive home form from last season, which saw them lose just three times at the BBBank Wildpark.
Taking the next step
Miroslav Klose and his Nuremberg side will be looking for a big improvement on last season's 12th place finish, while Karlsruhe will look to close the gap on the sides above them and put themselves in the conversation for promotion to the Bundesliga again, following last season's 5th place finish.
