Hamburg eye top spot

A win in Braunschweig would put Hamburg at the top of the table, at least for tonight.

Three changes

Key Hamburg players Sebastian Schonlau and Jonas Meffert return to the starting eleven after serving their suspensions with Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer also back in the line-up. Moritz Heyer, Lukasz Poreba and the injured Ludovit Reis are the players making way.

One change for the hosts

After the goalless draw in Paderborn, Daniel Scherning makes one change to his team. Szabó starts in place of Christian Conteh.

Hamburg starting XI

Heuer Fernandes - Perrin, Schonlau, Muheim - Katterbach, Elfadli, Meffert, Dompé - Karabec - Selke, Königsdörffer

Braunschweig starting XI

Johansson - Jaeckel, Bičakčić, Ehlers - Kaufmann, Krauße, Köhler, Bell Bell - Gómez - Szabó, Philippe

Daniel Scherning on Hamburg

"They have a lot of individual quality. They have a very experienced coach who also wants to return to the Bundesliga with this club and, in my opinion, has a good chance of achieving that. There are many strengths, but certainly also one or two weaknesses that open up spaces that you can and must exploit tomorrow to be successful. We're playing at home, the floodlights will be switched on, the tension will be palpable. You will feel it."

Steffen Baumgart on Braunschweig

"Eintracht has a very strong team in terms of tackling, with their greatest strength being in quick counter-attacks. Braunschweig have had the most shots on goal from counter-attacks, but we haven't conceded a single goal from counters this season. We'd like to keep it that way. Because experience shows you don't get promoted from Bundesliga 2 by scoring the most goals, but by conceding the fewest. We need this stability."

Historic rivalry

These two traditional clubs have faced each other 42 times in the Bundesliga, but this is only their seventh encounter in Bundesliga 2. HSV have won all six previous second-tier meetings, scoring a total of 20 goals in the process.

Bogey team

Braunschweig have played against no other team in Bundesliga 2 so often without earning a single point as they have against HSV, who are also the only current second-division team that Eintracht have failed to gain points against. Hamburg have even won all of their last seven competitive matches against Braunschweig. Their last success dates back to February 2014. In that 4-2 home victory - then in the Bundesliga - Domi Kumbela scored a hat-trick.

Former dream duo

Daniel Scherning was Steffen Baumgart's assistant manager at Paderborn for over four years. Together they led the East Westphalian club from the third tier to the Bundesliga.
