43'

Half shot, half cross

Klaus finds some space at the right of the penalty area. The experienced player curls the ball towards the far post, where a sliding Pejčinović fails to get there and meet it in time. The ball goes behind for a goal kick.
41'

Cheeky from Baum

The right-back is playing very high up again today. This time he sees that Kastenmeier has come out a bit too far and tries to curl the ball goalwards from the touchline. However, the attempt doesn't really pose much danger in the end.
38'

Crossbar!

Elversberg are now pushing for the lead. Asllani gets past several opponents, moves into the penalty area and then smashes the ball against the crossbar. A lucky escape for Fortuna...
37'

Nearly an own goal

Elversberg whip in a low cross from the left into the penalty area. Damar doesn't block it, Oberdorf attempts to clear but does so towards his own goal. Kastenmeier is helpless and can only stand and watch as the ball bounces past the right post.
33'

Dangerous!

Düsseldorf capitalise on a misplaced pass in Elversberg's build-up play. Pejčinović sends Schmidt through, whose shot is just wide of Kristof's goal from about 11 metres out.
32'

19'

Elversberg now picking up the pace

Elversberg work a four-on-four situation well, but Zimmerschied is put off just enough before his shot to allow Kastenmeier to make an easy save.
17'

Klaus counters

After winning the ball, the home side try to play out quickly. Klaus pushes forward on the right flank, but Elversberg work hard to track back and intercept the ball again.
15'

Teams cancelling each other out

The game is currently being played exclusively in the midfield. Düsseldorf have more possession, but the visitors are staying compact at the back.
11'

Attempt on goal

Elversburg earn the first two corners of the match. However, nothing comes of them beyond a deflected shot from outside the box.
7'

A dangerous first corner

The set-piece bounces through the Elversberg penalty area before reaching the far post, where Pejčinović attempts a diving header but misses the goal by mere centimetres.
5'

Powerful start

Düsseldorf is pressing high up the pitch, while Elversberg is initially trying to calmly circulate the ball through their own ranks.

The calm before the storm

Düsseldorf and Elversberg are about to battle for three points here.

Chances for Schmidt and Pejčinović

Schmidt is in Fortuna's starting line-up for the first time since the 2-2 draw against Köln on matchday 6. Pejčinović is making his starting eleven debut, having previously made only five substitute appearances.

Elversberg unchanged

Coach Horst Steffen sends out the same starting eleven that began in the 3-1 home victory against Hannover on the last matchday. Steffen is not a fan of rotation; in fact, this is the fifth time this season he has started with the same initial formation as on the previous matchday.

Two changes for the hosts

Fortuna manager Daniel Thioune makes two changes to his starting lineup compared to the last match (1-1 home draw against Paderborn): Schmidt and Pejčinović start, while Lunddal Fridriksson and Vermeij move to the bench.

This is how Elversberg lines up

Kristof - Baum, Pinckert, Rohr, Neubauer - Sickinger, Schmahl - Feil, Damar, Zimmerschied - Asllani

The Düsseldorf starting eleven

Kastenmeier - Zimmermann, Hoffmann (c), Oberdorf, Iyoha - Sobottka - Klaus, Jóhannesson, Schmidt, Rossmann - Pejčinović

Daniel Thioune's view on Elversberg

"Something has grown at Elversberg. I think Horst Steffen is doing a great job there. Against HSV, cologne and Hannover, they've shown that they can compete on equal terms with the top clubs in the league. Many young players have the opportunity to showcase themselves there. That's what distinguishes them. And they demonstrate week after week that they can play football."

Horst Steffen's view on Fortuna

"You can see week after week how strong the opponent is, even if the recent results haven't been as good as Fortuna had hoped. This team has physicality, but also creativity and football intelligence. They have a lot of quality and can choose formations and arrangements that are always different and adapted to the opponent to find solutions."

Elversberg's absentees

Elversberg will be without Frederik Jäkel (lack of fitness following cruciate ligament rupture), Florian Le Joncour (elbow injury), Patryk Dragon (lack of match fitness), Semih Sahin (calf problems), Luca Schnellbacher (medial ligament injury)

Fortuna's absentees

Dawid Kownacki (medial ligament injury) and Jamil Siebert (knee problems) have returned to the training pitch and could be in the squad. For Giovanni Haag (ankle problems), he likely won't be ready for Saturday.

All of Fortuna's goals so far this season

Elversberg strong again

After the defeat in Regensburg, Elversberg made an impressive comeback with a 3-1 victory against Hannover, who had at least entered Matchday 13 as leaders.

Düsseldorf winless in three

On the last matchday, Fortuna managed to secure at least a 1-1 draw against Paderborn with a very late goal, but before that, there were defeats in Münster and against Kaiserslautern.

Steffen homecoming

Elversberg's Horst Steffen was born in Meerbusch, just outside Düsseldorf. He played for years in the region for Uerdingen, Mönchengladbach and Duisburg (207 Bundesliga matches), but never for Fortuna Düsseldorf.

Time together in the Regional League

Further competitive matches between the two clubs only occurred in the 1999/00 season in the then third-tier Regional League West/Southwest.

The last encounter

In the reverse fixture at the Merkur Spielarena, the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

A record for Thioune

Under Daniel Thioune, the Rhinelanders have never won by a larger margin than that 5-0 away victory.

Bad memories

Düsseldorf inflicted Elversberg's heaviest defeat in the Bundesliga 2: On Matchday 4 last season, Fortuna won 5-0 in Saarland (they also lost 5-0 in Braunschweig).
