Magdeburg the fair victors
El Hankouri's heel goal is enough for Magdeburg to secure an away win. For long stretches of the match, the visitors were the more mature side, so the win is certainly deserved. Regensburg had a great chance to equalise through a somewhat fortunate penalty. However, Viet squandered this opportunity. In the end, the 1-0 for FCM is probably the fair result.

One Against All
Magdeburg are looking to secure the three points, focusing on counter-attacks and sitting deeper. After winning the ball, striker Kaars charges forward with it, but has five Regensburg players in front of him. He manages to hold onto the ball until just outside the penalty area, where he is fairly dispossessed.

Half-time at the Jahnstadion
Magdeburg have had everything under control for long stretches of the first half and deservedly lead through El Hankouri's flicked effort. It was only towards the end of the half that Regensburg became more active in attack and should have really rewarded themselves through Hein. It remains finely poised for the second 45.

Wurm stops Kaars
And just in the nick of time in front of the penalty area! Kaars would likely have been through on goal after a through ball. That was on the verge of being a professional foul!

Too imprecise
Magdeburg come dangerously forward again. This time Nollenberger crosses from the right side, but his cross fails to find the completely unmarked Burcu at the far post.

El Hankouri keeps shining
The goal scorer is really turning it on now. He's consistently showcasing tricks and beautiful dribbles following the opener. Brimming with confidence.

El Hankouri spins for early opener
El Hankouri initiates the attack himself and swiftly drives the ball forward through midfield. He then plays it out to Loric, who in turn serves him with a sharp cross in front of goal. Just outside the six-yard box, he then flicks the ball with his heel while turning, past the grasp of a helpless Gebhardt and into the net! Brilliant goal!

Good opening phase
FCM are bossing the game in these first few minutes. There is a clear focus on the left flank. Burcu has the ball on the byline in the penalty area, but his cross doesn't find a teammate. Regensburg defence manages to clear.

First Yellow
Burcu pushes his opponent when the game was actually at a standstill, the referee doesn't take kindly to that and shows the game's first yellow.

Christian Titz on Regensburg
"Regensburg is a team that tries to remain stable at the back and allow little, then look for their chances in counter-attacking situations. They have players with second-tier experience in their ranks. We will not underestimate the opponent"
Patz becomes head coach
Regensburg announced Andreas Patz's appointment as head coach until June 2025. Patz joined Regensburg as assistant coach in the summer of 2023. After parting ways with Joe Enochs, he took over the role of interim manager at the end of October following the league match against Nürnberg. Two wins and one loss later, Patz now has the top job.
What Andreas Patz says
"Magdeburg is a team with strong playing ability that identifies itself through ball possession and has the highest average in the league in that regard. They are the team with the most sprints and play the second-most passes. It's a real tough challenge that's coming our way."
Magdeburg's absentees
Magdeburg are missing Jean Hugonet (suspended due to yellow cards), Lubambo Musonda (adductor injury), Baris Atik (foot injury), Herbert Bockhorn (cruciate ligament rupture) and Emir Kuhinja (cruciate ligament rupture).
Regensburg's missing men
Regensburg will be without Dejan Galjen (suspended due to red card), Christian Schmidt (cruciate ligament injury), Max Meyer (broken ankle), Benedikt Saller (adductor problems), Florian Ballas (muscular issues) and Oscar Schönfelder (cruciate ligament injury).
Magdeburg winless in five
Recently, Magdeburg drew 0-0 at home against Ulm, and before that, they drew 2-2 away at Kaiserslautern. Prior to that, they suffered two defeats against Hannover and at HSV, as well as another draw against Fürth.
Setback for Regensburg
Regensburg lost 2-0 at Schalke on the last matchday, coming after after a 1-0 victory against Elversberg and another 1-0 win in the DFB Cup against Fürth.
There's a caveat...
On 23 September 2018, Titz suffered a 5-0 home defeat against Jahn Regensburg as manager of Hamburg.
