Full-time: Elversberg 1-4 Schalke

Schalke win their away match against the league leaders after proving significantly more effective in the second half. The away victory is deserved, even by this margin. Elversberg looked set to hit back after scoring the equaliser, but the hosts lacked the cutting edge to capitalise.

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
Schalke's clinical finishing has seen them outshoot their xGoals rating by a huge margin!

Sylla bags a brace!

Brilliant move from Schalke! The ball moves through the attack with one-touch passing, then it's played out to Gantenbein on the right. He whips in a dangerous cross and Sylla, in true striker fashion, flicks it on at the near post into the far corner!

How will Elversberg respond?

The two-goal deficit seems to be a real shock for the home side. In the last few minutes, very little has been coming together for them. However, there's still plenty of time on the clock for a comeback.

Elversberg error ruthlessly punished!

Petkov makes a misplaced pass during build-up play, and the visitors immediately pounce. Karaman gets the ball on the left side of the penalty area, keeps his composure and plays a mid-height ball to Schallenberg, who only needs to get his head on it from close range to bury it!

The stage is set

The Waldstadion Kaiserlinde is ready to welcome the Royal Blues from the Ruhr area.

New Striker

Elversberg's squad will see an addition in January 2025: Younes Ebnoutalib. The 21-year-old centre-forward, who can also play on the left wing, has been playing for FC Gießen in the Regionalliga Südwest. He will sign a three-and-a-half-year contract with Kaiserlinde that will run through to summer 2028.

Horst Steffen on facing Schalke

"It will be an exciting game. Of course, we want it to be a nice farewell to the year - we want to play a good match in front of our home crowd and in a great atmosphere to keep the points at home. We're facing a very good opponent. Schalke are currently working very hard. They have good routines both in defence and attack, with plenty of pace in their game."

Kees van Wonderen on facing Elversberg

"We want to continue on the current path and finish the year with a win. We've worked well this week and can take the confidence with us to Elversberg. Elversberg don't have such great resources, yet they're top of the table. Their team wants to play football and has creative players. They don't panic when they lose a match, and they've won four of their last five games."

Old Acquaintances

Maurice Neubauer was German champion with Schalke's U19 team in 2015, and he was on the pitch during their final 3-1 victory against Julian Nagelsmann's Hoffenheim side.

Always the first goal

After two official matches - a 2-1 win and a 1-1 draw in Bundesliga 2 last season - Elversberg are yet to fall behind against Schalke.

Not defeated

Elversberg and Schalke met for the first time in a competitive match last season, with the Saarland side remaining unbeaten so far (2-1 away and 1-1 at home).
