Full-time: Fortuna 2-2 Darmstadt

Darmstadt started the match the more dominant side, but Düsseldorf managed to take control of the game more and more as the first half progressed. With a beautifully crafted goal from van Brederode, they went into the break with a deserved 1-0 lead. In the 61st minute, it was Haag who seemingly sealed the deal. But then came Corredor; with a brace within three minutes, he brought the hosts back into the game. Düsseldorf had to regroup, finding their way back into the match in the closing stages and were ultimately closer to scoring the winner. In the end, it was a hard-fought contest, with Fortuna likely to be frustrated at having let the game slip from their grasp at around the 70th minute.

Förster celebrates milestone

The 29-year-old Philipp Förster is making his 100th appearance in the Bundesliga 2 today (for Darmstadt, VfB Stuttgart and Sandhausen).

Potential for a first for Darmstadt

With a victory, the Lilies would overtake Düsseldorf and climb into the top half of the table for the first time this season. At one point, Darmstadt were 12 points behind Fortuna.

Suso back in the squad

Young talent Sima Suso is included in the Fortuna first-team squad for the first time in three months. The 19-year-old's only appearance this season came in the away fixture against Darmstadt, when he was brought on as a late substitute in the 2-0 victory.

Gavory's comeback

Düsseldorf's French left-back last played on Matchday 8 at the beginning of October in the 3-0 home defeat against Hamburg, in which he picked up an injury. Now he is fit again and makes his comeback, playing in place of Tim Rossmann, who is suspended due to two yellow cards last time out. Marcel Sobottka is also out of the starting eleven.

Unchanged Lilies

Darmstadt starts with the same starting lineup as in the last match before the winter break in the defeat at Regensburg.

Kwarteng to start immediately

Moritz-Broni Kwarteng, brought in as a replacement for Felix Klaus, who moved to Fürth, is immediately included in the starting lineup just four days after signing. Kwarteng made seven brief appearances for Bochum in the Bundesliga during the first half of the season. In his last season in the second division in 2022/23, he scored an impressive ten times for Magdeburg.

Darmstadt starting XI

Schuhen - Sergio López, Riedel, Vukotić, Nürnberger - Klefisch, Müller - Förster, Marseiler - Corredor, Hornby

Fortuna starting XI

Kastenmeier - Oberdorf, Hoffmann, Siebert - Fridriksson, Kwarteng, Haag, Gavory - Jóhannesson, van Brederode - Kownacki

Daniel Thioune on Darmstadt

"Darmstadt is a team that presses very high under Florian Kohfeldt. We already had to find solutions when facing a high press against Feyenoord, and we managed that well. In the transition, we weren't as clean then, which is why we created few scoring chances, but that has improved in recent days. With Kohfeldt there, Darmstadt is in with a promotion shout. They score many goals and are physically extremely strong. We have to stand up to that. I'm looking forward to the match because one of the best teams of recent weeks and months is coming our way."

Florian Kohfeldt on facing Düsseldorf

"Düsseldorf want to focus on their strengths, which are their counter-attacking and their compactness when defending. They play in a focused and mature manner, but we've also shown that we're capable of finding solutions against any team in the league."

Unhappy hunting ground

Darmstadt's last victory in Düsseldorf came way back in September 1988, when they triumphed 2-1. That's more than 36 years.

Dominant Düsseldorf

Düsseldorf have won their last six home matches against Darmstadt. They've not been so dominant against any other Bundesliga 2 side in that period.

Always a winner

Not one of the 17 second-tier encounters between these two has ended in a draw (eleven victories for Fortuna, six for the Lilies).
