Full-time: Karlsruhe 2-0 Schalke

Shortly after Hamache attempts a volley but only hits the side netting, the match comes to a close. KSC secures a thoroughly deserved home victory. The hosts were the better team, while Schalke were too ineffective in attack and unstable at the back.

Zivzivadze the hero of the day

The striker (right) is being praised heavily. No wonder, as his brace takes KSC to the top of the table.

Multiple substitutions

Eichner makes several changes. Pfeiffer, Heußer and the 16-year-old Pinto Pedrosa come onto the pitch. Schalke's coach also makes substitutions, with Lasme making a comeback after his injury.
84'

No danger from Schalke's deliveries

Murkin tries a low cross, but the KSC defence is alert to the danger once again. In general, the crosses and deliveries from the visitors have been far too inaccurate today.
81'

Hunziker gets in the way

KSC continue to press forward. Wanitzek shoots from a position in off the left, but hits Hunziker, who is standing in the way. There was more potential in that chance.
79'

Top scorer comes off - Super sub comes on

The KSC hero gets to celebrate his brace, and he's replaced by super sub Hunziker, who also has two goals to his name this season. Plenty of attacking quality at KSC!

The miners strive, but without reward

Schalke are trying hard, but still lack a decisive edge.

Blow for Schalke

The Royal Blues had just fought their way into the match when the serial goalscorer struck, likely robbing the visitors of any hope for a point. Can S04 still conjure a small miracle here?

Goal! Another for Zivzivadze

After a free kick from Schalke, where Karaman fails to make contact with the ball from an excellent position, KSC counter-attack and Zivzivadze finishes once again!

Schalke need more firepower

Perhaps attacking player Hamache could provide a way through.
68'

Schalke better - but not quite enough

Schalke are now coming back into the game a bit better, but as in the first half, the Royal Blues are not decisive enough. Since Sylla's chance, nothing dangerous has materialised.
64'

Sylla tries his luck

Another opportunity for the visitors. Sylla shoots from position in off the right, but the ball goes over the bar.
62'

Schallenberg heads over

Mohr's corner to the near post finds Schallenberg, who heads just over. Best chance for S04 in the match.
61'

Schleusener!

Second big chance for the striker. He gets a completely free header, but the finish from about eight metres flies just wide of the post.
59'

New signing in, new signing out

A somewhat surprising substitution. Perhaps Younes is lacking the stamina for the full 90 minutes. Now the speedy Antwi-Adjei comes on as his replacement.
57'

Franke!

Following a free-kick from Wanitzek, Franke heads the ball just wide of the right post. KSC are working towards a second goal, you can feel it.
55'

Younes with instances of creativity

Whenever Schalke manage to push forward, it's usually through Younes. His chipped pass to Karaman, who was lurking in the penalty area, is intercepted though.

KSC turning the screw

After Schalke's brief spark of energy at the restart, the home side has clearly taken control again.

Ball out of play - no second goal for KSC

Shortly after, the ball is in the back of the net, with Zivzivadze finishing. However, the ball had gone out of play before that, so instead of a goal, it's a corner kick for Karlsruhe.
48'

Schleusener has the goal gaping!

But KSC have the first big chance! Schleusener is completely unmarked after a free kick, but Heekeren makes a brilliant save from close range.

Wanitzek's free-kick hits the post!

By more luck than judgement, a free-kick from the left side taken by Wanitzek hits the post. The ball sails through the penalty area unmet, striking the right-hand post, where Schleusener narrowly misses. A lucky escape for S04!
38'

Visitors become bolder

Schalke are pinning the hosts back in their attacking third. Much of the play is going through Younes and Karaman in the centre, but it just won't quite fall for the latter. First, he dribbles into trouble, and shortly after the captain plays a misplaced pass. However, Schalke are now well and truly in the match.
36'

It's getting rougher

The match is becoming more intense. After a challenge in midfield, Zivzivadze is shown a yellow card. Additionally, assistant coach Bajramović receives a caution for his protest.
33'

Mohr and Karaman creating chances

On the other end, Mohr and Karaman apply pressure. First, Beifus just about manages to clear away in front of Karaman, who could have headed it in. Shortly after, the KSC defence is called upon again when Karaman attempts a turn and shot in the penalty area.
31'

Heekeren stays switched on!

Schalke's defence is looking shaky once again. Sánchez plays a back pass that's too short, but this time Heekeren is wide awake and clears. Good reactions from the keeper.

KSC continues to attack down the left - S04 defend well

KSC seems to have identified Schalke's right defensive flank as a weak spot. Sylla has now moved to help on the wing there, whereas at the start, right-back Gantenbein was often left alone against Günther. This is working better now, and the flank is not as exposed as before.

Heekeren breathes a sigh of relief

Heekeren wobbles after a back pass from Sánchez, with the ball bouncing just before him. Zivzivadze arrives a step too late for Karlsruhe. That was a close one.
22'

S04 growing into the game

Once again, Schalke move it quickly towards the KSC goal. Mohr tries one from a tight angle, Weiß has to react to the powerful shot and parries it away. Schalke are growing into this one. Shortly after, Younes attempts to thread a pass through to Karaman, but Beifus clears it well.

4'

Yellow card

Fabian Schleusener collides late with Schalke's Sánchez ankle in a hard challenge. An early booking for the home side.
Kick-off!

And we're off!

It's the home side Karlsruhe that get us underway this evening, after a brief delay.

Bouncing back

Schalke on the other hand, will be looking for a turnaround from their last outing in which they lost 3-1 to Cologne. A positive start to the season saw them beat Braunschweig 5-1 on the opening matchday, but with two losses and a draw since, they haven't quite been able to recapture that spark in recent weeks. They will be hoping to bounce back today.

Still unbeaten

Karlsruhe come into this home fixture a team in form. Sat at second in the table, having taken 10 points from their opening four games, they will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start to this campaign against a Schalke side that hasn't quite got going yet this season.
