All square

There goes the final whistle and the spoils are shared! Freiburg's players are out on their feet, they've put so much into the match and just about deserve that draw. It's a missed opportunity for for the Bavarians, though, and Dortmund's late 2-0 win over Wolfsburg means BVB lead the table by two points ahead of next week's Klassiker in Munich. This could be a huge, huge day in this season's title race!

News from Dortmund

We're into added time and still no breakthrough for Bayern. And to make matters worse, Dortmund have scored a late goal against Wolfsburg and are heading back to the top of the table!

Rafinha shoots wide

The visitors are camped on the edge of the Freiburg box now. James dribbles into the box and pokes the ball through to the onrushing Rafinha, but the makeshift left-back drags his shot wastefully wide.

Schwolow again!

The Freibirg goalkeeper is likely to end this game as his team's best player, regardless of the result. He palms away Goretzka's drive from distance and then sprints of his line to deny Lewandowski after the Pole had been released by Gnabry. As we approach the final ten minutes, the home side are standing firm.

Gnabry denied

And that was almost the breakthrough for the substitute! After a powerful run and a nutmeg on Günter, the former Arsenal and Hoffenheim man has a sight of goal but can only shoot straight at Schwolow. A pass would have been the better option there.

Schwolow double-save

Bayern are building up a head of steam here, the game having changed since the introduction of Gnabry. Boateng with a powerful half-volley and James with a curling cross are thwarted by Schwolow but there looks to be some joy down the right if Gnabry can be found.

Lewandowski has one thing on his mind

Unsurprisingly Bayern's main man doesn't look like he'll be passing up any opportunities to shoot today. He has two shots blocked on the edge of the box and then brings down an opponent as the home side were looking to break. Perhaps the Pole was a touch fortunate not to be booked there.

Incredible pressing from Freiburg!

The early moments of the second half looked as though Bayern were doing the pressing, but it's switched around again and Freiburg are doing what they did before the interval. Grifo presses Kimmich into losing the ball in his own penalty box and it breaks loose. The shot comes in from Niclas Höfler but it's off target. On comes Gnabry for Müller.

Lewandowski's first half

He touched the ball just 12 times in the first half, but one was to control the ball and the other was to convert. Talk about effectiveness.

Where we left off!

There are some games where you don't want half-time and this was one of them, but at least the second period has started in the same vein, with Schwolow producing a smart stop to deny Kimmich.

Bayern struggling to evade the press

Kovac's men are edging possession, but they have given it away cheaply on a few occasions already and they're putting themselves under pressure. If they can break through the hosts' press, they'll have space to exploit, but they'll need to step it up.

Home side playing with confidence

This has been an excellent display from Christian Streich's men so far, and you get the feeling they will score again. Frantz takes on a first-time volley from thirty yards that lopps narrowly over the bar, before yet another Freiburg counter-attack ends with Höler testing Ulreich with a low shot from an angle that the goalkeeper just about gathers.

Günter enjoying himself

Christian Günter is not hiding today. Setting up the goal and receiving a yellow card, he's also embarked on a couple of good forward runs, the latest drawing a save from Ulreich at his near post. Moments before, Müller stole in to meet Hummels' lofted pass but could only direct his header straight at the 'keeper.

One of Lewy's favourites

Lewandowski has now scored 14 times in 14 appearances against Freiburg, and has netted in his last four matches.

Lewandowski strikes

It's because of finishing like this that Lewandowski has scored 199 times in the Bundesliga. A corner comes in and Joshua Kimmich fires the ball into the melee. It's half-cleared again and then forced back into the mixer, where the Pole controls the ball instinctively, swivels and acrobatically volleys low past Schwolow. He did it all in just two touches, both on his unfavoured left foot. Wow.
19'

Should be 2-0!

Bayern have no excuses now - this is the wake-up call they must heed. The hosts' pressing wins them the ball back again in midfield and suddenly it's a three-on-two attack! The ball is squared across the box by Höler and Frantz meets it with a hard, low strike. Sven Ulreich is nowhere but Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels combine to clear the ball off the line!
12'

Lewandowski inches away!

In the blink of an eye, Bayern's tremendous quality almost brings them level. James looks up on the left wing and spots Thomas Müller on the opposite side. He picks him out with an inch-perfect switch of place and Müller crosses first time on the volley, with Lewandowki just failing to get on the end of it in the six-yard box.

Frantz goes close!

If Bayern didn't know they were in a game, they surely do now. Niko Kovac's men are rattled, struggling to retain possession and being pressed in their own box relentlessly. Mike Frantz goes close to doubling the lead but shoots wide.

The drama continues!

This is a fraught game indeed! Bayern attempt an immediate response, and are inches from going level when Leon Goretzka whistles a half-volley past Alexander Schwolow's post. At the other end, Bayern's Mats Hummels is booked for a cynical foul on Höler - only the defender's third foul of 2019 - but Vincenzo Grifo strikes the resulting free-kick over.

Who needs Nils Petersen!

We said Lucas Höler would have a tough time today - well what do we know! After a positive start, Freiburg have a deserved equaliser as Höler sends a brilliant glancing header into the corner. He's now scored home and away against the Bavarians this season. What a start for the hosts!

Lewandowski to reach a double hundred?

Bayern have no such worries around their star striker. Robert Lewandowski is fit and firing and just two goals away from reaching 200 in the Bundesliga - in what would be just 283rd appearance. What a sensational goalscorer the man is.

Petersen a costly miss?

Here's a stat that won't fill Freiburg fans with hope: not since February 2015 have Freiburg been able to win a league game without Nils Petersen (five draws, six defeats). The striker misses out today with a thigh injury, and with Florian Niederlechner only fit enough for the bench, Lucas Höler has the task of leading the attack.

Freiburg starting XI!

Schwolow – Stenzel, Schlotterbeck, Heintz, Günter – Höfler, Frantz (c), Haberer, Abrashi – Grifo – Höler

Bayern starting XI!

Ulreich – Kimmich, Boateng, Hummels, Rafinha – Thiago, Goretzka, James – Müller (c), Lewandowski, Coman

Neuer and Alaba out

We'll have confirmed team news for you shortly, but Bayern have been rocked by two late withdrawals on game day. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is out with a calf problem and left-back David Alaba misses out due to a thigh strain.
