SCHALKE ARE SAFE

With that point, no matter how unpretty it was, Schalke can now safely enjoy the last two matches of the season with safety in the Bundesliga secured for next season. Rabbi Matondo came closest to scoring for the home side, but Kobel and the Augsburg defence were on hand to keep them out.

SERDAR WITH THE NEXT CHANCE

The ball is wide with Matondo and his dipping cross to the near post is perfect for Serdar to volley at goal, which he does. But once again Kobel is on hand to keep the ball out.

MATONDO AGAIN!

A corner loops into the middle of the box and is headed down towards goal by Nastasic. The ball bounces up for Matondo to volley at goal on the turn, but Kobel does superbly to position himself in front of the Schalke man and block the ball over his own crossbar.

MATONDO'S CHANCE...

A neat one-two into the box with Embolo, who finds the Welshman with a backheel. He has plenty of Augsburg defenders in his way, but works space to shoot from his left foot. But it's deflected over the crossbar.

15 TO PLAY...

It was a rapid start to the second half with big chances for either side, but it has only been half chances since then in this game which looks as if both sides are happy to draw considering their positions in the table. Augsburg are safe, and Schalke will be with one point.

MATONDO SHOWS OFF HIS PACE

A rapid run from the Welshman who picks up the ball just outside his own box, and gets to the Augsburg box within just a matter of seconds, beating two or three defenders along the way. In the end, he's muscled off the ball, but it's a sign of what the winger is capable of.

MATONDO ON FOR HIS FIFTH APPEARANCE

The Welsh international is still looking for his first Schalke goal as he comes on, with the hope of being Schalke's inspiration to go on and win this game.

NÜBEL WITH A CRUCIAL SAVE

Schalke are caught sleeping from set-piece as Max plays a free-kick low into the box and directly to Gregoritsch, who had pulled away from his marker. His shot takes a small deflection off Caligiuri, and Nübel has to adjust to make a superb save on the line.
52'

OFF THE POST!

What a move from Serdar, who races down the left wing after a mistake from Schmid, plays a one-two into the box with Embolo and shoots at goal. But he can only hit the near post of the Augsburg goal, with Kobel well-positioned to watch it happen.

SECOND HALF BEGINS

Let's hope for some more goal-mouth action in this second half.

A SLOW BURNER SO FAR

Good things come to those who wait, as the saying goes. So fans of Schalke and Augsburg, as well as the neutrals following along, will have to hope they are rewarded for their patience so far. One chance came and went as Embolo did well to snatch the ball from Kobel, but couldn't find a teammate to finish the job.
41'

EMBOLO ALMOST EARNS THE OPENER

Kobel has the ball in his own box and is ambitious with his time and Embolo races to close him down and even win the ball back from him. The loose ball runs wide of goal and he collects it, before cutting it back across goal for Serdar. But the pass is poor, and the midfielder's touch on the ball dribbles away harmlessly from goal.

DEFENCE WINNING THE DAY

Schalke captain Benjamin Stambouli is continuing his Revierderby form today, he's attempted six challenges and won all of them. Proving just how well the men stopping goals are doing so far today.

WAITING FOR OUR FIRST MAJOR CHANCE

There have been five combined attempts on goal so far, but none of them have forced a meaningful save from Alexander Nübel or Gregor Kobel. Still, both sides are pushing forward, but it is certainly the defences which are winning the day so far.

REVIERDERBY RECOVERY?

After the intensity of Schalke's last Bundesliga outing, and the incredible 4-2 derby win at Borussia Dortmund, the Royal Blues are kicking into gear a lot slower today. It looks to be out of choice, though, with neither side actually forcing the agenda and risking more than they need to.

SCRAPPY SO FAR

Both sides enjoying spells of possession but neither in full control as the rain begins to pour down in the Veltins Arena. Even a bit of hail coming down through the roof. McKennie looks confident in this defensive role, where he is on the right side of a three-man defence.

SCHALKE SET-UP...

Weston McKennie is starting in a centre-back position today, alongside Benjamin Stambouli and Matija Nastasic in a three-man backline.

UNDERWAY IN SCHALKE

Can Schalke confirm their place in the Bundesliga for next season? Let's find out...
Kick-off!

STUNNING SCHALKE CHOREO!

An incredible choreography from the home fans, dedicated to late coach Rudi Assauer who passed away earlier this season. He won the UEFA Cup for Schalke during his time with the club, and become a genuine legend at the Veltins Arena.

FIRST START FOR KUTUCU UNDER STEVENS

The teenage striker has yet to start a match for Schalke under Huub Stevens, but he's now in the starting line-up for the first time since the middle of February for the Royal Blues. With just his third start of the season, can the 19-year-old score his third goal?

ONE POINT TO SAFETY

A single point will confirm Schalke's safety and place in the Bundesliga next season, despite it looking near-impossible for them to fall into the relegation places now. A six-point advantage over VfB Stuttgart in the relegation play-off spot, with a far superior goal difference, means that any point in the next two games could confirm their safety.

HEFTY SCHALKE INJURY LIST

As many as nine former and current first-team players are absent for Schalke today, with Ralf Fährmann (muscle problem) and Guido Burgstaller (family reasons) the most recently added to the list. Burgstaller's partner is due to give birth today, meaning the Austrian has missed this game to be there.
