RARE BIG WIN FOR AUGSBURG

Only one before have Augsburg won by a bigger scoreline than today's result, which came against Stuttgart earlier this year. The home side took advantage of their man-advantage and were able to earn a vital three points. For Hertha it's another disappointing result which sees them suffer defeat for the fourth league game in a row.

UP TO 12TH AS IT STANDS

A huge three points on the way for Augsburg here which see them rise from 15th to 12th in the table. They now have a six-point gap between themselves and the automatic relegation spots.

LOVELY GOAL!

Philipp Max is the creator and does so with a cheeky set-piece. He plays a pass into the box from his free-kick which Niederlechner latches onto and the striker shoots first-time at the near post, beating Smarsch, and finding the far top corner.
74'

BAIER FROM RANGE!

The captain collects possession all of 30 yards from goal and decides to have a go. His powerful strike rises just too far and goes over the Hertha crossbar.

BIG CHANCE FOR BOYATA

Another opportunity on goal goes begging for Hertha as Boyata drifts to the back post to get on the end of a corner. He's well placed and heads the ball at goal, but can't keep it on target from six yards out.

MAIER RETURNS!

The young midfielder is back, making his first appearance for Hertha since March 2019. The 20-year-old was such a key player last season and his return can be a major boost for the capital club in the coming weeks.

HERTHA PLAYING GOOD FOOTBALL

Despite the game looking beyond them, the away side are still playing some lovely football. With their one-man disadvantage to football they are playing is having to be far more direct, with long balls across the pitch and forward to Selke, but it's bringing them closer to goal.

VARGAS HAS A GO

The Switzerland international steals the ball from Klünter in the Hertha half and immediately races towards goal. Going from left to right, he looks to wrong-foot the goalkeeper by shooting back across goal, but drags his shot just wide in the end.
56'

ALMOST ANOTHER FOR HAHN

The winger brings the ball past the Hertha defence and across the box from right to left before going for goal on his left foot. But at the end of his run, while falling, that was only going to go one way. High and wide.

WHAT A FINISH FROM HAHN!

The forward picks up the ball in midfield and brings it forward unchallenged. He has a host of options to choose from, but goes for goal on his left foot with a defender in his face. The ball goes through him, and curls perfectly beyond Smarsch's reach and into the bottom corner. An inch-perfect finish from the first-half substitute.

BACK UNDERWAY

One change at the break sees Dodi Lukebakio come on in place of Javairo Dilrosun. He'll play right up front with Davie Selke as Hertha look to get back into this game.

BIG CHANCE FOR SELKE

That would have been the perfect way to end a difficult half for Hertha as Selke got on the end of Marius Wolf's cross. His diving header from about eight yards out couldn't stay on target, though.

GOOOO... NO!

Andre Hahn has the ball in the Hertha net, but he is deemed to have been in an offside position when the ball was played over the Hertha defence. VAR will check it.

CORDOVA CLOSE TO ANOTHER

The ball runs loose to the edge of the box after an attempted clearance by Mittelstädt. It falls to Cordova, who goes for goal with a first-time shot on his left foot, but he lifts the ball just over the Hertha crossbar.

A FEW MINUTES OF MADNESS

A goal from a goalkeeping mistake and a red card for that goalkeeper thanks to a check from the Video-Assistant. Back to normal now, with Augsburg in real control of this game with a two-goal and one-man advantage.

SMARSCH DEBUT

Dennis Smarsch is thrown into a difficult situation here. The Hertha academy product is on for his first-team debut having been at the club since he was 11. The 20-year-old comes into a game with his side down to 10 men and also two goals behind.
28'

JARSTEIN SENT OFF

After a check from VAR, Rune Jarstein has been sent off after his challenge on Niederlechner when attempting to clear the ball. He also challenged Cordova late when the Augsburg forward had found the net.
27'

CORDOVA POUNCES!

It's a big mistake from Jarstein who collects a pass-back but takes a huge touch in doing so. Niederlechner charges him down and blocks the ball, being injured in the process, and the ball falls to the edge of the box where Cordova is waiting. He slots it home into an empty net with ease.

SHAME FOR RICHTER

The 22-year-old has to come off with injury here and is replaced by Andre Hahn.

RICHTER TO CONTINUE

There's no way the German would let his birthday end in injury, and he's back on the pitch but still limping slightly. We'll have to see how long he can last.

RICHTER DOWN

The birthday boy took a heavy blow from Mittelstädt's challenge which led to the Augsburg goal. He's down once again taking treatment and is doing everything in an attempt to be able to continue here.
18'

WE HAVE LIFT OFF!

It's a goal for Augsburg and not how they'd have expected it. Max whips in a free-kick from the right flank and it's a superb one. Bouncing in the six-yard box the Hertha defence can't deal with it, and in the end, it bounces through everyone and goes straight it. His second goal of the season.

NOT CLICKING SO FAR

Selke, Wolf and Dilrosun have not been able to get into the game thus far with Hertha struggling to break out of their own half with possession of the ball. Augsburg pressing well and forcing lacklustre passes from the away side.

BRIGHT START FOR THE HOSTS

No chances on goal so far, but Augsburg showing confidence on the ball thus far. Cordova is also providing a physical presence in attack, which the home side are looking to exploit with long balls forward. Birthday boy Marco Richter - 22 today - is also looking lively on the right wing.

KICK-OFF COMING UP

The players are making their way out onto the pitch here in Augsburg for the first of the final two games of the weekend. The sun is trying to breakthrough and shine, and hopefully we see a good game to go with the weather.

FORM vs. HISTORY FOR HERTHA

The capital club are unbeaten in nine games against Augsburg dating back five years, but have lost each of their last three games and are without a win in four. One bright note for Covic's side is that they have had no trouble scoring goals this season, failing to find the net only three times through 11 games.

SELKE AND DILROSUN START

It was a selection headache for Covic with all of his attacking options fit to play today. In the end, Javairo Dilrosun and Davie Selke are the preferred options, with Dodi Lukebakio and Vedad Ibisevic dropping to what is a strong Hertha bench. Made stronger by the return of Arne Maier, the 20-year-old midfielder who suffered a knee ligament injury at the end of last season. He could make his first appearance of the season from the bench.

CORDOVA IN ATTACK

With Alfred Finnbogason ruled out for the rest of the year, Sergio Cordova starts alongside Florian Niederlechner in attack with Augsburg sticking to their 4-4-2 formation. In defence, Framberger and Gouweleeuw are preferred to Lichtsteiner and Udoukhai.

AUGSBURG STARTING XI!

Koubek - Framberger, Jedvaj, Gouweleeuw, Max - Richter, Khedira, Baier (c), Vargas - Niederlechner, Cordova (SUBS:   Luthe, Lichtsteiner, Pedersen, Moravek, Udoukhai, Schieber, Iago, Jensen, Hahn)

HERTHA STARTING XI!

Jarstein - Klünter, Stark, Boyata, Mittelstädt - Skjelbred, Grujic - Wolf, Darida, Dilrosun - Selke (SUBS:  Smarsch, Pekarik, Kalou, Duda, Ibisevic, Plattenhardt, Maier, Torunarigha, Lukebakio)
