DESERVED WIN FOR LEIPZIG

Julian Nagelsmann's side were irresistable for the most part here - bar a 15-minute spell before the interval when Hoffenheim were in the ascendancy. They were excellent all over the pitch and the result, their fifth successive Bundesliga win, would have taken them top of the league if it weren't for Gladbach's last-gasp win over Bayern Munich. As it stands, Leipzig stay second, one point off top spot.

WE GO AGAIN!

Hoffenheim get us started in the second half.
89'

BICAKCIC PULLS ONE BACK

A looping corner is sent deep towards the back post. Gulacsi comes off his line to punch clear, misjudges it and can't get a fist on the ball. Bicakcic is well placed to head into the empty net, but it's too little, too late for the visitors now.

WERNER TAKEN OFF

His work done, Werner makes way for Wolf to a standing ovation from the home crowd.

SABITZER PUTS THE GAME TO BED!

This is another superb counter-attacking goal from Leipzig. The move starts inside their own penalty area but Sabizter sprints away down the right before switching the play over to the unmarked Nkunku - special credit to Poulsen for a brilliant run to drag the defenders out of position. His shot is saved by Baumann, but Sabitzer is alive to the rebound and slots in Leipzig's third of the game.

BRILLIANT FROM NKUNKU, BRILLIANT FROM BAUMANN

The Leipzig winger has been superb since coming on and instigates another attack here, tearing away down the left before sliding a perfectly weighted ball into the path of Laimer, whose shot is well saved by Baumann. The rebound falls to Nkunku though, but his shot is also blocked by the visiting goalkeeper.
78'

FREE-KICK FOR HOFFENHEIM

It's in a promising area, wide on the left and about 40 yards out, but Kaderabek's delivery is poor and Leipzig head the ball clear.
74'

SO CLOSE FROM NKUNKU!

Nkunku receives the ball on the left-hand edge of the Hoffenheim penalty area with his back to goal. No problem for him though as he twists and jinks past Kaderabek before getting a shot off. It looks like it's going to fly into the top corner at the far post, but whistles just wide.
70'

LOVELY FROM LEIPZIG

Klostermann plays a neat one-two with Demme on the right before scampering to the byline and pulling the ball back for Nkunku - only for a defender to get a leg in the way and block it for a corner. Still, Leipzig sliced through the Hoffenheim defence with ease there.
67'

WATCH OUT, NKUNKU'S ABOUT!

The young French attacker, who has a goal and three assists in his last four league outings, comes on for Forsberg.
63'

ON COMES POULSEN

The big Dane makes his first appearance since Matchday 11 following injury.
62'

FORSBERG CURLS IT WIDE

Lovely skill on the edge of the box from Forsberg and he creates a bit of space for himself before bending a shot towards the far post that narrowly goes wide of the target.
59'

19 AND COUNTING FOR WERNER

The Leipzig striker now has 19 goals in all competitions this term. That's already as many as he managed in the entire 2018/19 campaign last season.
58'

ATTACKING CHANGE FOR HOFFENHEIM

Posch, who caused the penalty and is on a yellow card, is taken off for Ihlas Bebou as Hoffenheim coach Alfred Schreuder looks to give his side a little something extra up top.
52'

WERNER MAKES IT 2-0!

Werner dusts himself down and steps up to take the penalty, lashing a powerful shot straight down the middle, with Baumann diving to his right. That's now 15 Bundesliga goals for Werner this season!

PENALTY TO LEIPZIG!

Posch is booked for hauling down Werner in the box and the hosts have a penalty!

LEIPZIG ON TOP AGAIN

Nagelsmann must have given his players the hairdryer treatment at half-time because Leipzig are looking dangerous again. They've had all of the ball this half and Ilsanker heads just wide from a corner.

NARROW LEAD FOR LEIPZIG

You've heard of a game of two halves, but what about a half of two halves? Leipzig were much the better side for the opening 30 minutes or so and deservedly went ahead through Werner - and could have added a couple more - but Hoffenheim subsequently fought their way back into the match and were the better team just before the break. Geiger could, and really should, have equalised from close range following a mistake from Gulacsi, but as it stands the hosts are in front.
Half-time

TWO MINUTES OF STOPPAGE TIME

Werner has a tame effort saved at the back post as the half-time whistle draws ever closer.
45'

LEIPZIG RUNNING DOWN THE CLOCK

Presumably aware that Hoffenheim have been on top in the last 15 minutes and with half-time approaching, the home team are content to play simple passes and take their time with throw-ins, goal kicks etc, buying time to preserve their lead and regroup during the break.
41'

KADERABEK IN SPACE... BUT NO!

Lovely work from Kramaric, who draws a couple of defenders towards him before spreading the ball wide to Kaderabek, who's in acres of space on the right-hand side of the Leipzig box. He must shoot, with only Gulacsi to beat, but instead he attempts a cross into the middle that evades everyone and runs harmlessly out of play.
40'

GEIGER HITS THE POST!

A bit of a blunder from Gulacsi as he tries to play it out from the back and suddenly Geiger is free in front of goal. He only has the 'keeper to beat, but crashes his shot off the post. Hoffenheim should be level!
38'

SIDE NETTING FROM GEIGER

More patient play from the visitors and this time they get forward down the left. The ball is played in to Geiger, who jinks inside the box to fashion a pocket of space for himself, but it takes a deflection off Klostermann and goes into the side netting!
35'

FIRST DECENT SPELL FROM HOFFENHEIM

Leipzig are no longer pressing as high up the pitch - maintaining such intensity is not humanly possible - and that's given Hoffenheim a chance to get into the game. For the first time, they're allowed a bit of time on the ball in midfield and are able to string a few passes together, even causing a scare or two with inviting crosses into the box. Still nothing to seriously worry Gulacsi, though.
31'

RARE ATTACK FROM HOFFENHEIM

The visitors get forward down the right and the ball is worked to Samesekou, who's made a promising run into the box. But Leipzig defend well and shephard him away from the danger zone and the move runs out of steam.
29'

WERNER THROUGH ON GOAL!

Leipzig win possession high up in midfield and Werner immediately sets off on a sprint. He collects a lovely ball into his path, shrugs off Bicakcic and sets himself to shoot, but just seems to take one touch too many, allowing Akpoguma that vital fraction of a second to get back and block before Baumann is called into action.
24'

HALSTENBERG ALMOST IN

Another lovely move from Leipzig, whose pace in attack is causing Hoffenheim all sorts of problems. Werner receives possession wide on the left and plays a delightful ball inside the defender into the run of Halstenberg, but Baumann is quick off his line and clears.
21'

LEIPZIG TURNING THE SCREW

Two chances in quick succession at the other end of the pitch as first Upamecano goes close with a powerful header that Baumann does well to save, before Forsberg gathers up the rebound on the right-hand edge of the box, drives forward and drills a low shot at goal that again draws a fine stop from Baumann.
19'

CHANCE FOR BICAKCIC!

Hoffenheim have their best opportunity of the game so far as a corner is taken short before being curled in from the right. Leipzig don't deal with it and the ball falls at the feet of Bicakcic on the edge of the six-yard box. He must score! But Gulacsi is quick off his line to smother the danger.
13'

FIVE IN A ROW FOR WERNER

The Germany striker has now scored for a fifth successive Bundesliga game, a personal best that takes his tally for the season to 14. That's now just two behind leading scorer Robert Lewandowski.
11'

BRILLIANT COUNTER FROM LEIPZIG

THis is a textbook counter-attack from the hosts, and the goal had been coming. THey win the ball deep in their own half and suddenly are three on three in attack. Werner tears forward and gets to the edge of the box, where he plays a lovely one-two with Schick before coolly slotting it past Baumann.
11'

Timo Werner

GOAL!

Timo Werner
9'

JUST WIDE FROM SABITZER

The Austrian pings a cross from the right wing, looking for Forsberg in the middle. It's just too strong for his outstretched leg, and bounces a whisker wide of the far post.
8'

HOSTS ON TOP

Leipzig have had 56 per cent of possession so far and have had three shots on goal. Hoffenheim are yet to really make any inroads into the Leipzig half, let alone test Gulacsi.
6'

HALF-CHANCE FOR WERNER

Sabitzer sweeps a lovely pass from right to left to Werner, who has peeled off his marker. He cuts inside onto his right foot and tries to curl a shot towards the far corner, but it strikes Akpoguma full in the face and floors him. The Hoffenheim defender stands up after a few seconds and is able to continue, though.
3'

STUNNING CONTROL FROM FORSBERG

The Swede, with his back to goal, receives a long ball forward about 40 yards from goal. He brings it down and spins Akpoguma with ONE touch, accelerating into space. He could have a pop from the edge of the box, but opts to play in Sabitzer, who is then pulled back for offside. It's a shame, as that was outrageous skill from Forsberg.
2'

FORSBERG CHARGED DOWN!

Leipzig go on the front foot right away and immediately put their visitors under pressure. Sabitzer eventually floats a ball from right to left to the back post, where Forsberg is lurking. He takes the volley first time, but his shot is blocked by a desperate lunge from a defender.

HERE WE GO!

Leipzig get the ball rolling at the Red Bull Arena.
Kick-off!

WERNER OK TO START

The Germany international looked in some discomfort during the warm-up and left the pitch to get treatment in the changing room. He is, however, lined up with the rest of his teammates in the tunnel and will start.

THREE CHANGES AT HOFFENHEIM

Nagelsmann's successor, Alfred Schreuder, has likewise made a trio of changes to the side that drew 1-1 with Fortuna Düsseldorf last week. Kevin Vogt (ankle), Sebastian Rudy (suspended) and Jürgen Locadia (bench) all miss out today, with Kevin Akpoguma, Diadie Samassekou and Dennis Geiger taking their places.

SPECIAL OCCASION FOR NAGELSMANN

The Leipzig boss faces his former club for the first time today, and the significance of the game is not lost on him. "It's certainly a special match," he said in the build-up to the fixture this week. "But that's normal if you spend nine years at one club."

THREE CHANGES FOR LEIPZIG

Peter Gulacsi returns in goal for the hosts following concussion, so Mvogo drops back down to the bench, while Emil Forsberg comes into attackng midfield for the in-form Christopher Nkunku, who is given a breather. In defence, fit-again Marcel Halstenberg resumes his place on the left, meaning Nordi Mukiele gives way and is among the subs.

LEIPZIG STARTING XI:

Gulacsi – Klostermann, Ilsanker, Upamecano, Halstenberg – Laimer, Demme (c) – Sabitzer, Schick, Forsberg – Werner

RB LEIPZIG SUBS:
