THANKS FOR TUNING IN

We hope you've enjoyed Matchday 30 of the Bundesliga - only four more to go! Do join us again in midweek for live coverage of the DFB Cup semi-finals, with Saarbrücken hosting Bayer Leverkusen in a David vs. Goliath clash on Tuesday, before holders Bayern Munich take on 2018 winners Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday. Tschüss!

FULL-TIME!

In the end probably a fair result, given how outrageously Augsburg dominated the first half. The hosts didn't take their chances though, with Florian Niederlechner seeing a penalty saved by the excellent Timo Horn. Cologne improved after the break, but it wasn't until late in the day that substitute Anthony Modeste finally broke the deadlock, before Philipp Max rescued a deserved point for Augsburg. Both sides creep a little closer to safety.

MAX MATCHES HINTI

Philipp Max is now the Bundesliga's joint top-scoring defender this term, joining Eintracht Frankfurt's Martin Hinteregger on eight goals. It's also a career-best return for the Augsburg man.

FOUR MINUTES OF TIME ADDED ON

More late drama please.
90'
+ 1

NO DANGER

For once, Max hits one of his free-kicks badly and it sails harmlessly behind for a goal kick. That was his eighth goal of the season, while Modeste now has three in four since the restart.

FREE-KICK FOR AUGSBURG

Max to take, of course...
89'

MAX EQUALISES!

Another late twist! Framberger gets down the right flank and sends a cross to the back post, where Philipp Max is waiting to coolly slot home the equaliser for Augsburg. Will we have a late winner?

AND MODESTE SCORES!

There's your moment of magic! Minutes after coming off the bench, the in-form Frenchman rifles a left-footed half-volley past Luthe and into the bottom corner. Could that be the goal that secures Cologne's Bundesliga status for another season?

LÖWEN HAS A GO

Augsburg finally have a first attempt on goal in this second half, as Löwen unleashes from distance - it's deflected out for a corner that sails through a crowd of bodies before being thumped away by Rexhbecaj.
82'

MODESTE ON

The Frenchman netted 25 goals for Cologne in their memorable 2016/17 campaign - will he be their hero in the closing stages today?
80'

CORDOBA DOWN

A nice ball in from Kainz forces Luthe to come out and punch clear ahead of Cordoba, who appears to have hurt his ankle after competing in the air with Jedvaj. A little thumbs-up to the bench, but it looks like Modeste is going to replace him.
78'

REXHBECAJ GETTING INVOLVED

The Cologne substitute finds himself in a bit of space inside the Augsburg area, but his cross for Cordoba is cut out by Jedvaj. You feel like one moment of magic would win this game.
76'

ATTACKING CHANGES FROM HERRLICH

Löwen comes on for Vargas, while Finnbogason - who scored a hat-trick the last time Cologne came to town - replaces the unfortunate Niederlechner, who will no doubt be thinking about that penalty miss.
74'

AS IT STANDS...

Both sides will creep a little closer to safety. Cologne would move onto 35 points and Augsburg onto 32 - Fortuna Düsseldorf, in the relegation play-off place, sit on 28. A double substitution coming up for Augsburg.
73'

REXHBECAJ ON

A third change for the visitors, with midfielder Elvis Rexhbecaj on for Uth. Still no changes yet for Augsburg.
69'

AUGSBURG TOOTHLESS

Max pings a ball out to the right for Sarenren-Bazee, who shows great pace to get on the end of a one-two and win a corner for Augsburg - but it comes to nothing. The hosts have yet to register a shot on goal in the second half.
65'

COLOGNE APPLYING PRESSURE

A couple of balls into the Augsburg box come to nothing, with the flag up against Hector, but the Billy Goats are now the ones in the driving seat. No doubt we'll see some changes for the hosts shortly.
62'

BRILLIANT FROM LUTHE!

Cologne break down the right and Kainz fizzes in a superb low cross for Jakobs, but Augsburg keeper Luthe puts his body on the line to make a great save from point-blank range.
56'

COLOGNE CHANCE!

Uth whips in a free-kick from close to the corner flag, and Luthe has to punch it clear. Much better from the visitors since the restart.
54'

EVEN STEVENS

Augsburg aren't running rings around Cologne in the same way they did in the first half. Cologne are pressing the ball much better, higher up the pitch.
52'

NO PENALTY

In the meantime, Framberger becomes the first Augsburg player to be booked for a foul on Cordoba.
49'

SARENREN-BAZEE DOWN IN THE AREA...

... but this time there's no penalty. The Augsburg winger has a handy turn of pace, but the referee has decided that there was no foul from Czichos. Or has he? Perhaps there will be a VAR check...
46'

SECOND HALF UNDERWAY

We're back underway in Augsburg, with another change for the visitors - Höger is on for Shkiri in midfield.
Kick-off!

HALF-TIME!

A thoroughly entertaining first half. Augsburg have huffed and puffed - 11 shots, 7 corners, a host of free-kicks and a missed penalty - but Cologne and Timo Horn have held firm. The visiting keeper happens to have saved one other penalty this season - in November's reverse fixture against Augsburg, to deny Andre Hahn.

OVER THE BAR

Max goes for it, but it's not the best free-kick he's ever hit - it's over the bar and that should be half-time.
45'

ANOTHER FREE-KICK FOR AUGSBURG

And this one is within shooting range for Max...
43'

KAINZ OFF TARGET

A second proper chance for Cologne as Hector gets to the byline and pulls across the area for Florian Kainz - he tries to pick his spot but sweeps well over the bar.
42'

MAX AGAIN

Another nice delivery from Philipp Max from a deep free-kick, but Jedvaj can't quite position himself right to get on the end of it and the ball rolls out for a Cologne goal kick.
39'

A GOAL BEFORE THE BREAK?

We've had chances galore in this first half - or I should say Augsburg have had chances galore - but we're still waiting for a first goal. The hosts have had 10 attempts compared to just two for the visitors.
35'

NIEDERLECHNER DENIED AGAIN!

Horn is winning his battle with Florian Niederlechner so far today. The home striker latches onto a long ball that takes a rather fortunate deflection, but it's blocked at close range by the Cologne keeper. He must be having a stormer in Fantasy Bundesliga.
34'

TEMPERS FLARING

A little bit of handbags between Katterbach and Sarenren-Bazee after the former fouls the latter. That should be an interesting battle to watch down Augsburg's right flank.
29'

A PSYCHOLOGICAL TURNING POINT?

It was naive goalkeeping from Horn to concede that penalty - Sarenren-Bazee was moving away from goal - but he made up for it with a great save from Niederlechner, who didn't hit his penalty badly at all. Could that give Cologne a psychological boost? They have been very much second-best here so far.
28'

EARLY CHANGE FOR COLOGNE

Katterbach has been brought on in place of Schmitz. It doesn't look like he was injured, so perhaps Markus Gisdol was concerned about going down to 10 men...
27'

HORN SAVES IT!

The Cologne keeper atones for his error with a quite brilliant save. Niederlechner's wait for a first Bundesliga goal since February goes on.
26'

PENALTY FOR AUGSBURG!

Horn chases down a loose ball and trips Sarenren-Bazee! Penalty to Augsburg, very shrewdly played by the home No.17.
25'

UTH BOOKED

The foul here is committed by Schmitz - who is already on a yellow - but it's Uth who goes into the book for dissent.
21'

VARGAS!

Vargas almost inadvertently puts Augsburg ahead. While looking to combine with Niederlechner on the edge of the area, the ball cannons off his shin and almost sneaks past Horn - but the Cologne keeper puts it out for another corner that comes to nothing.
18'

CHANCE FOR JAKOBS!

Cologne make their first real foray into Augsburg territory and there's a fine ball from Ehizibue into the area for Jakobs, who really ought to hit the target from close range. Instead he heads over the bar, which is a real let-off for the hosts.
15'

SCHMITZ BOOKED

Benno Schmitz goes into the book for clattering Sarenren-Bazee. A fourth free-kick in a dangerous position for Augsburg, and it's out for yet another corner.
14'

AUGSBURG APPLYING PRESSURE

The home side are winning corners for fun at the moment. Max goes short this time, plays a quick one-two and crosses in looking for Jedvaj, whose header loops just wide of the mark. Augsburg have already had seven attempts on goal, although only two have hit the target.
11'

AND NIEDERLECHNER AGAIN

It's all Augsburg at the moment. Another teasing corner delivery from Max, it falls nicely to Niederlechner at the back post and Horn has to produce his third save of the game. The second corner comes to nothing, with Richter firing well over the target.
5'

NIEDERLECHNER!

Another chance for the home side, this time it's Niederlechner who forces Horn into conceding a corner. The Augsburg frontman has struck 11 times in the Bundesliga this season, although he's without a goal since the start of February.
3'

FIRST BLOOD AUGSBURG

Max whips in one of his trademark free-kicks and after a bit of pinball in the area, Vargas gets a shot away at the far post, forcing Horn into making an early save.
1'

KHEDIRA WITH THE ARMBAND

In the absence of injured skipper Daniel Baier, Rani Khedira is wearing the captain's armband for Augsburg tonight. We're underway at the WWK Arena!
Kick-off!

SO FAR TODAY...

Wout Weghorst struck a late winner for Wolfsburg to put additional pressure on relegation-threatened Werder Bremen, while Jonjoe Kenny's superb strike saved a point for Schalke at Union Berlin. Head to the homepage for our match reports on both games.

MILESTONE FOR HORN

The Cologne keeper is making his 150th Bundesliga appearance for the club today. Can he celebrate with a clean sheet?

BREAK OUT THE THERMAL BOXERS

The weather may have been glorious for much of the past few months, but it's a chilly 9°C in Augsburg as we prepare for the final game of the weekend. Kick-off is just a few minutes away!

COLOGNE OUT TO SECURE SAFETY

The Billy Goats have only picked up two points from their last five league outings, but victory here in Augsburg would leave them nine points above the relegation play-off place with four games to go, and all but guarantee them a place in the Bundesliga next term. The hosts' need is greater though - they start the game two places below Cologne in the table, with three fewer points.

ANOTHER AUGSBURG HOME WIN?

Augsburg have beaten Cologne on their last two trips to the WWK Arena, with Finnbogason hitting a hat-trick on their last visit (a 3-0 victory in September 2017). It hasn't been a great weekend for home teams, though - so far there have only been two home wins in eight games on Matchday 30, for Freiburg and Borussia Dortmund.

COLOGNE TEAM NEWS

Just the two changes from Markus Gisdol after Cologne's 4-2 loss at the hands of RB Leipzig - Ehizibue and Uth come in for Katterbach and Rexhbecaj. Uth missed the Leipzig game through injury and Cordoba suffered a knock, but both have recovered to front the visitors' attack this evening.

AUGSBURG TEAM NEWS
