WALDSCHMIDT WINS THE DAY

A moment of magic from Luca Waldschmidt was all that could separate the sides. His run and the shot while on the move a real show of his quality, especially to do so away from home and late on in the game. Zack Steffen had saved a second half penalty to keep Fortuna in the game, but there was nothing he could do about that goal. Freiburg into third with 13 points from a possible 18, a remarkable start to the season for them.

FREIBURG INTO THIRD

As things stand, Freiburg will be sitting pretty in third place in the table come the end of Matchday 6. An incredible, and record, start to the season for Christian Streich's side.

A STUNNER FROM WALDSCHMIDT

The Germany international picks up the ball 25 yards from goal and runs across the box on his left foot before smashing the ball back across goal and into the bottom corner. No chance for Steffen with a wonderful strike from Waldschmidt giving Freiburg the lead. Not a bad player to bring off the bench...

DOUBLE CHANCE FOR KARAMAN

Fantastic through ball from Kownacki finds Karaman in behind and in on goal. His first effort is saved superbly by Schwolow but the rebound falls back into space for Karaman to have a second bite at the cherry, but he sends his shot over the crossbar.

GRIFO AND WALDSCHMIDT ON

Streich is going for the win now with two big names off the bench.

GAME OPENING UP NOW

There was a lack of space in the first half which kept each team from providing real attacking intent. But now it's opening up and we're seeing both sides play some more fluid football. We'll see if the chances on goal, and goals themselves, begin to follow.
49'

THOMMY HEADS OVER

Fantastic play from Kownacki who skips past a challenge from a Freiburg defender to set himself away down the left wing. He has plenty of options to pick out in the box and goes to the near post to meet Thommy's run. The German winger meets the cross with his head, but can only send it over the bar.

SECOND HALF BEGINS

We're back underway for the second half in Düsseldorf, no changes made so far.

WORTH THE WAIT

It took a while, but the game got going at the end of the first half here in Düsseldorf and we're set-up perfectly for the second period. Two goals in the space of three minutes, one for either side keep us level. Both sides will be disappointed with the way the goals were conceded, but it should lead to a more open second half.

SCHMID BRINGS US LEVEL

And just like that, we have two goals in the first half and Freiburg are level. Freiburg come forward down the left and Günter has it on the edge of the box. He plays a fantastic low cross to the back post and Schmid times his run perfectly to meet it, after Steffen had failed to do the same. A simple tap-in for him and we're level.

HENNINGS HEADS HOME!

Schwolow will be shaking his head after that. A corner swings in to the back post from Thommy and the Freiburg goalkeeper comes out to punch it, but misjudges it completely. It loops over him and Hennings is able to head the ball into an empty net.

GÜNTER FIRES OVER

A quick break for Freiburg has the left-back flying up the wing. He collects the ball 25 yards from goal and has a go himself, but slices the ball wide of Steffen's goal.
37'

THOMMY HAS A GO

The winger turns inside past Höler and goes for goal from outside the box on his left foot. A simple save for Schwolow, but the home fans applaud the effort, wanting more from their team going forward.

KOWNACKI DOWN

The Polish international has taken a nasty knock on his calf after a challenge with Robin Koch. He's back up and should be able to continue, though.
28'

KOWNACKI WITH OUR FIRST CHANCE

The Polish forward makes the right run at the right time to meet the ball as it drops in the middle of the box in front of goal. But he can only chest it towards the Freiburg goal while under pressure from the defence. Schwolow gathers it with ease.
26'

SCHMID ON THE CROSS

Everything Freiburg are trying attacking wise is coming down the right flank so far. Jonathan Schmid is the main source of their joy and he's already attempted four crosses, but none have connected with a teammate in the Fortuna box.

STORY OF THE GAME SO FAR

The players with the most touches for each team so far are the centre-backs. Telling the story of the game so far, as both teams continue figuring each other out. Fortuna combining slightly better as they move the ball forward, but we're still looking for our first attempt on goal.
11'

LOOKING TO BREAK A DUCK

Freiburg have not won any of their four trips to Düsseldorf in the Bundesliga. Looking to end that run today, with Fortuna only collecting one point from their previous four games. It's all to play for still so far.
7'

TESTING EACH OTHER OUT

Neither side able to take control in the early stages of this game. Freiburg with slightly more attacking intent, but neither Steffen or Schwolow have had saves to make thus far.

UNDERWAY IN DÜSSELDORF

We're underway for the first of our two games today.
Kick-off!

CLAUDE MAKELELE IN THE BUILDING

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid midfielder is in attendance today, keeping a close eye on Chelsea loanee Lewis Baker who starts for Fortuna in the centre of midfield.

SUPER STEFFEN AGAIN?

Fortuna Düsseldorf's Zack Steffen leads the league in shots saved (35). The next best goalkeeper on that list is on 23 saves, having played a game extra. How many saves will he make today?

ABRASHI COMES IN

There's just one change for Christian Streich and his side for today's game as Amir Abrashi comes in for club captain Mike Frantz. The Albanian international is back in the starting line-up for the time since the end of April, and of course, the first time this season.

BACK TO BASICS FOR FORTUNA

In the Rhine Derby defeat at Borussia Mönchengladbach, Fortuna coach Friedhelm Funkel played a three-man defence for the first time this season. He's returned his side to a four-man backline today with Kasim Adams, the scorer of Fortuna's goal in that Gladbach defeat, only on the bench.
