MAINZ DO WHATS NEEDED FOR THE WIN

A superb strike from Robin Quaison and near-post dart from Level Öztunali at the near-post are enough to earn Mainz all three points at home to Cologne. But the home support will be thanking Robin Zentner tonight as well, the No.1 making a host of fantastic saves to keep the Billy Goats attack out. The home side rise to 15th, while Cologne drop into the relegation play-off spot.

ADDED TIME!

We're into three minutes of added time here in Mainz.
87'

WHAT A CHANCE!

Kainz's free-kick is flicked on into the box and Teroode goes for the finish with an acrobatic effort as he falls. He sends his shot looping over the crossbar, though, from the six-yard box.
85'

3-4-3 NOW

Modeste, Terodde and Cordoba are all on the pitch for Cologne now who are going in search of last-gasp heroics.
82'

GAME OVER?

Öztunali is ecstatic and Horn is furious. Onisiwo drives forward with the ball and finds Öztunali going into the box on the right side. He shoots at the near post and beats Horn, who punches the floor with frustration after what was a big mistake from the Cologne No.1 to allow a goal from that position.

ONISIWO SO CLOSE

The substitute is immediately into the action as he turns past Hector - who tries to hold him back and gets booked for doing so - before shooting at the near post of the Cologne goal. Horn makes a block to force it wide.
79'

10 MINUTES TO GO!

Mainz's defence is standing firm as they look to defend this one-goal lead, with Cologne always looking for their equaliser. Let's see who will come out on the winning side with these final 10 minutes to play...
71'

ZENTNER ON FIRE

The Mainz No.1 has saved six of the seven shots he's faced on target so far this evening, with only Terodde's first half effort getting past him.
70'

INTENSE GAME

Neither of these sides are in control of this game, both getting on the ball and moving it forward as well. Cologne doing more of the attacking work so far, with Mainz happier to work on the counter-attack now that they hold the lead. Jhon Cordoba now up front with Terodde, against his former side, is looking to make the home side's defence work harder.
64'

NO PENALTY

After a check from VAR, there is no penalty for Cologne.
64'

VAR CHECK...

We're having a look to see if Cologne will be awarded a penalty after a handball from Niakhate.
62'

SUBLIME EFFORT FROM TERODDE

Hector stretches to reach the ball in the middle of the pitch and send Terodde in on goal. But the ball is running away from him as well and he has to stretch to shoot at goal, but Zentner is on hand again to make a fantastic save. He's on fire tonight.

WHAT A GOAL FROM QUAISON!

That's right out of the top drawer from the Sweden international. He has the ball in a normal position, 25 yards from goal. He has space in front of him and goes for goal, bending a fantastic shot away from Horn and into the top corner for his fourth goal of the season. Very few goalkeepers would have been able to stop that.

SCHAUB AGAIN!

This time Schaub is on the left wing as he cuts inside past Brosinski, who thought he was going for the cross. Schaub then shoots at goal with a curling effort on his right foot and forces a solid save from Zentner.
50'

SCHAUB SO CLOSE

The winger is inside the pitch and moves the ball onto his left foot as he makes his way to the edge of the box. His shot at goal is deflected on the way but still makes Zentner dive at full length to his right. The ball, with the deflection, rolls just past the Mainz goal. A bright opening to this half again for the away side.

ENTERTAINMENT GALORE

We've had 19 shots on goal in a fantastic first half in Mainz. Two lovely goals from Simon Terodde and Jean-Paul Boetius have us level with a second half definitely worth watching coming up. It's definitely been a Karneval-style game on the pitch from these two sides.

WIDE PLAY IS THE WAY

The players with the most touches so far for Mainz are Brosinski (28) and Martin (29) - the right and left-backs - who are both effectively wing-backs. Most of those touches will have come in the Cologne half as well.
36'

QUAISON SHOT BLOCKED

That would've been 2-1 if not for some fantastic defending. Brosinski is on the overlap down the right flank and crosses to the near post- Quaison meets it and clips the ball towards goal, but Bornauw is in the way and makes a crucial block to deny what looked to be a certain goal.
31'

COUNTER CHANCE

The away side break away with numbers and it ends with a shot from right-back Ehizibue, but Zentner handles it with ease.
25'

START AS YOU MEAN TO GO ON

This has been a fantastic start to Matchday 9 here in Mainz. Both sides playing for the win with attack-minded football, and we've seen two cracking goals. We're standing on 12 shots in total inside just 25 minutes. Long may it continue at the OPEL Arena.

ANOTHER STUNNER!

Our second cracking goal of the evening comes via Jean-Paul Boetius. Szalai holds up the ball with his back to goal and a defender on his back. He chips the ball through the Cologne defence to meet the run of Boetius, who keeps composure to fake the ball past one defender before slotting it home past Horn.
20'

CLOSE FROM ÖZTUNALI

A cross to the back post of the Cologne box finds Leven Öztunali in space. The German meets the ball well on the volley, bouncing it into the ground in front of him, but it's just wide of the mark with Horn able to let it go past the post.
17'

KUNDE FIRES OVER

Half chances for the home side bringing them into the game after a quarter of an hour being played. A shot from the edge of the box had Horn worried, before Kunde fired a volley over the bar minutes later. The home side now getting on the ball and getting their attacking play grooving.
14'

A STUNNER FROM TERODDE

Cologne work the ball down the left flank and the ball is played inside to Hector. He flicks the ball onto Schindler, who returns the ball into the box and Terodde controls it. He turns on a six-pence and smashes a half-volley into the far bottom corner on his left foot, beating the outstretched hand of Zentner with a fantastic finish.

COLOGNE STARTING WELL

The Billy Goats have picked up four points from three games on the road so far this season and look good again this evening. Kainz and Schaub providing some magic in the Mainz half while the defence and midfield are standing solid. Mainz being made to work for their possession so far.
8'

TERODDE HEADS OVER

The Cologne striker has his first chance of the game as he moves into the box and meets Schaub's dinked cross to the back post, but he can't keep his effort on target.
6'

GOOOO... NO!

Florian Kainz has the ball in the Mainz net, but his strike won't count. Zentner had made the first save but Kainz was there to meet the rebound and hit it home. However, the midfielder was offside when he reached the second ball.
