LEIPZIG STAY SECOND, SCHALKE STILL BOTTOM
A routine win in the end for Leipzig, who had far too much for Schalke in the second half.

ORBAN!!!
Fährmann dives full stretch to deny Hwang a first Bundesliga goal, but is beaten from the ensuing corner by Orban's looping header. Woeful defending.
84'
QUALITY ON THE BENCH
No questioning Leipzig's strength in depth as Haidara and Hwang replace Sabitzer and Nkunku. Looks like Mukiele will end the game in a more advanced role, with Klostermann in the back three.

MUKIELE!
Another corner, another Mukiele header - but this time, Fährmann makes the save!

HOPPE MAKES WAY
Matthew Hoppe has led the line admirably, despite having precious little to feed on. The American looks like a serious talent - and is perhaps Schalke's best hope of survival. Suat Serdar, the club's seven-goal top scorer last term, is on.

DAYLIGHT!
Lovely goal! Poulsen wins a header, flicking the ball into the path of Olmo, who feeds countryman Angelino in the box. The Man City could take it on himself, but instead cuts back to Sabitzer... bang! Low and out of reach of Fährmann - can't see a way back for Schalke now.

FRESH LEIPZIG LEGS
Poulsen is on after scoring twice from the bench in midweek. Klostermann also enters the fray in another like-for-like switch on the right-hand side.

DOUBLE CHANGE
Mascarell was never going to see out the remainder after his earlier yellow card. Young Malick Thiaw is on, while Benito Raman replaces the anonymous Alessandro Schöpf in attack.

A WHISKER AWAY!
Leipzig so close to a second! Angelino does really well coming in off the left. He breezes past William and threads a cute ball into the path of Nkunku, who side-foots agonisingly wide from the edge of the area.
54'
FÄHRMANN AGAIN!
Schalke are living dangerously as Nkunku lets fly from 12 yards, but Fährmann beats it away.
47'
SORLOTH!
Sorloth steal a yard on Mustafi in the box, but his header from Olmo's cross is well waved by Fährmann.

LEIPZIG LEAD!
Too easy for Leipzig. Mukiele shakes off the attentions from a corner, heading in Nkunku's in-swinger on the stroke of half-time. Horrible time to concede for Schalke, who'd otherwise been pretty resilient.

UTH CROCKED
Mark Uth can't continue. It looks like a thigh problem - Boujellab is on.

ADAMS GOES DOWN
Adams hits the deck under Kolasinac's attempted challenge in the Schalke box. The referee is unmoved, though. The American was perhaps already on his way down as he tried to jump over the Schalke left-back in pursuit of the ball.
35'
UTH!
Mukiele's attempted pass out from the back is careless to say the least. Uth picks it off and spots Gulacsi out of position, but his first-time attempt doesn't trouble the Leipzig No.1. Let-off.

LEIPZIG ON TOP
Olmo has a crack, but doesn't test Fährmann. Another Leipzig free-kick then causes panic in the Schalke area, with Upamecano flicking on Nkunku's delivery. The second ball is cleared, though.
30'
ONE TOUCH TOO MANY
Sorloth turns away from his man on the edge of the Schalke area. He's in a congested spot in the box, and can't release the ball in time to make anything of his attempted pass.
27'
RASH CHALLENGE
Mascarell has no right to contest that one. He caught Nkunku very late, and right on the ankle. The Spaniard will have to watch his step now...
25'
HALF CHANCE!
Leipzig come again as Nkunku thrashes an effort goalwards from 18 yards. It takes a wicked deflection, but nestles wide of the post with Fährmann beaten. Schalke clear the ensuing flag-kick.
21'
OPEN GAME
Hoppe shows a superb first touch with his chest, but the American's crowded out as he attacks the Leipzig area. The visitors go straight on the offensive, winning a corner after Sabitzer's shot from inside the area was deflected behind. Nothing doing from the delivery, though.

OLMO CHANCE!
Mustafi concedes a free-kick in a dangerous position. Upamecano wins the header from Nkunku's delivery, Mascarell only half clears and Olmo duly takes aim. He's only 10 yards out, but Fährmann is there with the save.

SCHALKE ON THE BACK-FOOT
Schalke are hemmed in as Leipzig win a free kick in the home side's half. Angelino bends it into the danger zone, but the blue shirts clear. Backs to the wall stuff already...

UNDER WAY
The ball's rolling at the Veltins-Arena. Schalke are winless in four since beating Hoffenheim on Matchday 15 - their first victory in 31 league games dating back to January 2020. The Royal Blues also lost 1-0 to Wolfsburg in the DFB Cup in midweek.
Kick-off!
LEIPZIG HEAVY FAVOURITES
Leipzig have scored 32 goals to Schalke's 17 so far this season. Nagelsmann's side have conceded a league-low 18 - the Royal Blues' a Bundesliga-high 49.
KABAK OUT - MUSTAFI IN
Schalke cherry-picked Arsenal-owned Shkodran Mustafi as their replacement for Ozan Kabak, who joined Liverpool on loan on deadline day. The 28-year-old, who was part of the Germany squad that won the 2014 FIFA World Cup, brings a wealth of experience to the table, but has never played in the Bundesliga. His last game for a German club was in the colours of Hamburg's U19s, back in June 2009.
OPPOSITE ENDS OF THE SPECTRUM
Schalke are rock-bottom after 19 matches, seven points adrift of the relegation spot occupied by promoted Arminia Bielefeld. Leipzig begin the weekend in second place, 10 points behind leaders Bayern Munich, who won 1-0 at Hertha Berlin on Friday.

WATCH: LEIPZIG THRASHED SCHALKE ON MATCHDAY 3
SCHALKE TEAM NEWS
Returning striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar misses out altogether, but Shkodran Mustafi goes straight into the starting line-up at centre-back following his deadline day transfer from Arsenal. Wolfsburg loanee William also makes his first Schalke start, with right-back Timo Becker unavailable due to a thigh strain. Midfielder Suat Serdar is only fit enough for a place on the bench following illness.
LEIPZIG TEAM NEWS
Julian Nagelsmann makes four changes to the side that beat Bundesliga 2 outfit Bochum 4-0 in the DFB Cup last 16 in midweek. Dayot Upamecano and Nordi Mukiele return in defence at the expense of Lukas Klostermann and Marcel Halstenberg, while Kevin Kampl and Dani Olmo come into midfield for Amadou Haidara and Lazar Samardzic respectively.
