MODESTE WINS IT!

The Billy Goats climb to sixth after eking out three hard-earned points. They deserved the win too, having dominated their visitors for much of the match, and ultimately Modeste's class in the final third proved the difference.

LUCKY 13

Modeste's strike marks the 13th time this season that Cologne have scored in the final 15 minutes. The Frenchman has now put his side 1-0 up seven times in 2021/22.

MODESTE BREAKS THE DEADLOCK!

Who else? The substitute lurks on the shoulder of the last man and is quickest to react to a loose ball bouncing his way. He charges into the Frankfurt box and coolly slots it under Trapp to put Cologne ahead with his 15th Bundesliga goal of the season.

COLOGNE GOING FOR IT

Baumgart senses his team can win this one and makes a double change accordingly for the last 10 minutes, Schindler and Thielmann coming on for Ljubicic and Kainz.
78'

MODESTE ALMOST IN

The ball breaks kindly for Modeste, who suddenly finds himself bearing down on goal in the Frankfurt box. He's a bit too wide to go for a shot but he's attempted square pass for a teammate is cut out by N'dicka.
77'

FRESH LEGS

Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner shakes up his attack by bringing on Hauge for Lindstrom.
71'

KAMADA SLICES WIDE

Chandler scurries down the right and floats a cross into the boxes. It bounces all the way through to Kamada on the far side of the area. He controls it well but doesn't make a clean connection with his left-footed shot and it spins well wide.
69'

NO END PRODUCT

For all their hard running and battling, Frankfurt haven't managed to produce a shot at goal yet in this second half.
66'

NO HOLDING BACK

Cologne are edging a physical encounter in the challenges stakes, but they're certainly not having things all their own way of late.

PROMISING FROM FRANKFURT

Borre charges forward from midfield and plays it to his left to Kostic. He digs out a cross from the byline that for a moment looks like it'll reach Sow, prowling in the centre, but a Cologne foot manages to hoof the ball clear.
61'

HERE COMES MODESTE!

Cologne's 14-goal top scorer takes to the pitch, with Andersson making way. Can the 33-year-old prove the difference maker?
58'

PROMISING FROM COLOGNE

The hosts counter on the left, with Kainz and Özcan causing mischief. They're eventually crowded out though.
53'

GOALS ON THE CARDS?

The standalone Saturday evening fixture in the Bundesliga has not ended goalless in more than a year. The last time there was a 0-0 in this time slot was between Union Berlin and Schalke on 13 February 2021.
51'

CAN KAMADA MAKE THE DIFFERENCE?

It's a more attacking line-up for Frankfurt in this second half, with Kamada on for the more defensively minded Rode. The visitors could certainly do with a moment of inspiration from the Japanese playmaker.
49'

KAINZ CURLS OVER

Cologne win a free-kick around 25 yards from goal. Kainz takes it but can't get enough dip on the ball and it flies over the target.

NOTHING IN IT

It's been great entertainment so far, even if there have been no goals. Cologne have been on top but Frankfurt have arguably had the better chances. It's a game that's surely crying out for Modeste and he'll no doubt come on sooner rather than later if there's no change in the second half.

CHANCE FOR COLOGNE!

Uth scampers down the left and crosses into the middle for Andersson, 10 yards from goal. It's a brilliant opportunity but it skews off his boot, hits another player and goes over.
44'

COLOGNE STIFLING KOSTIC

Kostic's crosses from the left are one of Frankfurt's main weapons, but as a team the visitors have only managed one cross from open play thus far.
41'

KAINZ FROM DISTANCE

The Cologne midfielder does well to fashion some space around 25 yards from goal, but it'll take something very special to beat Trapp from there. Suffice to say that Kainz's left-footed drive is no trouble for the Frankfurt custodian.
38'

FRANKFURT ALMOST IN!

Borre charges down the right, closely watched by Killian, but the striker slips a pass inside him to the onrushing Lindstrom, who darts into the box. He's at a bit of an angle but could shoot. Instead, he opts to attempt a square pass to the unmarked Kostic arriving at the back post. It's a simply tap-in if the ball arrives, but it hits the leg of a defender and bounces out. Lindstrom holds his head in anguish.
34'

BORRE'S FIRST ATTEMPT

The Colombian spies Horn off his line and tries a chip from 25 yards to catch him out, but it's always curling wide of the target.

COLOGNE BOSSING IT

Goals are the only stat that really count of course, but this at least gives an indication of the home side's dominance so far.

WIDE FROM ÖZCAN!

The corner comes in from the right and eventually comes to Özcan at the back post. He's unmarked but the ball is bouncing at an awkward height. The midfielder goes for a diving header but can only direct it narrowly wide of the upright.
26'

ANDERSSON TESTS TRAPP

The Cologne forward does well as he receives the ball inside the box with his back to goal. He rolls Tuta and gets a shot away from a tight angle, but Trapp is guarding his near post and saves for a corner!

HINTI SAYS NO

Frankfurt defender Martin Hinteregger is one of the reasons why it's still goalless so far. The Austrian has won 60 percent of all his duels and completed 80 percent of all his passes.

LJUBICIC MUST SCORE!

This is Cologne's best chance of the game! Hector does well down the left and crosses into the middle. Andersson can't quite control the ball but it goes through to Ljubicic, unmarked about 12 yards from goal. He drills a first-time effort but it's straight at Trapp, who makes a fine stop!
13'

FULL-BLOODED

Frankfurt have gained confidence from those two glorious chances and are attacking with greater purpose now. But Cologne, roared on by the home support, are continuing to get forward too. Both sets of players are thundering into the tackles - there's a real sense of excitement here. Surely only a matter of time before the first goal.
9'

CHANCE FOR RODE!

For all Cologne's early dominance, they'll be wary of Frankfurt now after their second chance in quick succession. This one falls to Rode about 10 yards out after some nice build-up down the left, but the captain's shot isn't precise enough. That could have been the opener there!
8'

OPENING FOR FRANKFURT!

Lindstrom absolutely skins Hector down Frankfurt's right and crosses into the middle for Kostic, who can't quite hit the target.
4'

COLOGNE WANT IT

The home side are enjoying much the better start here. Frankfurt can't cope with their intensity right now, and the visitors just look a yard slower. The action is concentrated in the Eagles' half, but there haven't been any clear chances to speak ofyet.

MOMENTS AWAY

The teams are on the pitch, the coin has been tossed. Here we go!

TEAM NEWS - COLOGNE

With back-up goalkeeper Marvin Schwäbe unavailable today, first-choice stopper Timo Horn makes his comeback from injury to play for the first time since 21 November last year. He's one of three changes made by head coach Steffen Baumgart: Ljubicic also replaces Duda in midfield while Uth comes in for Thielmann. Top scorer Modeste is back in the squad after missing out through illness last week, but the Frenchman begins on the bench.

TEAM NEWS - FRANKFURT

Ffrankfurt head coach Oliver Glasner makes three changes to the side that lost 2-0 at home to Wolfsburg last week. Chandler comes in for Da Costa at right wing-back, captain Sebastian Rode replaces Daichi Kamada in midfield, while talisman Filip Kostic has recovered from illness to begin, with Christopher Lenz the man to make way.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

It's been remarkably even between these teams in the Bundesliga over the years. Of the 91 top-flight meetings to date, Cologne have won 32 to Frankfurt's 31. There have been 28 draws, including the most recent encounter in September 2021.

FORM - FRANKFURT

The Eagles have blown more cold than hot in 2022. The year began with a home defeat by Dortmund, and was followed by a draw with Augsburg and defeat to Bielefeld. The team's only win in the second half of the season came in Stuttgart on Matchday 21, but any momentum was checked by last week's reverse against Wolfsburg. They've sorely missed winger Filip Kostic, but the Serbian should be back in the starting line-up today.

FORM - COLOGNE

Cologne have been impressive under head coach Steffen Baumgart this season, even if their form in 2022 has been a bit patchy. Two wins, one draw and two defeats is their return so far, although it should be said one of those losses was against Bayern Munich, and the other was last week in Leipzig without the services of top scorer Anthony Modeste, who is set to return to the side today. The Billy Goats have the seventh-best home record in the Bundesliga in 2021/22 (W6 D3 L2), so will be confident of bouncing back.

THE STAKES

Just a point separates these teams at kick-off, with Cologne (ninth) a rung higher than their visitors in 10th. Relegation shouldn't be an issue for either team this season - there's a nine-point gap to the drop zone - so both are looking upwards at the top six.
