MICHEL!

It's all over in Berlin! Michel takes a ball over the top from Baumgartl in his stride, sets himself with his second touch and fires into the bottom corner with his third. Boyata and Kempf caught out at the heart of the Hertha defence - Union are running away with it!

FRESH LEGS

Becker and Awoniyi have worked their socks off in the Union attack, the former registering a goal and assist in a man-of-the-match display. Messrs Voglsammer and Michel are on.

HALF CHANCE

Belfodil wriggles free in the box, but his shot is too close to Ronnow, who gets down well to block.

SPEEDSTER

Becker hit a match-high speed as he raced away to score Union's third goal. Only Mainz's Jerry St. Juste has run faster this season (36.63 kmph).

BECKER ADDS A THIRD!

Ryerson wins back possession in his own half and finds Schäfer. The Hungarian sends Becker scampering through on goal - he has the legs on Boyata and finishes into the bottom corner with aplomb. The Surinamese forward has been a nuisance all game - he deserves that!

DEFENSIVE SWITCH

Heintz has only just returned from injury, so it's Ryerson - usually a right-back - on in the centre of defence for the final 18 minutes or so. Over on the left flank, meanwhile, it's like for like as Oczipka replaces the industrious Gießelmann.

CAPTAIN'S EXAMPLE

Not realising he has company in the Union area, Trimmel sends a backwards header straight into the feet of Mittelstädt. The Hertha sub aims low with his cross, but Trimmel throws himself at the ball to block. Superb recovery!
62'

UNION SUB

Haraguchi makes way. The Japan international took his opener really well - what a way to mark his 145th Bundesliga appearance. Schäfer, who's more of a defensive player, will beef up the midfield.

UNION STRIKE BACK!

What a response! Gießelmann's onside as he receives Becker's slide-rule pass. The cross is measured to perfection, and attacked with vigour as Prömel towers above Kempf to restore the visitors' lead.

HERTHA EQUALISE!

The Olympic Stadium erupts as Hertha level! Great vision from Tousart to release Belfodil between Union's left-sided defenders. Ronnow slips as the ball comes in and, with Maolida lurking, Baumgartl's attempt to clear goes in off his face.

DOUBLE CHANGE

Magath rolls the dice at the start of the second half. Marton Dardai replaces debutant Julian Eitschberger, while Maxi Mittelstädt brings natural width to the table at the expense of central midfielder Vladimir Darida. On paper, that's a positive switcheroo.

ADVANTAGE UNION

information
xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
Union's xG tells you they fully deserve their lead, and they might have had more. Hertha, who have yet to test Ronnow, need a plan B.

CHANCES!

Trimmel is inches away from converting Becker's cross. Becker then cuts inside and fires at Lotka. Union good value for their lead...

SHINS IT!

So close to an equaliser as Maolida connects with Tousart's cross. He swings a boot from his position on the penalty spot, but catches it with his right shin and the ball goes wide.

RIGHT IDEA

Ascacibar wins a second ball on the edge of the area, sending a looped header back in the danger zone, but it's too high for Belfodil in the six-yard box.

HARAGUCHI BREAKS THE DEADLOCK!

Lotka's resistance is broken. He thinks about coming for a Becker cross, but hesitates and is caught in no man's land as Haraguchi throws himself at the ball to head home against his former club.

FIERY!

Pinball in the Hertha box following a Union corner. Gießelmann swipes goalwards, but Lotka gets down well to make another impressive save. He's not happy after being bumped by Prömel, who was following in, and retaliates by knocking the Union midfielder to the ground. He kicked out beforehand - and is lucky to still be on the pitch.

SETTLED

Hertha have relaxed into the game after that worrying start. They're enjoying a decent spell of keep-ball.

WHAT A SAVE!

Gießelmann's cross is met by the head of Baumgart, who is denied a derby goal by a fabulous diving save from Lotka. This untried Hertha defence does not look comfortable.

What a pleasure it is to see and hear capciaty crowds again in the Bundesliga. It hasn't been the same without them!

THE JOVETIC FACTOR

Jovetic is Hertha's biggest goal threat this season, with six goals and one assist in his 16 Bundesliga appearances. He's averaging a goal every 166 minutes, but has struck just once in his six outings this calendar year.

MORE ON THOSE TEAMS

Borussia Dortmund-bound Marcel Lotka deputises for Alexander Schwolow in the Hertha goal. There's a debut for 17-year-old Julian Eitschberger at right-back, with Peter Pekarik in a more advance role. Linus Gechter, Santiago Ascacibar, Myziane Maolida and top scorer Stevan Jovetic also come in. As for Union, Defender Dominique Heintz replaces Paul Jaeckel in the only change to the side that beat Cologne.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING – HERTHA

“There’ll be a full house and the right atmosphere in the stadium,” said Hertha boss Felix Magath at his media briefing on Friday. “I'm really looking forward to the derby. I've usually done quite well in derbies. Union's game is based on mentality - they'll apply pressure from early on, but we're prepared for it. This game is just one of many crucial matches. We need to earn points as fast as we can.”

WATCH: WHAT IS THE BERLIN DERBY?

The eyes of the world will fall on the German capital for this fixture, that brings together football, politics and history in a once divided city. What makes this game so special? Have a watch of the video to find out!

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING – UNION

“Derbies are special, lots of emotions for the fans,” said Union head coach Urs Fischer at his pre-match press conference yesterday. “In the end, the final result is important for us. I’m not sure if I’ve ever experienced three derbies in a season with three wins. We need to bring the intensity again, it's the basics, it's our style. We talked about it today: to give everything for the last six games plus the cup. That mentality is required, like against Cologne.”

WATCH: PREVIOUS MEETING: UNION 2-0 HERTHA

Union dominated proceedings on Matchday 12 when these teams last faced each other, and took a deserved early lead through Taiwo Awoniyi in the eighth minute. Christopher Trimmel doubled their advantage on the half-hour mark, and there was no way back for the Old Lady after that.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Results have been even overall since Union's promotion to the top flight in 2019. Both teams have won twice in the Bundesliga - each time on home turf - while there has been one draw. Union triumphed 2-0 at the Stadion an der Alten Försterei earlier this season, but Hertha have triumphed in both meetings at the Olympiastadion by a combined scoreline of 7-1. However, Union knocked Hertha out of the DFB Cup this season in the quarter-finals in January, adding a pinch of extra spice to today's fixture.

THE STAKES

Hertha are second bottom of the table coming into this one, but still just a point from outright safety, while Union are in the hunt for a top-six finish and a return to European competition next term. Contrasting needs and objectives, then, but you suspect both would really, really just like to get one over their city rivals to take Berlin bragging rights!
