HUGE CHANCE!

Herrmann has a chance to steal a point for Gladbach as a long ball is flicked on by Elevdi into the Union area. Herrmann is in behind on the left but can only fire his shot into the side-netting at the near post.

LATE DRAMA?

Better late than never for the Foals as Gladbach cut open the Union defence with a superb bit of play from Stindl. He attracts three defenders to him before sliding Benes in on goal. The substitute's shot is straight at Luthe and he parries away, but the rebound comes for Hofmann to slide home ahead of the Union goalkeeper.

UNION COMFORTABLE...

Anything can happen in the Bundesliga, but Union are looking comfortable here as they continue to concede possession to Gladbach, without letting them get close enough to goal for a clear-cut chance.
84'

NEXT CHANGE

Benes replaces Neuhaus in the Gladbach midfield.

ANOTHER OF THOSE DAY FOR GLADBACH...

The Foals are heading for a third straight defeat to start the season for the first time since 2003/04.
82'

TRIPLE CHANGE

Voglsammer, Griesbeck and Teuchert all come on here to reinforce the home side with Kruse, Khedira and Öztunali all off.

SCALLY FIRES OVER!

In his third game, that was the best chance for a first goal. Herrmann is found in front of goal after good work down the right from Hofmann. His shot is blocked and comes back to him and so with bodies in his way, he lays off for Scally to shoot at goal, but the American fires over from close range.
79'

AWAY STRUGGLES

Gladbach have won only two of their last 12 Bundesliga away games. They won at Schalke and at Bremen - both relegated - last season.
77'

GROUNDHOG DAY

It's the same story as the first half here in the second half for the Foals. Adi Hütter's side have dominated possession but are lacking some creative spark in attack. With the likes of Embolo and Thuram out, that can be expected. But Union have also created the better chances here from the little time on the ball they have had.
73'

AWONIYI REPLACED

Fresh legs in attack for the hosts with Behrens on in place of Awoniyi.
72'

ZAKARIA CLIPS THE BAR!

What a strike from the Swiss midfielder who fires a shot at goal from all of 30 yards out. It's moving in the air and Luthe is forced to dive to make a save and in the end, the ball clips the top off the crossbar on its way over.
71'

GLADBACH CHANGE

Bennetts comes on to replace Plea.
70'

WHAT AN ATMOSPHERE!

Union's home support are making some big noise here in the capital. Despite the stadium not being at full capacity, the Union fans are creating a fantastic atmosphere.
camera-photo

NOT BACKING DOWN

Union are two goals to the good as we approach the final 20 minutes, but Union have not stepped off the gas one bit.
67'

ÖZTUNALI GOES CLOSE

Another chance straight away as Union win the ball high up the pitch. Awoniyi is in possession and plays a through-ball for Öztunali to chase. He beats Sommer to it, but has to slide to get there and in turn sees his effort drift wide across goal from right to left.
66'

CONSTANT BATTLE

Gladbach have been brighter in the second half, having three shots to Union's zero so far. But as much as they try, the home side continue to be a threat going forward when they do. Gießelmann heads wide from Kruse's free-kick as Union continue to look a threat for more goals.
61'

UNION CHANGE

Ryerson comes on for Haraguchi in midfield.
60'

FINDING SPACE

Gladbach are creating openings through the Union midfield here, as Plea is found on the left and he cuts inside before firing high over the crossbar.
57'

UNION RUNNING HARD

With their home support behind them, the typically hard-working Union are doing their running today.

PLEA IN BEHIND...

The Frenchman is in behind the Union defence and only has Luthe to beat. But he takes far too long in measuring up his shot and Baumgartl recovers to nick the ball away from him.
53'

EVEN START

Both sides have come out well here, with Gladbach once again taking more of the possession in the opening periods. Still no shots on target for them, with Union's three-man defence with two defensive midfielders in front of them working wonders.
52'

TRIMMEL BOOKED!

A second yellow card of the day for Union and this one is for the captain, Trimmel.
48'

KNOCK FOR GIEßELMANN

The Union left-back is taking some treatment on the sideline after a knock to his right knee from Scally. He'll be able to continue.
46'

BACK UNDERWAY!

Two changes at the break for Gladbach as Herrmann replaces Wolf, while Zakaria is on for Kramer.

DOUBLE CHANCE!

Gladbach have their best chance to get back in the game. Hofmann is sent in behind over the top of the Union defence and fires at goal from just inside the area. Luthe makes a big save, but the rebound falls in front of Neuhaus and he should at least get the ball on target, but slides his effort wide of the mark.
41'

AWONIYI AT IT AGAIN!

What a finish, what an assist and what a goal from Union to double the lead. Awoniyi leads the break and finds Kruse, who is then on the edge of the Gladbach half with four defenders around him. He slots in a dream pass through the defence, and Awoniyi runs through to take the ball around the oncoming Sommer before slotting into an empty net. Superb from Union!

WOLF GOES CLOSEST SO FAR!

Finally, Gladbach get their first shot on goal from inside the Union area. Wolf is found on the left side and he does well to dribble beyond Trimmel to earn space for a shot on his left. He goes low and across goal, but Luthe is down to make a fine save.
35'

BIG CHANCE FOR AWONIYI!

Another mistake from Gladbach hands Union their next chance. Awoniyi battles with Elvedi as a ball is played forward, and the Swiss defender's header only sends Awoniyi away. He battles beyond Beyer to earn a shot on goal, but his strike on his left from just inside the Gladbach area only stings the palms of Sommer.
32'

THIRD TIME THE CHARM?

Union have gone 1-0 up in each of their three Bundesliga games so far this season, but only took one point from each of the opening two. Fischer's side are the only team in the league to have gone 1-0 up in each of their games this season.
30'

LIKE LONDON BUSES FOR NIKO...

Sometimes you wait so long for something that when it comes, it comes twice in a row. This is now Gießelmann's second game in a row with a goal. Before that, he had scored only once in 69 games in his Bundesliga career.

HERE COME UNION

The hosts now have their tails up here and are seeing more of the ball, and doing more with it than Gladbach managed in the opening 20 minutes, Urs Fischer's side are transitioning from defence to attack with a lot more speed and intent.
22'

GIEßELMANN HEADS HOME!

Gladbach have had all the ball, but one lapse in concentration and the hosts take advantage. Kramer is caught in possession in midfield and Union fly forward. Haraguchi is found on the right side of Gladbach's area and he floats a cross to the back post where Gießelmann is alone. He measures up a header and buries it across goal into the far bottom corner.

DEFINITION OF INTENSE

Both teams going full-throttle here in this opening phase and it is a very intense game - we've had almost 40 challenges after 13 minutes.

GLADBACH DOMINANT

The Foals are still controlling possession here, but Union have allowed them only three attempts on goal - all of which have been off target.

ON THE BALL

Gladbach enjoying some lengthy spells of possession here, mostly in defence or in defensive midfield. Union's defensive shape is looking solid, which is why we're yet to see a shot on target from either side so far.

UNION'S HOME SUPPORT IS... INCREDIBLE!

12'

ALMOST FOR STINDL!

Hofmann fires a corner in and it's Öztunali out to block it. But his header only deflects the ball further towards goal and it's Stindl who is almost in the right place at the right time to poke in, but Gießelmann is on hand to block that behind.
7'

ENTERTAINING START

Both sides looking confident here in the opening minutes. Both looking to keep the ball and get forward when they are in possession, and both sides looking to press each other into mistakes. It's been an intense start here.
4'

HUGE CHANCE!

Trimmel almost puts Union ahead here with a big chance at the back post. Kruse is out on the left flank and curls in a fine-looking cross. It's headed on by Bensebaini but only to the back post where Trimmel is free and in ahead of his marker, but his volley slices over the crossbar.
3'

GLADBACH ON TOP

The away side have made a fine start here, dominating possession and combining well through midfield. No chances so far, with Union defending well.

HERE WE GO!

The ball is rolling in Berlin as we get underway for the first of our two Sunday games.
Kick-off!

KRUSE AND AWONIYI KEY

Kruse scored 23 goals in 66 Bundesliga appearances for Gladbach across 2013/14 and 2014/15. He's hit 11 in 24 since joining Union in summer 2020. Awoniyi has had a direct hand in six goals in five competitive appearances so far this season.

UNION FAVOURITES?

Union are unbeaten in their last four Bundesliga matches, halfway to their club-record eight-game hot streak. Meanwhile, the Foals have won just two of their last 10 Bundesliga away matches.

UNION FORM

Union have made an unbeaten start to the Bundesliga season, but are also still yet to pick up a win with two draws from two so far against Leverkusen and Hoffenheim. Comfortable wins in UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying has helped the likes of Max Kruse and Taiwo Awoniyi find form.

GLADBACH FORM

The Foals have been up against it at the start of this season, facing Bayern and Leverkusen in their first two games of the campaign. A draw on the opening day was followed up with a disappointing 4-0 defeat last time out. It's 18 years since a new Gladbach coach went longer two or more Bundesliga matches to start a tenure without a win. Holger Fach broke his duck at the seventh attempt, back in 2003/04.

UNION TEAM NEWS

Fischer looks to have settled on a starting XI at the start of this new season, but will be forced into one change for the visit of the Foals after centre-back Friedrich was shown a second yellow card late on in the 2-2 draw at Sinsheim. Baumgartl takes his place in the backline, with Jaeckel on the other side of Knoche in a back three.

GLADBACH TEAM NEWS

After a nightmare of injuries last Saturday, with Thuram and Lainer withdrawn in the first half due to injury - both are out for the foreseeable future with Thuram suffering a ligament tear in his right knee and Lainer a broken ankle - and Plea and Ginter also taken off with knocks in the second half, Gladbach are at least delighted to have Plea back to start. All that means that US teenager Scally swaps flanks to start at right-back, while Beyer starts alongside Elvedi. Bensebaini starts at left-back for the first time this season, while Wolf is likely to come in for Thuram.
