END TO END!
Brunner strikes the left-hand post for Schalke. Cologne go up the other end, where Kaminski is in the right place at the right time to block a certain goal for Lemperle. Superb entertainment in the Cathedral City!

MR. BUNDESLIGA 2
Schalke throw on Terodde, who was the top scorer in the second division last season with 30 goals. Bundesliga 2's record marksman (172 goals) produced eight of his 10 Bundesliga goals to date in the colours of ex-club Cologne.

COLOGNE EXTEND LEAD!
That's surely all three points in the bag now. Adamyan does really well to shield the ball in the area and knock it back to Thielmann. His cross finds Ljubicic, whose towering header hits the post and goes in off the back of the diving Schwolow.

SCHALKE PULL ONE BACK!
The Royal Blues halve the deficit, with their first attempt on goal since the 29th minute. Ouwejan swings in a free-kick from the left, and it's Bülter - stealing in ahead of Hector - who glances a header past Schwäbe.

COLOGNE SCORE A SECOND!
Another VAR review in Cologne's favour gives the home side daylight. Schwolow fumbles as a long throw-in is flicked on. Thielmann's follow-up is blocked, but Kainz sinks the rebound.

COLOGNE LEAD!
Schalke come unstuck from a short-corner routine. Cologne work it really well to the edge of the area and back into the left-hand channel. Hector asks the question with a cross-shot that Kilian is able to poke over the line from close range.

SHOOT ON SIGHT
Ljubicic is given so much room once more as the Schalke defenders back. He lets fly from 25 yards, but Schwolow is able to fend it to safety.

SAFE HANDS
Schwolow pounces on a long-range hit from Thielmann. Cologne are in charge, but Schalke are resticting the space in the final third and limiting them to speculative efforts.

TRIGGER HAPPY
Ljubicic again from range. He's allowed far too much space to set up the shot, which sails just wide.
37'
SCHWOLOW SAVE!
Brilliant from Schalke's new No.1. He hurls himself to his right to repel a strike from Ljubicic that was destined for the top corner.
35'
RED CARD!
The referee reviews a 50-50 between Drexler and Hector. The Schalke midfielder is studs-up on the back of his former teammate's calf as the ball wriggles clear... red card! The promoted Royal Blues are down to 10 men!

THERE'S THE CHANCE!
Cologne should be ahead as Dietz meets Schmitz's right-wing cross. He has the entire goal to aim for but places his attempt too close to Schwolow, who beats clear.

Dietz is onside as Ljubicic clips a ball over the top of the Schalke defence. He stands up Yoshida, but the Japan international forces hims wide and slides in to block the near-post shot behind.

SO CLOSE!
A corner comes in from the Cologne right. It's flicked across goal, but Chabot, who's at full stretch, can't turn it home at the back post.

DISALLOWED!
It won't count. Yoshida, who was masking Schwäbe's view somewhat, is adjudged to have been in an offside position.

PICK THAT OUT!
Belter of a stunner alert in Cologne. Ouwejan's free-kick is cleared only as far as Zalazar, who smashes a deflected effort into the net from 18 yards. The referee is taking a look at it, though, for a possible infringement...

WORTH A GO
Promising run from Zalazar, but his eventual shot deflects kindly into the arms of Schwäbe.

WHO IS FLORIAN DIETZ?
Modeste scoed 20 of Cologne's 52 Bundesliga goals last season. In his stead today is Florian Dietz, who struck 13 times in 18 league appearances in the fourth tier. The 24-year-old, who has never played at a higher than the 3. Liga, makes his Bundesliga debut.

YOSHIDA SKIPPERS SCHALKE
There are no fewer than SEVEN new signings in the Schalke starting XI today, with summer arrival Maya Yoshida taking the captain's armband in the absence of Danny Latza who starts on the bench.
NO MODESTE
The big news from the hosts is that Anthony Modeste is not in the side today, with the club officially announcing that they have agreed a deal with Borussia Dortmund for the French striker. Sporting director Christian Keller has been quoted by Cologne as saying: Christian Keller: “This afternoon we have agreed to Tony Modeste’s wish and reached a verbal agreement over his transfer to BVB. The confirmation of the transfer should come with the completion of the medical, which is planned for tomorrow." Jan Thielmann and Florian Dietz start in attack instead.
