UNREAL SAVE FROM SIPPEL!

A cross from the right is met inside the six-yard box by Guirassy, who pokes it at goal. Normally those go in, no questions asked, but somehow Sippel reacts quickly enough to hook the ball clear! How important could that be?
81'

THE DIFFERENCE MAKER?

On comes Gladbach's long-serving playmaker for the final few minutes. Can he settle the nerves with a late goal?
78'

KING KONE!

Gladbach with more defending to do as Silas tries to work some magic. Kone is there with the block, though. He's been a rock on his return to the starting line-up.
75'

WIDE!

Vagnoman meets a trademark Sosa cross, but the VfB substitute can't find the target. Big chance!
74'

WELL WATCHED

Hofmann asks the question with a teasing ball into the VfB area. Kramer makes his move, but Müller gets there first. Superb goalkeeping.
73'

BODY CHECK

Somebody's been watching the NHL. Mavropanos completely blocked the run of Thuram as he threatened to chase down a ball over the top.
70'

CHANCE NOT TAKEN!

In a central position in the Stuttgart area, Thuram completely miscues his attempted shot. He's kicking himself!
69'

FRESH LEGS

The pace of Silas with 20 minutes to go could really stretch Gladbach. Vagnoman's also on at right-back, after seven games out.
67'

WING MEN

Stuttgart use the flanks to get a couple of balls into the box, but the Gladbach defence stands firm. It feels like another goal is in the offing...
65'

ANTON TO THE RESCUE

Thuram plays in Hofmann, but Anton slides in to make a heroic block before the Gladbach goalscorer can pick his spot.
62'

WORTH A POP!

Gladbach move it well as Plea finds Thuram. Hoffman takes on the first-time shot from 18 yards, but doesn't catch it right and the ball bobbles harmlessly wide.

RUN, AHAMADA, RUN!

The space opens up for Ahamada as he strides through midfield. He makes it into the penalty area before an attempt is made to close him down. The Stuttgart midfielder gets a shot off first, though, with Sippel doing well to block after it took a deflection off Friedrich.

GLADBACH ASKING QUESTIONS

Gladbach immediately on the attack with Kone, who wins a corner. The Foals retain possession after Hofmann's delivery is cleared. Kone then takes aim from distance. It takes a deflection, forcing Müller to parry to safety.

Thuram is penalised for impeding Müller's attempts to claim a Hofmann free-kick, before the whistle sounds for the half-time break. It's been a superb first 45 of football, shaded by Gladbach. More of the same, please!

WHAT A GOAL!

Sippel's pass out from the back isn't the best, but the ensuing passage of play is a beauty to behold. It's gorgeous one-touch stuff to help the ball up to Plea. He holds off two Stuttgart shirts, before guiding an audacious outside-of-the-boot pass into the feet of Thuram. Gladbach's top scorer takes it in his stride as he goes into the box, and dispatches beyond Müller for his joint-league-leading ninth goal of the Bundesliga season.

information
xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
The xG rating highlights the quality of Hofmann's strike - the Germany international's fourth this Bundesliga season. The Foals are unbeaten this term when he's been on target (W1, D1).

OFF THE BAR!

Stuttgart are inches away from drawing level. Guirassy meets Sosa's cross, flicking a header towards the far post. Tomas is at full stretch to direct it goalwards, but his effort goes behind off the top of the crossbar.

Bensebaini with a full-blooded volley from the left-hand side of the area. It's the sort of cultured strike you'd expect from a left-footer, but just too close to the goalkeeper, who beats it away.

Gladbach fell victim to a late Union comeback last time out.

WIMMER'S VIEW

"An evening game at Borussia Mönchengladbach is a challenge for any team. We’re looking forward to it. Gladbach are a team with a lot of individual quality. They have a lot of possession and are capable of producing dominant performances. We want to be compact and play with intensity, as well as being courageous and direct.
camera-photo

KONE READY FOR THE CHALLENGE

Kouadio Kone is back from suspension. The Gladbach midfielder should go straight into the side for that he believes will be a tough test: "The last time I saw Stuttgart play, I saw a good team. They have a strong squad with a lot of individual quality. But we have got that too and know our own strengths. It’s definitely going to be a good, intense match."

HOME FORTRESS

Gladbach, by contrast, have one of the best home records in the Bundesliga this season, winning four and losing two, while scoring over two goals per game on average.

AWAY DAY WOES

While Stuttgart's record against Gladbach gives them cause for optimism here, they have not won a single game on their travels so far in 2022/23, drawing three and losing their two most recent away games. Only three teams have a worse record on the road in the Bundesliga this season: Leipzig, Schalke and Bochum.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

You could be forgiven for assuming Gladbach have the better record in this fixture, but it's actually VfB. The Swabians have won 41 of the 100 Bundesliga meetings to date, compared to Gladbach's 29, with 30 draws. Stuttgart are also unbeaten in their last five games against the Foals (W3 D2) and have won 15 of the 50 match-ups at Borussia-Park (30 percent), with Gladbach winning just once more on home turf (16).

WHO'S IN AND WHO'S OUT?

Gladbach are still missing a number of big-name stars, including goalkeeper Yann Sommer, right-back Stefan Lainer as well as Ko Itakura and Florian Neuhaus, while Jonas Hofmann is a doubt. VfB are in a better situation personnel-wise but must still make do without central midfielder Enzo Millot and winger Tanguy Coulibaly, with Dan-Axel Zagadou and Josha Vagnoman both racing to be fit in time.

GET READY FOR MATCHDAY 13!
