Blushes spared
Kimmich's rocket spares Bayern. Their lead at the top is four points, but credit to Cologne, who were superb.

Bayern are level!
Joshua Kimmich picks up a pass from Upamecano and unleashes an unstoppable swerving strike to break Cologne hearts. You have to say, Bayern deserve that.

Choupo-Moting rounds Schwäbe, but his strike from a tight angle comes back off the post before a flag is raised for offside.

Super Schwäbe!
What a save! The Cologne goalkeeper is at full stretch to push over Müller's goal-bound header after a greart run and cross from Coman.

Collector's item
You have to go all the way back to 9 February 2020 for the last time Bayern failed to score at home in the Bundesliga. The opposition that day? Nagelsmann's Leipzig.

Enough in the tank?
Lemperle, a striker by trade, replaces the energetic Maina. Cologne have done all the chasing this second half, and have already used up their five allotted substitutes.

The ball drops kindly for Musiala on the penalty spot, but Schmitz puts his body on the line to block. Backs to the ball for Cologne now...

Smart from Baumgart. If Cologne are to get a result, they simply have to maintain those high intensity levels.

Coman!
Brilliant from Bayern as Musiala exchanges passes with Choups. It's worked out to Coman inside the box, and it takes a fine reaction save from Schwäbe to prevent the substitute squeezing a shot in at the near post. The leaders have really upped the ante since the restart...

Bayern show a reaction
This is exactly what Nagelsmann will have wanted as de Ligt forces Schwäbe into a finger-tip save from 20 yards. Moments later, Gravenberch grazes the outside of the far post with a shot from distance.

Changes for both sides
Nagelsmann introduces Coman and Gravenberch for Gnabry and Goretzka. Cologne also show two changes, with Ljubicic and Martel the fresh legs in midfield.

Half-time: Bayern 0-1 Cologne
Skhiri's early goal has Cologne halfway to a famous victory. Bayern have been noticably off colour, but take nothing away from the visitors - they've been superb from back to front.

Pavard meets Kimmich's cross, forcing a strong save from Schwäbe. Goretzka is first to the rebound, but heads off target.

Choups!
Davies gets the ball into the feet of Choupo-Moting in the Cologne box. His first touch is right on the money, but he dallies which allows Soldo to put in a decisive recovery block when the shot does come off.

Asking questions
Bayern don't clear their lines following a corner. Kainz collects and sends in a teasing ball that Upamecano puts behind for another flag kick. Very, very impressive from the visitors. Bayern are rattled.

Big chance!
Cologne tear upfield on the counter. Kainz takes possession and whips a ball in behind Davies for Skhiri, but Sommer gets down well to block. Huseinbasic is then denied on the follow-up!

Solid game plan
Cologne are putting in a really disciplined shift in Munich. Their defensive block is making life very difficult indeed for Bayern's attackers as Soldo comes across to stop Goretzka in the box. Can they keep it up?

Wide from Gnabry!
Great chance for Bayern as Goretzka lets Davies' through-ball run for Gnabry. He ghosts inside of Soldo, but caresses his effort wide with only Schwäbe to beat.

Gnabry denied
The first proper chance for Bayern as Gnabry peels off his marker to find space in the left of the box. His left-footed shot is well saved by Schwäbe though.

Mainz finds a little pocket of space on the left. He curls the ball towards the near post, looking for Tigges, but the striker can't quite stretch far enough to get his toe on it, allowing Sommer to collect.

Title talk
Bayern's lead at the top has been cut to three points, with Leipzig going second after trouncing Schalke. Frankfurt, a point back in third, go to Freiburg tomorrow before hosting the record champions on Saturday.
Nagelsmann's take
"The seven goals against Bremen give Köln confidence," warned Nagelsmann. "They're doing well. They play with intensity and are aggressive in their counter-pressing. They play in a very brave, open way. I like that, they want to play football."
The Cologne view
"Even in Munich we want to play our brand of football," affirmed Baumgart at his pre-match press conference. "We want to be just as bold as in the other games and not just ride it out. With a good performance, we can get a good result."
History favours Bayern
'When doesn't it?', you might ask - but still... Cologne last beat Bayern on 5 February 2011 (coming from 2-0 down to win 3-2), and haven't won in Munich since 21 February 2009 (2-1), while Baumgart has lost all five of his previous meetings with Bayern as a coach, and is winless in four against Nagelsmann (D1, L3).

More on those teams
Nagelsmann keeps faith with the same side that drew with Leipzig, meaning Daley Blind and Thomas Müller have to settle for a place on the bench. As for Cologne, Ellyes Skhiri is passed fit to start in midfield. Mathias Olesen is preferred to Eric Martel, while Nikola Soldo replaces the unwell Timo Hübers in the centre of defence.

Billy Goats in seventh heaven
Team news - Cologne
The Billy Goats may have to do without one of the chief architects of their brilliant win over Bremen: Skhiri, who went off with ankle trouble after his sensational volleyed goal. Visiting coach Baumgart is missing plenty of other players, including Kilian, Andersson and Uth, who just extended his contract until 2025. One man who's sure to feature, though, is striker Tigges, who caught the eye with his brace at the weekend.
Team news - Bayern
The Bundesliga leaders are still without long-term absentees Mane, Sarr, Hernandez, Mazraoui and Neuer. Upamecano was forced to pull out of a recent training session with a toe problem, but should have recovered enough to partner De Ligt at centre-back. Further up the pitch, Nagelsmann is expected to deploy Sane, Müller, Coman and Choupo-Moting, although Musiala and Gnabry are top-notch alternatives.
Mane on the road to recovery
He certainly won't feature tonight, but Bayern have been boosted by the news that Sadio Mane continues to recover from the leg injury he suffered against Bremen in early November. The Senegal star is running again and looks set to make his competitive comeback in February.
The sweet smell of victory?
The Cologne fans enjoyed an intoxicating trip to their RheinEnergieSTADION this weekend, now they'll be hoping for another heady performance at the Allianz Arena, where they haven't won in the Bundesliga since February 2009.
Bayern's cushion
Despite a 1-1 draw with RB Leipzig in the first Bundesliga game of 2023, Bayern go into tonight's game with a five-point lead at the top of the table. The teams on their tail aren't exactly the usual suspects, either; Eintracht Frankfurt, Union Berlin and Freiburg, who all sit on 30 points. The Bavarian giants are currently six points clear of Leipzig and seven ahead of Borussia Dortmund, their closest challengers of recent campaigns.
Goalfest ahoy!
One of the standout games of Matchday 17 sees red-hot Cologne, who put seven(!) past Werder Bremen on Saturday, travel to leaders Bayern Munich, who have netted 12 times in their last three Bundesliga home games against the Billy Goats. Goals guaranteed!
