Leipzig run riot
A dismal night for Schalke, but a delightful one for Leipzig! The visitors were two in front within the first 15 minutes and, from that point on, they were able to control the game and put their opponents to the sword. Marco Rose's team are now unbeaten in 15 games and could well be a title contender if they can keep this form up.

Watch: Leipzig triumph 3-0 at Schalke
Schalke struggling
It is a rather different story in Gelsenkirchen, however. A run of six straight defeats led to manager Frank Kramer's dismissal in October, while new boss Thomas Reis has lost four of his first five fixtures. That quintet of matches did include a 1-0 victory over Mainz, though, from which Reis will surely try to draw inspiration ahead of a tough task tonight.
Leipzig cantering
The winter break arguably came at the wrong time for Leipzig, who won 11 of their 13 matches prior to the FIFA World Cup, drawing the other two. They returned to Bundesliga action last Friday with a respectable 1-1 draw at home to Bayern, meaning 'Die Rotenbullen' come into this clash on the back of a 14-match unbeaten run in all competitions.
Welcome to Matchday 17!
Tuesday and Wednesday's games mark the halfway point of the 2022/23 season, and it's Schalke and Leipzig who have the honour of kicking off 'Englische Woche' at the VELTINS-Arena. The Royal Blues are currently bottom, and they'll be feeling a little blue after the weekend's 3-0 loss at Eintracht Frankfurt. Fifth-placed Leipzig drew 1-1 with Bayern Munich in the first game back after the World Cup, and will be looking to steal a march on the three teams just a point above them in the table: Frankfurt, Union Berlin and Freiburg.
