Full time: Leipzig 1-0 Hoffenheim

Christopher Nkunku marked his return to the Leipzig starting line-up with a goal as Marco Rose's side maintained their push for a top-four finish. Die Roten Bullen were the better side throughout, and after Timo Werner and Konrad Laimer missed presentable opportunities, Nkunku showed them how it was done when he collected Emil Forsberg's through ball to slot in the only goal of the game.

information
Ball Recovery Time
Ball Recovery Time gives the time in seconds in which it takes a team to win back the ball following a loss of possession. It also allows conclusions to be drawn about a team's style of play. Only time when the ball is in play is counted (i.e. no breaks in play such as for goal-kicks, throw-ins etc).

Coach view: Leipzig

Marco Rose: "Despite some absentees, we’ve had a positive and focused week of training. Quality alone won’t be enough, we have to be clinical and aggressive on the day. We have our objectives and are doing everything we can to achieve them."

Coach view: TSG

Pellegrino Matarazzo: "I've been with the team for 11 weeks now. We've continuously taken steps forward; the [defeat last week against] Cologne was our first step backward. Now it's a case of taking two steps forward again."

Leipzig: personnel

Rose is without Dominik Szoboszlai and Amadou Haidara as they serve suspensions for a red card and fifth yellow respectively. The former’s absence presents a chance for Christopher Nkunku to make a first start since his return from injury following 45 minutes last week in Leverkusen.

Leipzig: form

Consistency has been the issue for Leipzig in recent months, claiming wins over Gladbach, Hertha Berlin and Augsburg, plus a DFB Cup victory against Dortmund, but they’ve also lost to BVB in the Bundesliga, as well as Bochum, Mainz and most recently Leverkusen. Marco Rose’s side dropped out of the top four as a result last week, but are only two points off Freiburg, whom they visit twice next week as part of a Bundesliga-DFB Cup semi-final double header.

Hoffenheim: personnel

Coach Matarazzo will hope to have midfielder Grischa Prömel fully available soon as he targets a return from a broken ankle. Jacob Bruun Larsen and Justin Che remain long-term absentees, while centre-back Kevin Vogt has been ruled out with a knee complaint. Andrej Kramaric and Christoph Baumgartner should continue in their reversed roles, while Dennis Geiger, Finn Becker and Angelo Stiller are competing for two central midfield berths, although the latter is a doubt for the game after sitting out training during the week with a knock.

Hoffenheim: form

A run of 14 league games without a win, culminating in a 2-1 loss at Freiburg on Matchday 24, saw Hoffenheim’s fall from European contenders to bottom of the table complete. However, a run of three straight wins and a draw at Bayern then brought TSG back above the line. Defeat at home to Cologne last week means they aren’t yet out of danger yet, though. Pellegrino Matarazzo’s side are only four points above the bottom three.

Watch: Hoffenheim 1-3 Cologne - highlights

Hoffenheim slipped back to 14th – four points above the bottom three – after a 3-1 defeat at home to Cologne ended their four-game unbeaten run.

Odds on a penalty?

No team has won more penalties this campaign than Hoffenheim’s seven, while Leipzig have given away eight spot-kicks so far – only Bochum have been penalised more often.

Angel returns

Going the other way at the start of the season, Angelino is on loan at Hoffenheim from Leipzig. He’s his side’s top provider by some distance with seven assists this campaign.

Wing-back swap

David Raum’s eight crosses leading to goals last season for Hoffenheim was a league best alongside Eintracht Frankfurt’s Filip Kostic. But since his summer move to the Red Bull Arena, he’s yet to deliver a single cross for a goal from open play.

One-sided affair

Leipzig have lost just one of their last 11 competitive fixtures against TSG, winning eight and drawing two. The sole defeat was 2-0 in Sinsheim last season.

Third time’s the charm?

Hoffenheim take on Leipzig for the third time this season, having also met here in the DFB Cup round of 16 in February. They lost both encounters 3-1.

Top four at risk?

Leipzig have lost four of their last seven Bundesliga games and now find themselves fifth with five games remaining. However, three of those are at home, where they have won 10 times this season – only Borussia Dortmund have more victories on their own patch (12).
