GAME OVER
Bochum have their first point of the season but it was almost more. The hosts led via Schmitz's own goal early on but Maina's drilled finish at the end rescued a point for Cologne. On the balance of play, a draw seems a fair result.

ALMOST COLOGNE
Nikola Soldo at the death! The ball lands at the defender's feet right in front of goal but he's leaning back and lashes over the crossbar. What a chance that was.

AMAZING RIEMANN
What a save Manuel Riemann! Maina was offside so this wouldn't have counted but applause is due for that clawed-out stop from the Bochum custodian who denied the Cologne man from point-blank range.

CLASH OF HEADS
Schmitz and Osei-Tutu have a clash of heads and both go down in a lot of pain. A little treatment and both are back to their feet. It looks like this is the end of Schmitz's day anyway ....

"LESS TALKING, MORE DOING"
Bochum have brought in the club's Under-19 coach, Heiko Butscher, for today's game after Thomas Reis was dismissed last week. Here's what VfL's interim boss said ahead of his side's crucial encounter: "I wanted to put down a marker that there’s not always a need to talk. It’s important to make conversations [of course]. We spoke a lot about how we are planning to perform on Sunday. But, my plan this week was less talking, more doing."
THE SEASON SO FAR
Cologne dropped to seventh after their 1-0 loss to Union. They also have Thursday's UEFA Europa Conference League meeting with Slovacko to factor into their preparations. Needless to say Bochum will be hoping for a continental hangover. They've conceded a league-high 18 goals, scored a league low four and are the worst finishers (-3.8 per xG).
WELCOME!
Cologne's unbeaten start to 2022/23 was ended at the hands of high-flying Union Berlin last weekend. Can the Billy Goats bounce straight back against rock-bottom Bochum, who - pointless after six games - parted ways with head coach Thomas Reis following the derby loss to Schalke. Stay tuned!
