Wolfsburg down to 10
Well, this is silly from Lacroix. Given the captain's armband today he received a booking for a foul that led to the opening goal before now making a blatant foul on Njinmah which sees him sent off.
87'
Ducksch is done
His beauty opened the scoring but Ducksch's day is done. Njinmah is on in his place for the away side.

Baku and Kaminski on
Maehle and Paredes have been excellent today but both make way with just over five minutes to play. Baku and Kaminski are on in their place as the hosts search for a winner.

Ducksch clean through...
A wonderful ball over the top sets Ducksch clean through on goal but he chooses to square the ball and his tame pass is cut out. It's called back for offside eventually but that was close.

One change apiece
Each team makes a sub with 15 minutes to play. Cozza on for the hosts, Lynen for the visitors. Not long to go now.

Appeals for handball
There's a quick check for handball in the Wolfsburg box but, although the ball strikes Bornauw on the arm, it's not in an unnatural position and not a penalty as a result. Play goes on...

More goals to come?
Neither of these sides have earned a draw so far this season but they keep pegging each other back here. Is this the day they each share a point or can someone take all three? We've got 20 minutes left to find out.
65'
Werder level!
Once again, Werder score completely against the run of play. This time, Borré heads home Schmid's pinpoint cross from the right to make it 2-2. Great ball, great header, not so great defending.
64'
Bittencourt booked
A hefty tackle in the middle of the park sees Bittencourt shown a yellow card. Can't have done his nose any good that, either.
60'
Right place, right time
Just like the first Wolfsburg goal, Maehle plays a massive role here as he drives to the byline before cutting back for Majer to expertly touch the ball into Paredes' path. It's a tap-in for the American and fair reward for a good performance so far tonight.
58'
Double change
Wolfsburg are the first to reach into the bench, with Arnold and Tomás entering the fray. Bit surprised to see the goalscorer, Černý, withdrawn as, alongside Paredes, he has been their biggest attacking threat.

Improved Werder
It's been a really positive start to the half from Werder and much improved on the first 45. We're still level as it stands, though.
52'
Wide from Stage
Stage sneaks in at the back post and rises highest but can only send the ball wide. Difficult chance but an early second-half chance nonetheless.

Half-time
45'
Better from Bremen
The game has suddenly opened up on the brink of half-time and Bremen put together a nice move of their own but Deman can't convert with his header.
42'
Excellent movement
Wolfsburg really are enjoying themselves now. This time, neat passes from Paredes and Wind almost find Černý for a tap-in but he just can't collect the ball on the run.
40'
Hosts turn the screw
That equaliser has put the wind in Wolfsburg's sails and they nearly have a quickfire double but Wind's smart shot is saved well b y Zetterer. Werder need to get to half-time unscathed now, you feel.
37'
Wolfsburg level
Finally, Wolfsburg's patience pays off. Friedl tries to see the ball out at the byline but Maehle keeps it alive and slides in to tuck back to Černý, who fires home with his second goal for the club. You can't say it hasn't been coming.
32'
Good save Pervan
Out of nowhere, Werder almost double their lead as Schmid's deflected effort forces a good save from Pervan. That would have been harsh on the home side but they need to be careful, another goal against them could kill this game already.

Werder have still had just one shot

Lacroix goes close
A nicely worked free-kick from the left sees Lacroix get on the end of Svanberg's cross but his header doesn't have enough power and is dealt with comfortably. Wolfsburg edging a little closer to an equaliser.
20'
Lively Paredes
New USA international Paredes has seen a lot of the ball on the left so far and he's looked full of energy every time he's got it. He's been the biggest threat for the home team thus far.

Costly booking
Well, that has proven a very costly foul and booking from Lacroix. It's right on the edge of the Wolves' box and Ducksch steps up to fire the subsequent free-kick home in style. It's against the run of play but Werder won't care one bit.
6'
Early booking
That's very much a case of "showing them you're there" as skipper for the day, Lacroix, picks up an early booking.
5'
Wolfsburg start well
It's been all Wolfsburg in the early moments of the game. They're very composed on the ball and it's neat and tidy stuff so far from the hosts.

More on the Wolfsburg team
Wolves skipper Max Arnold is dropped to the bench today, with Maxence Lacroix taking the armband. Pavao Pervan keeps his spot in goal for the third game in a row, while Paredes again starts further forward. Moritz Jenz is absent at the back, with Sebastiaan Bornauw coming in at centre-half.
More on the Bremen team
Werder are very much as expected today, with Werner naming an unchanged side from the one that beat Union 2-0 last weekend. It means exciting young forward Justin Njinmah again starts from the bench.

A heads up for everyone joining us for today's live blog that kick-off at 3.30pm CET, with team news due to drop an hour before then. Set your alarms now, pop alerts on in our app and make sure you receive those teams as soon as they land.
As it stands
There are just three points that separate hosts Wolfsburg and visitors Werder Bremen going into today's first game of two. The Wolves can leapfrog Freiburg into eighth with a win, while Werder could take their opponents' place in ninth if they claim all three points by more than a one-goal margin.

Danger man
Jonas Wind has scored eight of Wolfsburg's 13 Bundesliga goals so far this season, giving him a league-high 62 percent proportion of all his side's strikes. No other VfL player has found the net more than once on the league yet.
Something's got to give
Wolfsburg and Bremen are two of the five Bundesliga teams - alongside Stuttgart, Hoffenheim and Union Berlin - not to have drawn a league game so far this season. Werder are the only side yet to pick up at least a point away from home in 2024/24.
Wolfsburg woes
The Wolves' three-game losing run is the first of its kind under Niko Kovač.

The stakes
Wolfsburg are in ninth place going into the matchday, three points and three places better off than Bremen. The Wolves aren't in their best form at present though, having lost their last three Bundesliga assignments. Werder ended a three-game losing run of their own at the weekend with a 2-0 victory over Union Berlin.
