Glass half empty

Emil Forsberg was part of the Leipzig team which secured their place in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League with two group games to spare by beating Crvena zvezda in midweek, yet he felt there was still plenty of room for improvement. He told DAZN: "[It was a] great atmosphere, great stadium, great fans. We played a very good first half in which we found solutions, but we should have scored more goals. In the second half, we weren't calm enough and were too sloppy in creating our own game. They're good, it wasn’t easy here."

Sorrow after success

Christian Streich will not need reminding of his side's results in the Bundesliga following a midweek Europa League outing. They have picked up just one point from a possible nine following their continental excursions (0-0 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt) and will be hoping for no such sorrow following success this Sunday.

Streich's view of Leipzig

“I hope that we can carry this momentum forward to Leipzig,” Streich said after his side all but secured their place in the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League by beating Backa Topola 5-0 on Thursday. “The game against Topola should really give us a boost; we’ve been dropping too many points in the Bundesliga.”
camera-photo

Rose's view of Freiburg

"Freiburg are a good team. They've lost their goalkeeper, but have found some stability and have improved across the board. They've got their own aims, but people also expect things from them, as they've been in the Europa League for the last couple of seasons - in that sense, they're similar to us. Teams struggle from time to time, but Freiburg always react well. Freiburg's season has also been very similar to ours up to this point. Now, both teams will be aiming to achieve more success."

A wanted record

Timo Werner has 10 goals in his 13 Bundesliga meetings with Freiburg and has only scored more against Mainz (13). Unfortunately for Leipzig, Werner is a doubt through illness.

Unwanted record

Lucas Höler is goalless in his 13 competitive matches against Leipzig. He has not played against any other team as many times in his professional career without scoring at least once.

Leipzig on top

Leipzig are unbeaten against Freiburg in nine competitive matches and seven in the Bundesliga. They even beat Freiburg three times last season (twice in the league, once in the DFB Cup) and saw off Christian Streich's team in the final of the 2021/22 DFB Cup final.
