Full-time: Bochum 1-1 Cologne

Bochum were denied a first home win of the season by a Davie Selke strike against the run of play, and more than just a small dose of heroics from Marvin Schwäbe in the Cologne goal. Lukas Daschner's goal on his starting debut for Bochum looked to be good value for all three points before Selke struck his third of the season with practically the guests' first attempt. The hosts pushed for a winner, but had to settle for a draw which leaves them three points ahead of their guests, who continue to prop up the division.

Late twist?

Both sides getting to chances, with Bochum looking the most likely to score - but who would have bet on Selke's goal? So will there be a late twist in this game?
74'

Double save

It is carnival season and perhaps Schwäbe in the Cologne goal is actually a robot dressed up as a goalkeeper, because he has just made two more sensational saves to keep his team in the game. How could he keep those efforts out?

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals > xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals > goals).
Will Bochum rue their missed big chances?

So, so close!

A direct Stöger free-kick is saved spectacularly by Schwäbe and Asano comes in as the ball drops back down, but he heads wide. Two more big - no, HUGE - chances for Bochum.

Top-scorer

Selke's third goal of the season makes him Cologne's joint top-scorer for the season.
67'

Big chance for Bochum

Chances at both ends now, and hardly any bigger than this one for Daschner! He does not really get the direction on the shot he wanted, but still guides the ball off the outside of the post.

Riemann!

All of a sudden, it is Cologne going close to taking the lead! Riemann sticks a strong arm out to turn a Thielmann effort behind for a corner.

Shoulder to shoulder

This game could go either way after that equaliser, with both sides pushing shoulder to shoulder for the points.

Out of nothing, Cologne are back on terms! It's carnival time in Bochum as Selke strokes in Maina's cross to conclude a counterattack with a class finish.

Asano again!

Riemann launches Asano with some route-one football, and this creates another one-against-one situation for the Japanese, but his first touch takes him wide of the ideal angle and he skews his effort wide, the ball actually going out for a throw-in in the left.
50'

Asano denied!

Asano could have put these points into the safe! Faced with only Schwäbe to beat, the Cologne goalkeeper sticks his arm out and manages to make a fine save to keep his team in it - not for the first time tonight.

No changes

Half-time: Bochum 1-0 Cologne

Daschner's first Bundesliga goal on his first Bundesliga start is the difference between the two sides at the interval, but the hosts have been asking all of the questions and will wonder if just one goal is enough of a reward for their efforts.

Cologne need to react

It has been a largely one-sided first half with Bochum on top, leaving Cologne behind and rooted to the foot of the Bundesliga, unless they can claw a way back into this game.

First for Daschner, first for Bochum?

The last time Bochum won at home in the Bundesliga was on the final day of last season. Could there be another first for the season coming for them, after Daschner's first Bundesliga goal?

Special occasion?

November 11 is famously the start of carnival season, and Cologne are famously quite keen on carnival. So can this be a special occasion for them? Well, you have to go back 23 years for the last time the Billy Goats marked 11/11 with a win (4-2 vs. Hamburg). That was even the last time they played on 11/11! 11.11. bestritt der Domstadtlub vor 23 Jahren, damals siegten die Geißböcke zu Hause 4:2 gegen den HSV.

Captain crocked

For the first time this season, Anthony Losilla is unable to lead Bochum out due to illness. It is only the second time since Bochum were promoted back to the Bundesliga that the Frenchman has to miss a game due to illness or injury, though he has been suspended for three matches.

Selke starts

Just the one change for Cologne with Davie Selke (pictured) starting instead of Steffen Tigges.

Two new starters

Thomas Letsch makes two changes to the side that beat Darmstadt. Instead of Moritz Broschinski and club captain Anthony Losilla, Lukas Daschner and Moritz-Broni Kwarteng come in for what is - for both - a starting debut.

Letsch's view on Cologne

“Cologne are a team that play with a great deal of intensity, both with and without the ball, but I’m 100 percent convinced that we’ll deal with that and that we’ll show the intensity that has been our calling card this season. It’ll be a battle between two teams that won’t give the other anything.”
camera-photo

Baumgart's view on Bochum

“What I think they're doing very well this year is that they're very aggressive and have a very high intensity when it comes to pressing their opponents. That's also where we naturally want and need to find solutions for our game. We know what to expect from our opponents in terms of emotion, mentality, and willingness to put in the legwork."
