Matarazzo's view on Bayern

"Obviously, playing Bayern away on the first matchday [of the year] is a top moment, an emotional moment. That’s what we play football for. We’re looking forward to a top match. First and foremost, be aware of our strengths. We’ve scored in each of our last 20 games, which means wanting to score goals and doing so. At the same time, apply the biggest leverage where we can apply it – namely being solid in defence, defending well as a unit and a team, good pressing and counter-pressing sequences. Then we have a good chance.”
camera-photo

Tuchel's view on Hoffenheim

"It feels like we're ready. We've trained well. There was still some rust in Basel. We then stepped things up a bit. I'm very pleased and feel we're absolutely ready. Everyone's fighting for their place. The spirit is there and I'm optimistic. I'm expecting a back three/five. They're very dynamic. We'll be prepared for it. They have a lot of pace up front. They have a lot of different types of players, can play and are good on the counter. Our counter-pressing will be important."

Bayern - the season so far

Bayern are four points behind leaders Leverkusen, albeit with a game in hand at home to Union Berlin to come on 24 January. The defending champions have slipped up on three occasions, drawing with Bayer and Leipzig and losing 5-1 to Frankfurt, but ended 2023 on a three-match winning run in all competitions. The 21-goal Kane has been the standout performer - he's only failed to score in three of his 15 Bundesliga outings and is on course to break Robert Lewandowski's 41-goal record for a single campaign.

Hoffenheim - the season so far

Pellegrino Matarazzo's TSG resume their campaign in seventh place, three points behind fifth-in-the-table Borussia Dortmund, but with only one win in their last seven Bundesliga games. However, they are this season's third-best away team (16 points from eight games). Kramarić and Maximilian Beier are the club's six-goal top scorers.
